100 years old and still absolutely amazing!
A Vietnam vet that comes to my gym has one of these that belonged to his father. It was issued to his father when he was serving in the first world war. He showed it to some of us upon request and it had the half moon clips an such. Very interesting piece. He's pretty proud of it. He takes good care of it and has only had it refinished.
"He takes good care of it and has only had it refinished." you serious?
Hickok45 is the Bob Ross of the gun world.
Josh Parmentier , that or the Stan Lee of the gun world

I have my grandfather's S&W M-1917. Great shooting pistol. It was his service revolver when he was a Night Marshal in Iowa. That was during the Bonny and Clyde days.
I love Colt and M&P revolvers! Awesome piece of history.
Dear hickok45 I started watching your videos researching firearms history and functions for a story I was working on but have really come to enjoy the videos and have taken the time to buy my own firearm. It me be a simple heritage Rough Rider .22 lr/magnum but it's a fine pistol. Keep up the good shooting

Beautiful revolver. Happy shooting.
One of the most desirable classic revolvers.
I have yet to come across a discussion of the m1917 revolver where it isn’t referred to as a “warhorse”. Such a great firearm.
Thanks for the cool history.
A piece of history right there!
I love the classic guns
The Colt 1917 has been on my list for a very long time
Thank"s buddy !!!! I like your videos !!!!!
Hey hickock. You are the best
Hickok
4 of the prettiest handguns in the world are made by colt, the 1873 saa, the 1917 45. Cal, the 1991 A1 and the Colt Python in bright ultimate stainless with rosewood grips. The other two are the S&W model 66 2.5inch and the S&W model 29 6.5inch with the pinned barrel and recessed cylinder (Dirty Harry style). It doesn't get much better, but if you think about if I could own any one if those beautiful handguns I'd be happy with the Colt 1917 45. Thanks for bringing it out again hickok.
Beautiful gun!!👏👏
Such a well made revolver
Beautiful! She's old, but she's still got it.
Super sweet! 💥 I don't know about those new high-tech booolets in that classic, though. ; -]

I still have my grand father's service pistol from the revolution. Greetings from Mexico.
Good ol middle Tennessee. Where I hear gunshots every other day out in the country and you know it's about 70percent Hickoks and 30percent demolotionranch :p Awesome video as always sir.
I AM THE REAPER Granville here buddy!
I want to think that is an arsenal refinished revolver.
Thank you for answering my video request for the 1917 .45 and the browning auto 5. (And other people who requested it as well). I was cleaning my barrel on my 1917 s&w and I put so many patches thru the barrel one after another and it would never come out without black on the patch. Why wont it come out clean?
I inherited one of these and a S&W 1917 from my late father. His Colt had a much cruder cylinder release. I will quibble about terminology though. I believe those six round clips are STAR clips while the three rounders were HALF MOON clips. If you have used the 1/2 moons much at all you will know that they are PITA. The rounds will only eject if the clips are oriented so that the gap between them lines up with that protrusion on the frame that keeps the cylinder from popping off the crane.
I have a book on World War pistols that includes government documents that refer to the 6 rounders as moon clips and the 3 rounders as half moon clips. I believe 'star clips' was a later post-war nomenclature.
sergeantbigmac it is the visual appearance. I have read that the original clip for the 1917 revolvers was a one-piece six round clip. The article said that there was a manufacturing issue with them that was solved by the three rounders. But after many pills sent downrange from those two 1917's as well as my beloved S&W M25 in .45acp I can't believe those would even work. The modern 6 rounders clip the cartridge from the inside rather than the outside which makes a big difference. If you look at them they are a star not a disc like a moon.
Looks gorgeous
beautiful gun
I think that model was briefly discussed in a Luck Gunner video titled Don't be cocky. The premise was not to cock double action revolvers. However; some early double actions were designed as to were the sights couldn't be seen until the gun was cocked.
Your videos are best! 👍👍👍🔫🔫🔫👍👍👍
To be able to hit all those targets at that distance without a scope? You are a true marksman.
Great gun. Built well
Hickok feeling a little silly again today?... Idk what's going on but he seems to be even happier than usual, lately. Life IS good!
This video made my day thanks Hickok
Hickok, Boom Shaka Lacka, not heard that in a long time.
lol i think i had a toy gun of a colt 1917 when i was a kid cuz the size of gun rings a bell of my memories :P but ye fun to get to see the real deal in a video
Hey hickock so you think you could manage to get your hands on a m3 grease gun or a m55 reising for a vid ?

Very Popular with the British Commandos as it matched up well with their Lend Lease Tommy Guns!
What a neat gun!
That's a nice gun bro
I'd love to see the 1855- 1860's Colt carbine, those guns look very cool, and are even fast reloading rifle.
O melhor atirador do mundo !
It was an attack. Excellent shooting.
The best man
Hey hickok.rec with the edwin sarkissian.congratulations for you work in you tube.🔫🔫🔫🔫
My Grandfather had a S&W M1917 he'd acquired while building his revolver collection, when he past my Mom sold it despite my protests, she later told me she regretted it considering how I still felt bad about it. I do still have the Colt Police Positive he'd used while working as a security guard after he'd come back from the War so that's some solace.
the clip loaded feature is nifty
I visited the Truman Presidential Library last week. As many people know Harry was an Artillery officer during WWI. On display at the Library in Independence MO are many personal effects from Harry;s time as a solider. Included are his Colt 1911 pistol originally issued to him and also a Colt 1917 revolver which he acquired at some point. Presumably preferring the revolver over the auto.
Very nice revolver
You should try to get a hold of a Colt Commando. It was a revolver made for a short time in the 40's chambered in 38 special. It looks a lot like the gun you use in this video.
I love that powerful skiny revolvers!
I have a pair of Franzite vintage grips available for the 1917. Was going to build a Fitz special but found a shrouded DS.
Hello hickok Nice video like ever!! Please can you test the french MAC 24/29? Thanks, have a good day.
My favorite gun
Is the face of your firing pin squared off or rounded? I'm working on one for a relative that has a squared off firing pin and keeps popping primers.
i love this, 1917.
