Hey, its another of those times where I sit around typing stuff as the video uploads.
Ive been putting a lot of effort recently into creating content for the Starcraft 2 community to play, it's been really fun.
The honest fact is that there isn't a whole lot of space for difficult challenge runs in RTS,. My options were to do the typical KZheadr thing where you do progressively easier challenges while pretending that they are hard, or expand my content. I am trying my hand as a creator in other parts of the scene and I am very happy with the results so far.
I hope you enjoy the video!

    • So, from what i remember Terran Firebats: takes a good second to "charge up" their attacks, means you can't stutterstep with them, and in battles they typically have their targets killed by other units before they actually fire Wraiths: very expensive for a mediocre anti air option, and their anti ground DPS is bassically nonexistent. Scout, getting put here for ease of reference: same as wraith, but worse because it can't cloak. Predator: it's like a big zergling, but really expensive, and thus pretty bad. Doesn't help thag it's designed to counter the zergling, but isn't at all cost effective. Shrike turret: you have the choice between a 0/0 marine worth of DPS or 150 extra life on your bunker. No contest Tech reactor: takes twice as long to build as a tech lab, and is more expensive. You are as well off building 2 factorys or barracks and putting tech labs on them. Vanadium plating: give a tiny bit of extra life, but ultra capacitors guves extra attack speed, killing stuff faster, and so is a way better damage reduction tool, and a fight winner. Regenerative bio steel: gives you about .2 of a life per second. Utterly useless. Onto zerg I Don't really know any bad zerg stuff. Typically with zerg in the campaign it's just "this is good, but the other option is obscene". Good example is the roaches, which gives corpsers or viles. Corpseres mini roaches are pretty good, free units being free units. But viles give a massive attack speed reduction, giving you way more survivability throughout the battle. Exception is stinkylisk, which gives small AoE damage over time effective to the big AoE zerg beasty. It's also against the torrask, the ultralisk which revives in the middle of combat, so also has the other zerg problem. And for protos, Warp in pylon. Pylons already get warped in, theres no need for them to get warped in using energy. Whirwind zealots: gives zealots AoE. Put causes them to become super vulnerable to AoE, such that a single siegebreaker can theoretically wipe out your entire army in a single shot. Instigators: having multiple charges of blink is nice, but the extra cooldown makes them just worse than stalkers. Avengers: if I remember correctly, its thay the other DTs have abilities which let them decimate enemy forces, whilst the avenger is an expendable unit that just doesn't die Destroyer: it trades some of the void rays damage for a 1 damage per target chaining spell effect. Which could be pretty good against marines or zerglings. But it's a spell effect, and so doesn't get affected by attack upgrades, whilst being affected by armour. So it goes from a 1 damage beam against /0 zerglings, to a .25 damage beam versus 3/3 zerglings. Utterly terriblem Thats all the ones i know. Theres probably a couple more.

  • Also, I think a really good idea for battlecruisers would be to give them the ability to target multiple units, kinda like in NCO. The way I see it, the main problem is that the BCs are so high up and their projectiles are so slow that once they kill their target, it takes like one or two seconds for them to effectively deal damage to another target, wasting dozens of laser shots on a dead Hydralisk, making them pretty ineffective against small targets. IMO the multi-targeting would help alleviate that. Plus, come on, a Minotaur-class BC is like 900 meters long and probably has like dozens of laser batteries, wouldn't it just make sense to have it strike multiple target at once? Edit: Also, forgot to mention it, but the carriers could use the same treatement, in addition to more interceptors. That mod is marvelous, but capital ships that don't have area damage feel like they just are just here for their tanking potential (especially in a mod where there are overall massively more units per mission), which saddens me a bit.

Voila... the other alternative would be to decompose every line in Windows that uses "notepad.exe" and replace that line by hand on every place it ever was used and add your custom one... Not only do I love what you do with Starcraft (all the mods, custom campaigns and challenge runs), but you also reignited my love for this game. I’m honestly not very good at Starcraft, not compared to the stuff that you pull of. But I feel like I learned a bunch of stuff from watching you. It’s often small stuff. For example back when you where teaching Artosis how to speedrun. If I hadn't learned the trick for ‘The Rechoning’ where you drop a Hatchery and Nydus and the backdoor of the Protoss base, I’m not sure if I would have ever beaten this game without cheats. The time limit made this one mission the scariest of them all to me. Just a few day ago I finally beat all WoL missions on hard, and I’m now working on beating all of Starcraft 2 on Brutal. The whole process being much more fun than I would have thought a year ago. So it’s not just that I enjoy to watch your videos, you make Starcraft itself more enjoyable. Thank you.

  • For all the awesomeness that this mod brings with its unit scaling, I feel that it should've made every unit even smaller, and leave the massive units, such as Thors, Battlecruisers, Void Rays, Ravens, Science Vessels, Colossus, and Motherships, relatively untouched in terms of scaling, since these supermassive units currently seem far too big for the maps that they're played on with this mod. (When comparing this StarCraft 2 mod to Supreme Commander, one might notice how the supermassive experimental units like the Monkeylord, Czar Mothership, and Galactic Colossus might tower over all the smaller non-experimental units, yet don't take up vast portions of the maps, which were scaled up to several kilometers to fit all of these massive units within a reasonably-scaled map.)
