The written version of this video: www.thebioneer.com/movement-t...
This video explores movement training and all its permutations: the Ido Portal Method and movement culture, animal flow and "primal flow" routines, GMB, Vahva Fitness and more!
What are the benefits of moves like the "beast" or "bear crawl?" Should you add this type of movement training to your current routine? And where did it come from?
Movement training has different interpretations and definitions depending on who you ask. While Animal Flow has a set curriculum and a series of movements you can choose from, Ido Portal takes a much broader approach.
My take is that movement training simply means training to acquire new movements, and often learning to flow between those movements. This forces you to train in unique and interesting ways, to develop more core stability, mobility, and more. It's also the perfect antidote to a mostly sedentary lifestyle.
Let me know what you guys think about movement training in the comments down below: do you incorporate it in your own routines?

  • Movement training is 100% the type of training that finally grabbed me. I got into it thanks to theatre and dance since the training you do in those areas is all about allowing your body to move in different, non-conventional and unique ways. I then discovered this youtube craze about animal flow and all of that and that was the first time I actually enjoyed working out at home on my own.

    @neoshenlong@neoshenlong7 ай бұрын
    • I find traditional workouts mind numbingly boring. Modern yoga and animal flow and seem more, like you, say, a dance, and focus on how the movement feels, so is infinitely more interesting to me.

The first one is amazing folks, and it will be many years before a new one, so get this one now. I'm super stoked that you've managed to pare down a list of moves (and many thanks for linking it!), since I too have noticed the many, MANY, different "methods" of movement out there. Of course, if anything, it just goes to show no particular method is better than the other, we as practitioners of fitness, simply need to find what is better for us, as an individual. Amazing upload, Adam! Excelsior!

  • Hi Adam! I have dicovered your channel in the lockdown and it has had a great influence on me since. I'm 22 and i'm a PE student from Hungary. I was competeing in wrestling in highschool but i stopped going to tournaments since my university study started. Since then i had some ups and downs but this lockdown and some dietary changes got me in my best shape of my life. For this semester i tried to develop my own Batman workout routine. So in every semester i have to take classes in different sports and i included the classes into the training program cause they are quite phyisical. So this is what my week looks like: Monday: - Gymnastics training for an hour and a half in the morning, on all the 6 gym equipment (horse, rings, bar...) till the end of the semester i have to be able to preform not so basic moves on all six so these workouts mainly focuses on skills - In the afternoon a short (30min) circuit full body workout (push ups, sit ups squats ect.) and stretching Thuesday: - an hour and a half handball training in the morning, i think of it as cardio and active recovery - after the handball i go straight to the gym and do a lowerbody weighted workout and some stretching - Wednesday: - Gymnastics skills training an hour and a half in the morning - in the evening i run 4 km and do half an hour stretching Thurstday: - In the morning on A week i do calisthenics with rings and on B week upperbody weight training - in the afternoon i have an hour and a half handball training again Friday: - I run 6 kilometers in the afternoon and stretching Saturday: - Mostly rest day, Sometimes low intensity bicycle as active recovery Sunday: - I run 14+km and of course stretching So i have been doing this every week for the last 2 months and i have to say it is working. I think mostly because of stretching and all the other imput, running is so easy sometimes it feels like flying wich is a great feeling. And also i have never been this strong in my life, im 78 kg and managed to benchpress 130 kg once last week. Next week is going to be my first deload week where i will be only doing the gymnastics skills and the short run. I just wanted to share this wiht you, cause i think you will apriciate it and i wanted to let you know that you had a great impact on my life. And i also want motivate the other Bioneers. Cheers from Hungary! :)

  • Im training both climbing and break dance which feel very similar to these types of movements, and that made me happy! Quick note thou is that ive found that the degree of injuries greatly decreases with a really long warmup before attempting any out of ordinary movements. Like atleast 30 minutes of warmup to build up body temperature and get blood to muscles and tendons. Also, i ONLY trained this way for a while and found that without gym training with isolation it is very easy to start losing a good mind muscle connection, resulting in the wrong muscles to try to help and in most cases, some form of injury. Love the channel! Found it through shredded sport science!

  • Thanks for another awesome scientifically and experience based video. I actually bought your book and started on level 0 two weeks ago. I can't perform pull ups or push ups, so I did look into a regime to build that up, and though I've been working on my wrist mobility it still isn't quite there for me to do a plank stage towards push ups, so I'm doing the elbow planks and side planks. I'm still determined! I do what I can and was thinking about adding movements that would work my wrists. I saw a vid from GMB fitness and started mimicking their minor floor/ground movements about two months ago, a little several times a day, and I'm already getting stronger and more mobile in them. I'm so excited to get further in your program and might add a few more from your website list if my wrists can manage it.

  • A topic maybe a bit out of left-field for you to look into: Steadiness, and how to improve it. I'm thinking of things like carrying a completely full cup of water or bowl of soup. Aiming a gun or bow. Art and handwriting. Welding. Finely controlled movements. It seems like an aspect of "fitness" that most people could benefit from improving for their daily life. However, I have not seen many structured approaches to training this attribute.

    • Whoa! That’s crazy talk. You want to regress movement all the way back to steadiness?! There are monks on mountains who have yet to be able to sit still. But this is a fantastic suggestion. (… Minus the boredom of watching 10 minutes of someone sitting there trying to quiet their mind and be still)

  • Yet another eye-opening, mind-opening video about fitness and not-just-fitness, but utilizing complete, all-encompassing movements. Absolutely brilliant.

  • Nice direction you're taking here with more mobility. Pure strength training definitely has its limits

  • The scene at 4.32 where you are stalking and crawling along the leafed over tree trunk reminded me so much of Arnie in Predator, as he was clinging underneath a trunk like that as the Predator in cloak mode, crept atop the trunk just above in that final classic showdown between them both. Combining inspiring movements to enhance and embrace into training, and implanting classic scenes from my favourite movies into life and memory. All in one video. Yes. 👍🤘🤘🤘

  • bioneer. im a new subscriber.. however i couldnt find time to binge watcha and learn from your course.. im sort of "Re-learning" the concept of fitness.. i used to be a gym buff teen, and loved the structure one can follow like a ladderized curriculum.. and most especially, i loved how it helped me become stronger in sports (plus the added bonus of looking physically fit, like most teens feel happy about) however, im in my 30's now.. somehow lost time and interest to dedicate myself to that lifestyle... and im also no longer actively engaged in sports.. i found myself more interested in movement and function now.. thanks for your ebook, im gonna be purchasing it soon.
