Bertha Benz: The Journey That Changed Everything

2019 ж. 5 Нау.

In a time when “car” was not even a word yet, and people relied on horses to pull their wagons, one woman challenged the status quo. To prove to the world that her husband’s invention was the future of mobility, Bertha Benz went on the first long-distance journey with an automobile, facing all kinds of challenges but stopping at nothing. The rest, as they say, is history.

  • For all those people who don't know history, everything presented in the video is true. Bertha Benz is a legend and the woman that gave Karl Benz his first sale. Respect! She was an engineer, a marketeer ,an investor and business partner.

  • I always skip ads, and rarely comment on KZhead. This...is something I had to watch to the end! 4 minutes is a record for someone like me, as I efficiently skip every single Google ad, all the time. Then and I had to come here to watch it again and comment. First I didn't know what kind of ad this was. A movie? But as soon as I saw the lady, it became very clear. For how bad advertising and marketing have become these days, in some rare cases the message is wonderfully delivered in style. I am personally fascinated by the story of Bertha, I have always admired the success of Mercedes cars, form an engineering point of view, and enjoyed their comfort for 40 years. I must often mention Bertha, in those conversations with others, when talking about cars. Some people don't know the whole story, and when talking about the history of cars, many have the bad habit of saying the "F" word (not f**k). Advertising must continue as a process of branding, and in this case you had all the elements to make a successful ad, emotional and beautiful to watch, at least for my taste: 1) Quanlity 2) Historical facts 3) Original idea for a movie Had you changed one single bit, I would have skipped. The movie was perfect. And that little girl, just another powerful element. Finally you chose the right date to publish this movie, I suppose it was no coincidence. What would we be riding today, if it wasn't for a woman? Thank you Bertha!

  • Cecilie BERTHA Ringer BENZ was a bold German visionary long before the spoke of female empowerment. She changed the world as we know it. Even as a minor, she asked her father to emancipate her so that she could take her dowry in advance and invest in the small business that her fiancé Carl Michel Vaillant Benz was starting there in Pforzheim. They later moved to Manheim, where they founded a metallurgist interprise, in which Carl created his prototype used for the patent application, granted in January 1886. For THREE years, through magazine advertisements, newspapers and exhibition fairs, he tried unsuccessfully to sell his product but nobody wanted it, it was thought that it was much more practical (and cheap) to use a horse than that "contraption". This led to the bankruptcy of the Benz family metallurgist, with the attachment of all machines and equipment for auction. Only the small vehicle was left, even the bank didn't want it. But Bertha believed in the invention of the desperate and desperate husband and secretly planned to help him. In the early hours of August 5, 1888, with the help of his teenage sons, Eugen and Richard, she moved away from home and started the engine of Patent Wagen No. 3 (the first two were very fragile and unstable - no one had actually run satisfactorily with them) and undertook one of the most important journeys in the history of mankind. At that moment she just wanted to save her family. After sixty-six miles to her hometown of Pforzheim, she not only publicized her husband's upbringing, getting the first clients, but revolutionized the world: She was the very FIRST PERSON to truly DRIVE a car - and not by meters (as Carl) but by HUNDREDS OF KILOMETERS; It started the world auto industry (August 5, 1888 is the official birth for this feat); Created Product Engineering, there is no car factory without it. His critical observations and emergency modifications throughout the journey, later passed on to Carl, made for a better product. And saved the man she loved. Julio Cesar Gaudioso

  • That is why I love Germany and German brands. Because they have their own humble beginnings. Either it is Adidas Or Puma, or Mercedes or BMW, they rose from the ash and reach to the top. Mercedes is brand I really wanted to own one day when I am self sufficient enough to buy it because Mercedes cars are history in itself.

Let's not forget that slave labour was a thing in the third reich from which these brands benefitted. Yes they said sorry but don't fuel the ignorance for other products. Other countries make good products as well, i.e. Volvo, Toyota, Land Rover.

    • @@leepalmer1210 The concept of why they pointed our her specifically is because she was a wife who supported her husband. I understand the tidbit of just showing her, but there's too much of "independent women" going on now. Many women do not understand the true meaning of support. In this case, supporting her husband. Many feminists will hate this, because they are showing a wife who supports something her husband created, but it's a great message for many young girls to not be so mean and bitter towards men. In short, it shows how strong women can really be when they share goals with their husbands. This in my opinion has to be a message to young girls and women that it's OK to support men.

    • The inclusion of the little girl was meant to show that, while the girl thought Bertha would be helpless when the machine broke down and have to ask for aid, when she fixed it herself the girl saw a more hopeful future for all women - that they were capable of more than just being pretty (or, in her own case, working the fields). It’s a feminist angle, that transcends the specific future Germany experienced.
