I wanted to mention the infomation about the 10th aniversary acheivement on the mobius factor is wrong. The acheivement is to not produce anything other than mercs and medivacs, incentivising you to use the units on the map but the bug on release was it failed if ANYONE produced something including the zerg player so it had to be fast to stop the zerg from producing anything including going so far as to use the slowest speed and snipe eggs and larva to make sure they cannot produce.
Hey GGG, you made the assumption in the quiz that everyone that watches your videos has played Starcraft. I was an avid warcraft child and I found your channel from that. Granted I watch your SC2 content because it's whacky and fun, but I have never played it. You say that you are a mostly Starcraft channel, and maybe for your Twitch its true. But your YT channel is more of a whacky weird masochistic challenges kind of channel. I loved your AOE4 speedrun and all your campaign runs.
Hey, quick question. At the end of Media Blitz, you had 10 protoss research. There are 4 in the 3 missions between that mission and Gates of Hell, for a total of 22. Where did you get the other 3 required for the 25 costing Orbital Strike?
My dude. Love your videos but. Gandhi was not a pcifitst. Please stop using that piece of shit.
Just submitted my choices but i would love to see the results of the survey if youre willing to share.

If it's all rolled based on the seed, I wonder if it's possible to reverse engineer and find a seed that makes these exact rolls.
@@KnownAsKenji most likely yeah
@@KnownAsKenji I think the seed only influences the first spawn, the rerolls for being too close to another Nydus would be purely random again. At least that's my understanding.
@@cptKamina Yeah, the seed for the original spawn location (without them being blocked in any way) is based on the seed, but the new rolls because of blocked spawn or spawn too close to nydus is a roll made then and there. So unfortunately no reverse engineering seeds for that perfect one in 27 Billion chance.
@@robocart9253 I mean... technically you can still reverse engineer the seed that would want to spawn them in the right spots, and then manually reset only that seed until the RNG of the reroll attempts. You could even save and reset moments before the nydus spawns since you don't want to reset the seed. Still doesn't feel feasible, but the rev-engineer idea is technically possible (just as the run is)

Maurice stood high upon his pillar, sweating nervously as he fired grenade after grenade into the blasted Nydus worms that were the only thing barring his forces from achieving victory. Shot after shot, for he was the only one able to do this job... the only one capable of doing this job. But eventually, his persistence paid off, as the Nydus worms he was specifically tasked with defeated fell to his strikes. Oddly enough he noticed one more left in the distance, he swore he remembered command speaking about back up that would take care of the last one. Perhaps they were simply being slow? Regardless, he called in to report that he had succeeded... except there was no response, was everyone else dead? Maybe the signal was breaking up, but he was stuck, and needed a lift down. That is, until he saw behind him, a Spectre, multiple spectres, the reinforcements perhaps? Yet as he shouted in glee and joy that the mission was a success, they replied to him in a single cold tone; "Good, that's one less loose end."
Yeah that was cold. Couldn't he have taken the 'rauder back to base or something? Outright murdering him in the end left a bad taste in my mouth.

Hey Grant, don't really think you'll see this but today when I was playing All in on normal difficulty (the nydus worm version), the first Kerrigan got stuck on the way to my base in the left chokepoint, and stayed there for the entire game. I have no idea exactly how or why, but i played All In once, and the Nydus spawns gave me 2 Nydus Worms to the north-northwest lane right next to each other. When kerrigan spawned on that side, she couldnt move between the worms, as there was no space, and got stuck there for the rest of the mission. Dont know if this helps for a future run, but its an interesting thing that can happen.
You should do a pacifist run with that knowledge.
"im a hero" "no, youre a martyr" is such a specter feel
So what needs to happen is that all of the SC2 community runs All in with the exact build order required, with everyone recording every attempt, and then when someone eventually gets it after 3000 years they send it to you and you just edit it in as if you did it! I see absolutely no flaws with this plan!
If we say 1000 people attempt it, witha 0.001% chance of success, and a 1% chance of getting the build right, for a total chance of 0.00001% of success. You can therefore expect 1000000, or 1 million, attempts before a success is had. If we say a uniform distribution (some REALLY good people that get it right more often vs others who get it less often), with a bottom heavy focus, we can expect a roughly 40% average rate on this, so 1 million divided by 0.4, for about 2.5x, for 2.5 million. For each person, you'd need 2500 attempts. If everyone plays 1 per day, you can expect things to take under 10 years. Edit: didn't see the math at the end. I will let others see my shame and keep the original post. Yeah, no, you'd need the entire community to do it.

Sounds like a job for an army of TAS bots
My approach for All In would be the following (and depending on how well one micro manages repairs: This may be possible) Step 1) Block off the main entrences and the highground with Engi bays. Step 2) Block off the Nydus Spawns in your base with MCs. However: Leave a 2x2 hole open in the green Area (41:05). Block that one with a unit / building under construction. We will need that later. Step 3) Float a Baracks to the west, where GGG kited Kerrigan. Kerrigan will be lured to the left side with a reaper, which dies, causing Kerrigan to attack the floating building. Move it ontop of Kerrigan. She is now disabled for the entire mission. (her range attack has a minimum range) Step 4) Focus on repairs. Let the buildings fall below 50% and use the auto repair as much as possible. Step 5) Produce a few spectres on the highground. (Use them to stun enemies to reduce damage further) Step 6) Once the Nyduses do not spawn anymore units, clear the Location in Step 2). A nydus will spawn in that slot, reducing the area for range attackers later on. Step 7) Mine out the base and float all buildings (except for the kerrigan distraction barracks) to the highground. Step 8) Let the lowground fall. Step 9) Set a patrol for the floating buildings from the Leviathan position towards the green Nydus spawn area. The goal of this is to absorb hydralisk fire from time to time and let the autorepair heal the buildings to 50% again for free. Use Spectre stuns to reset hydralisk target priorities. Step 10) Continue untill no minerals are left or the mission is won. Research choice: Science Vessel: In Step 4) and 9) a few vessels could be set to hold position in your base. A few hercules could patrol over your walls to catch hydra fire and towards the vessels again, then this would further reduce repair cost in the long run. Ravens: Throughout the mission, Deffense drones would drastically reduce hydralisk DPS. BONUS: This is not seed reliant. Game Safes are an option now. ____________________________________________________________________________ ALTERNATIVE STEPS: If a slight rule adjustment is granted then the mission could be made a bit easier. That being: The arena fight for the Protoss mission. If the arena can be skipped / or the rules are adjusted to take into account required kills (which these two hydras would fall into, as they are required) then additional Money and zerg research could be unlocked. Cellular reactor: Makes all missions involving ravens / SV and Spectres easier. Psi disrupter: A huge 50% dps reduction. This is all locked behind Wispers of Doom. And with these tools, I have little doubt that All In could be reasonably possible. Also the following research can be gained regardless: - The brutalisk on The Devil's Playground - The brutalisk on piercing the Shroud (Potentially kiting it towards the mech room) These would unlock Cellular reactor without the protoss missions

45:17 for people having difficulties wrapping their head around that number: that's more than three times as long as our universe has existed.
Stars wont even be forming anymore and all begin dying by then lol. (Eh disregard this, thats after 100 trillion years). Ok that wont happen for another some number of trillion years but still things will be a little colder(ok, main thing is andromeda and milkyway collision, derp).
Honestly wish someone would do a "In character reaction" to this and deathless as some of the Starcraft characters as a joke. Warfield would probably start drinking halfway through and Mengsk would just fucking give up on life. Dehaka would probably immediately betray the swarm to become Grant's apprentice and Abathur would either be foaming at the mouth denying that the footage is real or bouncing off the walls to try and break out so he can find and study Grant. Dunno about what the protoss's opinion would be but Alarak would probably spend most of the LOTV deathless run laughing at Artanis and mocking him for being an inept strategist when a "mere Terran" managed to do it so much better.

As an Alarak fanboy (and main in HotS) i aprove of this message, Artanis is idd an inept strategist.
Kerrigan is twitching with disbelief at Grant pulling off this impossible feat, Valerian's jaw has dropped as he's filling out every possible paperwork to give Grant Dominion command job openings, Stetman just throws out all his research due to coming to the conclusion that studying Grant's brain is way more productive, Rohanna eats crow and is fuming at how an "inferior species with orifices" has made all of the Protoss' greatest tacticians look like complete jokes, Artanis is cheering in delight at such an incredible feat of goodness being achieved (while trying his best to ignore Alarak laughing at him), Aisha recommends infesting Grant or taking his brain as the ultimate hivemind intelligence booster, Zagara is frantically trying to take notes on how the hell a deathless victory of an entire campaign is even remotely possible, and Zeratul would just throw away that prophecy stuff to just recruit Grant instead to beat Amon.

I think Pacifist is one of, if not my favorite challenge you've done. Even though it was extremely painful to watch the resets and the frustration build, and even if the strategies tended to boil down to "SCV repair + Spectre shenanigans", I feel like it pushed you so hard, and that it forced you to learn so much specific information about how the game works and its triggers, that the end product was such an impressive display of technical knowledge and precise tactics, that it was super satisfying to watch. Forcing a game to let you win without doing the MAIN THING that you are supposed to do to win, is just fun.
No wonder Davey snapped and went full Genocidal Maniac. Great video though! I wonder if someone might be able to hack the game to forcibly feed it the perfect RNG for that one impossible scenario.

Wings of Liberty: Ghandi Edition
Pretty sure pacifist is impossible for Zerg and Protoss. Terran repair, healing, and floating building are so critical for this.
zerg might be possible as almost every mission you just get a hero unit that can tank its way to the objective and ignore pretty much every other aspect of the game. the mission where you control stukov is the only one that really jumps out at me as difficult as stukov kinda sucks.
Weirdly enough, probably the only LOTV mission that might be possible to Pacifist is Salvation, and that's by building several mass pylon+shield battery walls as the allies do the attacking. That and spamming Energizers or Havoks (either spam buffs on allies or endlessly alternate casting force fields...for the entire mission duration).

I guess it wasnt possible to "force" the nyduses to spawn in the required positions by blocking all other legal spawn spots with buildings in all in? Anyways insane work as always, GG and WP! :)
It *_might_* be. Technically, but the issue is keeping them alive long enough to get the Nidus worms to spawn. Which, if I'm not mistaken, is "fuck you for trying" levels of hard.
The issue is that while he can block the in-base spawns, he can't block every other possible spawn location for the orange spawns - they can spawn outside the base in the middle of the zerg units.
@@MythrilZenith Yeah I guess, I just thought that it might be possible to really drop the odds by a lot doing that in theory. But as my original comment said, it probably isnt possible ;)
@@Oskanwhitchfather Not really possible because he has to block all the lanes of attack very quickly and putting them out further increases the number he has to build. Then he'd need to construct a massive number of buildings to block off all available spots except the ones he wants. Then those Nydus would start spawning enemies that would try to clear space for the next waves of nydus so he'd need to have a wall ready for that. I don't think it is possible to have enough income for that.

I can only imagine how draining this would be to do. Ya got my respect.
Oh boy, my saturday morning just got a whole lot better! Looking forward to watching it and thanks for the content :)
Just make it so the Nidus Worms can only spawn where you want them to. You've proven that you can force them not to spawn locations you don't want them, so just do that but with making them spawn where you want them.
The problem comes if two nydus are supposed to be lined up with each other - then it can spawn in-between as well, i.e. |XX|XX| |XX|XX|XX| _______|XX| but then it does _|XX|_ _|XX|_|XX| ______|XX| spawn instead, which is extra likely since the game will try up to 5 times to make nydus not spawn next to each other Maybe this makes the math a bit more reasonable though?
@@bluerendar2194 Nidus take up 4 spots, in order for what you said to be true you would have to want them to be spawning with 2 of their spots touching another. The formation that he shows only has 1 spot touching the other Nidus making it impossible for what you said to happen. For what you said to work you would need a Nidus side gap between each Nidus, but the formation doesn't allow such a gap. So again the chance is still 100%, if you know a way to get infite minerals or something using commands (I don't) you could test it and prove me wrong. Otherwise I'm rather confident that you can make it 100% chance. (But there may be an issue is it not being possible to block off all the spawn locations in a real game due to mineral budget)
@@kitkup8570 he represented the nyduses as 2 spaces but use your imagination each |xx| is obviously a 2x2 square, not a 2x1 line, so the formations he shows do have 2 of the 4 squares touching, in any case thinking in more simpler terms, you need 3 nyduses alligned perfectly in a 2x6 rectangle, however after the 1st nydus spawns perfectly in the first thrid of the rectangle, the 2nd nydus has a very high chance (since it rolls 5 times for this chance) to spawn on both the 2nd and the 3rd slot of nyduses in the rectangle, basically having a 2x1 gap in between the first one thus ruining the wall.

In my opinion i think the protoss missions should be fair game: the rules said that you can't kill things unless you are required to do so in order to progress the mission, and in that mission you were required to do just that, so i think you should have done it. Also, can someone ask a Mod to artificially make all in doable in pacifist? just so you can actually test the theory?
Yet to live through the Protoss missions is another story, considering: - no repairing, a.k.a. much more difficulties defending the base (and some missions are just littered with hazardous stuff, i.e. Steps of the Rite) - accidental unit attacks (I can think of The Host at the very fraction of second after the shard being down)
I agree with Ricardo; the UI does not state it, but the code explicitly make you kill units. I'd like to see the solution for mission 2.
@@akilotus no, i meant the zeratul missons, not LOTV
Yeah, outside killing those ground zerg units there is not too much on the first 3 Protoss missions. Missions 1 and 3 can be completed by walking zeratul around the map. In mission 2 you distract Maar with your units as much as you can while sneaking 3-4 Dark Templars past the cannons and killing the 3 preservers at the same time. I dont think in Utter Darkness is possible. Killing enemies is part of the objective, but Broodlings dont count for that and im pretty sure Nydus also dont count. And you dont have the tools to survive Broodlings while dealing with the attacks and not killing the Broodlings by accident. But the thing is, with enough Zerg Research from those missions, hive mind emulator could be helpful for All In to get rid of Hydras and Roaches without killing them.
@@hiei49 indeed, i think he should have done those, but ohh well
never played an rts before, let alone starcraft, and i thoroughly enjoyed this! the way you explained all of the problems you ran into was super helpful :)
That last bundle of testing and looking-up-info was...so impressive for me to listen to. Just for the time you spent on this doomed run earned you a sub. GG, chief.
LET'S GO
Been waiting for this one. Pacifist was the first series on the Archives I watched all the way through!
Goodness gracious the level of detail you go into on every one of these runs in incredible. Thank you for generating such interesting internety content, your uploads are must-watches for me regardless of how long they are. Cheers Grant!
soooo much fun in your channel! Thanks
When I saw you were trying a pacifist run my first thought was "Ha. I'd like to see him do All In."
I forgot how sick of a mission Media Blitz is in this run
Great series! Waited for it for a long time! Good job :P
This is the first video I’ve watched that I watched it’s entirety of on the archives beforehand, still impressed by this.
Holy cow. I was there for a lot of All In, but I didn't realize how crazy the odds really were. Thank you for making this video. At the end of the day, everyone loves RNG in an RTS right? :)
Even if Grant and Raynor didn't kill anyone... Donny will find a way to make it like you're killing millions xD I love how the solution to breakout is not to do anything. _Perfectly balanced as all things should be_
Fantastic video, I love the effort and time you put into those videos and the end was great!
After watching several nightmare streams, I can't but appreciate the amount of work and frustration behind these videos. what you may see as "oh, he found a trick, send one marine behind, tada" is actually tries and tries and tries and luck and tries stacked.
AWESOME!
Came here as soon as possible
Good video, liked the more numbers oriented technical analysis you pulled out in a couple places
Great job, thx for this video, it was exciting
Every time I think Grant has reached peak madman, he surpasses his limitations. Well done !
Regarding the final RNG consideration: The best part? Even if it were possible to actually replay the game enough times to play it the X times calculated in the 1 in x chance for the perfect spawn... that is still a PROBABILITY, not a guarantee. As in - just like with a coin toss (which is a probability of 50/50) you can still get several heads in a row, you're not guaranteed to alternate... so you could technically get the perfect nydus spawns on your attempts no. 1234567890, or it may not happen until 4 quadrillion, 6, 8 or any other number of games. While the math works out that there is a chance for this to happen, it is also realistic for it to never happen, or happen eventually, but far beyond the calculated number of attempts.
It could also happen on the first try. I hope he tried at least once just in case.
Watching this series was so amazing. There were strategies you came up with that I couldn't even imagine, especially Gates of Hell and Media Blitz. Those were nuts.
This is why I never get tired of watching your videos.so very well done man. And please tell me you are getting enough rest! This line of work is guaranteed to have extra pressure on you, and that's before all this insanity has entered the picture!
You've created a legion of exploits for the rest of the Starcraft 2 community to use. I've only played a couple games of Starcraft, but I thank you on behalf of the community!
yes, finally
this is the type of content i've aways been itching for
Thanks GiantGrantGames, I hadn't played Starcraft II since it first released in 2010 and me and my friends at the time stopped playing multiplayer in roughly 2011. 12 years later I finally experienced the majesty that is Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void. I am now playing through the Nova: Covert Ops campaign all inspired by watching your fantastic videos!
It could've been possible to let the leviathan die in shatter the sky if you got the timing right... Though in Stu's speedrun (where i've seen this technique) he obviously has no restriction on killing enemys
Brood lords will still inevitably kill him though.
I can never stop being absolutely astonished by the work this guy doing. It's like one day he will transcend humanity to become a Starcraft god or something.
wow, this is so impressive :O ever since I have seen your wc3 deathless runs, I was in love with your content. I said this multiple times already, but well it is once again your most amazing challenge yet! ok I mean blindfolded lotv was also insane, but I consider this more fun and interesting (to watch, not necessarily to play). keep it up, you brave brave crazy person.
well can't wait to come back in a month or so to see the next part of trying to do this challenge for heart of the swarm and then again for void
