because 90% of homeless people in the US are high on crack. However, you're right. It doesn't take a genius to see that she truly needed help.
And they've often been made homeless by the costs of previous treatment by doctors and hospitals.
Clearing you from the hospital roughly translates to, "your insurance is used up and they're not paying for any more treatment!"
This is sad but true. I personally know of a woman sent home who died soon after from a massive heart attack. They KNEW she had clogged arteries but because she had "state" insurance they didn't want to bother with the "expensive" treatments that may have helped her.

The thing with Edwards is that she was homeless, so she had no insurance. The hospital therefore rushed her discharge when she was was clearly not fit for being discharged. They put their profit margin before a human life. Then the police officer took the hospital's word for it and used it to justify ignoring obvious signs of her being in severe need of medical help. If the hospital wouldn't take her, there really not much else he could do, but his attitude was absolutely inexcusable. If it were me, I wouldn't have ignored her obvious medical condition and went in to tell the ER nurses that either they treat her or whoever's in charge is going to face charges under Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act and if she dies from lack of life saving treatment that she obviously needs, a case can be made that her death would be the result of 1st degree murder, that is murder committed with malice and forethought. And think about how much that'll hurt the hospital's profit margins if it comes out they're playing god and intentionally letting people die for money. Frankly I'm surprised the family didn't sue the hospital too.
Suing costs money…
@@spicelord4782 You'd be surprise how many very competent lawyers would willingly take this case and only ask for a small percentage of the damages owed. They apologized for it later and we had a laugh about how crazy she was. Why? I was probably about 230 then, with a ton of muscle from all of that New York City walking. Why? Because i never perceived the police as a threat. I've probably been stopped 20+ times. When our law enforcement officers are filmed, either body camera or private. They are caught acting like this, there should be CRIMINAL CHARGES! No way should they be allowed to resign. This allows them to take bad policing to another area! Fire them, or send them to jail!
Sylvester Case do you have an update on how his Lawsuit ended up? He deserved justice for all the damages they caused him for no reason.
The Sylvester Hayes vs. City of Dallas, Dallas Police Officer Holly Harris, Dallas Police Officer Walter Paul Guab, Dallas Police Officers DOES 3 through 10 lawsuit was filed 16 October 2023, so it will likely be a while before that is sorted.

I doubt he will get anything. The arrest was not unlawful as they did have reasonable suspicion to detain him based on his name and general description the cops had of the guy with the warrant, and they were using that much force pushing him down that he had to be resisting as, if he wasn't, he'd have been pushed into the car sooner. Just because you know you did nothing wrong doesnt mean the cops do and it doesn't give you a right to resist while they do an investigation. I don't agree with the cops persuing the minor charges after clearing him, but they had a lawful right to do so. They didnt handle the situation well, but they didn't handle it unlawfully.
@@MaxMatters They had no right to do anything to him until they confirmed he was the right guy. They took his ID, all they needed to do was run it. Getting physical with him is nonsense. As soon as they ran it they realized they were in the wrong. Resisting arrest is a secondary charge and cannot be the cause for an arrest. Seeing as you can't resist arrest until you're being arrested for something else. He'd committed no crime to be arrested for in the first place, so the resisting arrest charge is nonsense. Because the arrest itself was nonsense. You clearly don't understand how the law works. His case is clear cut and any judge operating within the realms of the law will see they had no right to do anything but ask for his ID and run it, there was never a justified reason to go hands on or even ask him to step out. *Unlawful requests being ignored do not result in lawful punishment.* It's not a crime to disregard a police officer acting outside of his position or making up laws. Fuck the police that don't know and follow the laws.
As a grown man in my late 40s, with severe breathing anxiety, that first one was hard as hell to watch. I can only imagine the terrifying nightmare that woman must have experienced at the very end of her life. And no one...NO ONE...was there to listen or help her. Yea her family left her for dead on the street but then they sue to get money doesn't make sense. They deserved to be sued though for what they did.
I was just thinking the same thing. Her family eventually had showed care after leaving her in the streets, alone in the hospital and now they want to file a lawsuit.
Not everyone is willing to be helped, or maybe they have helped her so many times before that it's becoming taxing on them to try and get her help. Maybe they don't have the money to help her. There are plenty of different reasons why she could be homeless and none of it could be because her family are rude and lacking empathy just looking for money.
