Jatco CVT Overhaul JF011E RE0F10a/b
This video covers the overhaul of the JATCO CVT transmission used in many Nissan, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Jeep, and Dodge vehicles. If you are working on a 2007 to current FWD Nissan, you likely have a CVT. This video covers the JF011E, which is also called the RE0F10A/B or the CVT 2 or 3. I know, confusing isn't it. Well, at least rebuilding the transmission won't be as confusing after watching this video. This video would also apply to a JF009e (RE0F08a/b) and A JF010e (RE0F09a/b,) because they basically operate the same and use the same process for rebuilding.
In this video, I cover disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of the transmission along with measurements and some description along the way. You'll find in this video, I also vacuum check the valve body to see if there are any worn bores. I go through the process of rebuilding the pulley assembly to give you an idea of what to expect.
This video is intended to teach a student or a technician that's new to CVT transmissions the overhaul and operation of this transmission. This is part of the SIU Automatic Transmissions Curriculum, which can be found at:

Thank you Seal Aftermarket Products (sap.com) for providing me with some CVT kits, and thank you TransGo www.transgo.com for providing me with a flow control valve and a pulley puller tool. Look for another video where I cover the pump and the TransGo tool independently.
2 years later, allow me say that this is the best presented video of Teardown and assembly of aa Transmission I have ever come across. Thank your for your great work Mr. thanks to me I have basic Mechanical engineering knowledge, and would now fix my car. keep up the Great work there Jatco.🤝
'thanks to me...'?!
I don't watch TV anymore.... thanks for your time..
Lol, I’m glad you’re enjoying them!

It is an incredible video, all details, information, reminds, very well explained, put the time to do all this, no rush, and what a great instructor. It worked for me as a reality check, that not being a mechanic, I will never be able to do this on my altima 2009 with bad transmission. Thanks very much.
Good job explaining the details, gave me the confidence as far as the jf-1 puller, good luck finding it available. The posi lock 210 worked great.
Awesome job of explaining The entire rebuild procedure, Thank you Sir!
Alot of people trash stuff when they are taking it apart. You do a very nice and clean job of disassembly without damaging parts. Great job!
Most professional and well done auto tech video I've ever seen. Thanks
Fantastic demonstration, now I feel better about buying a car with a CVT. Your video will be my technical go to if I ever have open one of those, or even understand what is going on driving with one.
Really nice job of explaining the entire rebuild process start to finish. I have a bad Nissan Jatco in a Cube and I hope I dont have to rebuild it, but could with your video. Thank you!
Uffda...make one mistake and it's junk....just the parts to do a complete rebuild are $1200-1500. A rebuilt one is $2-3 thousand, depending on the model. 3 grand may seem like a lot, but really only 4 monthly payments on the average new vehicle.
I’m loving watching this guy use a speed wrench, a lost art!
I've been stumped with the stepper motor alignment with the follower pulley listening to backyard mechanics lol now I know the proper way to line it up 😆 thank you
Took the Jatco transmission home today. Wish me luck.
this is call, professional instructor!!! thank you very much sir, now I know, & I learn a lot from you, how to test valve body, because in honda always recommended replace valve body if there's something problem in gear shifting & have D.T.C. code. now I know, what I will I'm going to do, to test the main valve body. once again thank you very much sir.!!!! God bless you and your house hold, for your sharing with us.
very good this is a complete training thank you for your time
Very skilled with that speed handle.
The absolute best instructional video on the net. Thank you!!
Great video Sr and super easy to understand, thank you for being good human being and shearing your knowledge
Amazing videos, amazing presentation and teacher and what an amazing piece of engineering these transmissions are.

Interesting video on CVT
Love the video, keep em coming...
Really excellent video and explanations. Thank you very much.
By far the most helpful video yet, my ‘13 3.5 Altima has been doing the classic stuttering since I bought it 20k km ago, haven’t been sure what to do when the trans goes as I’m broke, but I think this might give me the courage to try and take my time rebuilding it when it goes
Have you tried changing the CVT Fluid?
@@emmancastillojr.5938 yes, helped a bit with the noise coming from manually shifting. The owner before me said it had EVERY fluid changed when I bought it, found out that was all except trans and it had never been done until I did it at ~9.5 years and 135k km. So I think damage is sort of done
@@emmancastillojr.5938do you have any tips on best fluid to put back in these cvt transmissions? Any miracle additives help? ,,mine has started sliping,,only goes 5mph!,,,Help with any advice 😢

Thanks u sir for the video is really helpful🙏🙏
Hopefully I don’t need all of this, but this video should be very handy in the coming months when I go to do a mild recondition on my JATCO CVT.
Thank you so much. You're simply great. Thank you again.
Great video! Thanks!
Great step by step video! Very concise and clear. I was curious if the Subaru CVT would be similar in design and rebuild process? Thank you

Wow! Great video, thank you sir!!
Terimakasih video ini sangat membantu saya,
I am really impressed. I have a X Trail T31 with gear shift problem and really need help
What a fantastic video
Great, thank you! One question: this wasn't shown in the video, but you obviously took this piece of welding wire (holding the ratio control valve link) out before putting the pan back on? And what happens if you miss this step, do not put anything in that hole? The linkage can fall apart when assembling? And what does it result in, car would not move, or just not shift? Because I have a strong suspicion that the shop which replaced the solenoids on my valve body forgot or didn't know about this step. Thank you!
Very good , my Boss !!!! Excellent vídeo. Brasil here
ty...i did quite a few of these...that follower rod...is a pain on all of them....lol...i keep you saved ,just as a reference...) Thank you for this wonderful explanation and dismantling of the CVT transmission , these transmission normally makes whinning noise, where is the whinning noise coming from? ? And what is the best CVT fluid for Nissan Transmission that may make transmission last longer ? ?
Thanks for the very informative video bit you did not mention any recommended torque upon assembling specially around the valve body
Great video on the disassembly process of JATCO CVT. I personally would never buy another car with a CVT transmission after owning Subaru with one. Never again.
Great video and informative thread
I rebuilt my CVT JF011E transmission got it put in but I’m getting a secondary pressure solenoid stuck on ( low pressure) what do I need to look for Thanks I replaced valve body with a complete reman Please can you help 5:53
Great explanation like you
Done rebuild using the Jatco manual and then found your video, I done everything you explained very well, however no matter how many times I’ve checked behind myself. The forward clutch doesn’t seed flush. What is most common reason for this issue? Thanks Barbara
Hi. Fantastically informative. Thank you. I am in Australia and we have a 2012 Suzuki Swift Sport with CVT. Car has had a young mother and our grand daughter, a novice (but very careful) female as owners of this car from new. Car has only 80K Kilometres on the clock. Within 12 months of our girl getting the car the CVT started slipping and got to the point where it is undriveable. We took it to the Suzuki dealer for diagnosis and quote and the only thing they would contemplate was replacement with a new transmission at a cost of a little over $9K AUD. They refused, or could not give details why the transmission had failed. The car is in beautiful condition but is not worth that much. Other transmission specialists were contacted and all reports were very negative. We were told that these transmission are "Throw away", cannot be repaired, and that the parts are not available anyway. So now we have a nice bright yellow monument sitting on the back lawn. I am an experienced mechanic and your video has given me the incentive to have a shot at repairing it myself. But if the parts I need are not available or prohibitively expensive, I would be wasting my time. Do you have any advice for me? Thank you. Gert Roewer, Jindera NSW Australia.
Thanks for watching the video. 5-7 years ago many shops had the same attitude about rebuilding cvts here in the states. Now many shops are rebuilding these because there are so many out there. I guess in your situation, you’d want to do research to see about parts availability. You might find out how much it would cost to have parts sent from the us to you. Slauson.com has a ton of good used belts and pulleys. The transgo drop in flow control valve is a good product and I’m sure it’s available through parts suppliers worldwide. When you pull it apart, the pulleys might look bad if the belt was slipping, but it’s likely build up and the material will probably clean up. I wrote an article for gearsmagazine.com for their January issue. You can read the magazine online and that issue includes a buyers guide. Download that mag and learn more about the cvt and check out some of the suppliers. You might find what you need!
@@siuautomotive Thank you. Very helpful.
Hi Gert, did you ever find a solution? Also in Australia with the same car.
@@CM-ch5vc No Clive not yet. Granddaughter has another car and this car is gathering dust. I don't have a lot of time but hope to get to it before too long. Has your trans failed too?
@@gertroewer152 no mine hasn't failed, its shuddering on deceleration and sometimes won't up shift if revving around 3-4k rpm, i can also feel what seems to be a slight slip. I think the last person to service the transmission has used the wrong oil type(pink color) I have been sourcing service parts for it from the dealer, all coming from over east or Japan. This sort of explains why the CVT in this has a bad reputation, I think people don't service them or if they do, they dont use oem spec stuff as it's hard to source them locally, also pricey. From what I've gathered, it's very easy to damage with the wrong fluid and recommended is the expensive Suzuki green fluid. I did a drain and fill over the weekend with correct fluid but not much change. I intend on getting a full drain and fill as fluid is still coming up pink when new fluid is green. There is also an external filter which according to suzuki is not a serviceable item, wrong! I had a look at mine and that thing was is extremely dirty for a filter(100k km on car). I have called a number of wreckers around and this transmission is known for its scarcity and quick sell, so even when they have them, they sell them for close to 4k because of this. There's a specialist in NZ that reconditions them and sells them worldwide including Aus. He also supplies parts/guidance to guys that rebuild them here. He wants ~$3,400(2,800 + 600shipping) excluding GST.
love you man you are number 1
That’s! That was pretty cool!
Many tnx for share Master,
Thanks for the great video ; Ihave a 2007 4x4 Patriot the rpm jumps after 140km/h but no more speed. That started after I flushed the cvt oil and changes the filters. what do you think the problem is thanks
Gods work
This is a great video. Very informative. I got a Nissan Sentra 2017. With the code P285A. They are telling me to change the transmission but do you think I can just change the valve body assembly. Forward does not work but reverse works so I don’t think it’s the metal belt. I would really appreciate if you can reply to me and let me know what you think. Thank you
Thanks big dawg.
Hi! Thanks for making this greatly informative video! My 2012 Altima has zero codes, but is hesitant to engage (forward or reverse) until it's moved a bit. It's as if it needs to build pressure in something. Before I take it apart, I'd love to hear your ideas on this.
Well, they are known for pump flow valves sticking. There's really not much that needs to happen to get these moving. There's just two clutches, and if it's happening in forward and reverse, it'd have to either be a pump issue or a drainback issue and you're waiting for the torque converter to refill. You could put a pressure gauge on the forward or reverse pressure tap to see how quick pressure builds.
Super brüder, Segen!!!!
Hi. Great video! I been messing with my moms cvt using this video as a guide. I wanna rebuild it in the future but I have a question. Where do you source a kit to overhaul all these parts on these JF011e's? Finding stiff online but some of it doesn't seem to trust worthy.
Thank you!! This was fascinating to watch.
Did or does this trans typically have shims in the cover that holds the pully assys? We just took one apart and it has shims. Do we simply put those back?
Hi very good please do it rebuild Dct and different model cvt zf . thanks for sharing and keep going
thank you for that was most interesting jnd fascinating
Great video , do you overhaul Audi multitronic CVT as well?
I would like to see a similar video of the K312 transmission for the Toyota C-HR - and find out where the defect is in it. The Turkish CVT transmissions are not holding up well for some reason. There are many reports of this transmission failing in 2018-2020 C-HR models
Exelente ideal traducirlo al español gracias
Dose someone know part number for return piston spring/pre load spring? Great video by the way
Que especificaciones debe llevar el aceite para la CVT?
Buen video de 10
Gracias por la información gracias a ti me e enseñado
Thank you for your content, I was wondering about the below: 1. what is the exact purpose of Neutral? Is it just for emergencies such as towing the car, or should we engage neutral at traffic lights etc? 2. Would it be harmful to the transmission to engage in sport mode while on the move i.e for overtaking or for driving uphill? 3. Finally, I was curious on the effects of start/stop systems on CVT's Thank you.
Awesome video! Best I’ve seen! One question, how do I make up that genius vacuum tester you were using?!! Thank You!
Funny you asked! I made a video on it just a couple weeks ago: kzhead.info/sun/pLSik8ifsHd8pWg/bejne.html

how do you know what one you have? i have a2007 murano can a newer trans swap into it say a 2012?

Hello there Mark! Thanks for watching and say hi to everyone for us. I was just talking about AJ Ross today. Hope things are going well for you all!
@@siuautomotive Hello. I work in IT at Parkland, know JR . Done my share of wrenching. My son just ate 5K on his Pathfinder with a CVT which brought me to the video. I'm just amazed at transmissions. Wish I could learn and try a rebuild/repair some day. My sons Pathfinder had the low speed shudder etc. Nice video you guys did. Getting ready to retire in a few years. thanks a lot sir for this great video, just a quick one pls, can i use three jaw puller to pull up the secondary pulley gear. thanks
Yes sir, it should work fine
Wow, outstanding, thank you so much! When they say not to chnage the transmission oil in an older car (200k miles and older), if it was never changed previously, which parts could be impacted in a negative way by the fresh oil?
The main reason people say don’t change the oil on high mileage transmissions is because the new fluid has great detergents that will break loose varnish and gunk and potentially hang up some valves. Varnish doesn’t really build up in transmissions like they used to, so it really shouldn’t make a difference. If your fluid is really dark though, you might be taking a risk.
I enjoy one by one movement ❤
@siu automotive, hoping you can offer me some assistance I have this 7 speed CVT in a suzuki swift its shuddering on deceleration not frequently when warm but mostly when cold, sometimes won't up shift if revving around 3-4k rpm 60-70km, revs fluctuate between 3-4k, i can also feel what seems to be a slight slip high revs not much speed infrequently. The car feels like it slows down going from 2-3rd and like there's a lump when it eventually up shifts to 3.I think the last person to service the transmission has used the wrong oil type(pink color). I have done a drain and fill with oem suzuki fluid(green) but not much change, fluid is still pinkish. I also noticed the filter on the cooler return line was quite dirty. I'm currently waiting for the oil pan gasket, external filter to arrive before doing a complete fluid change.
Thank You For Sharing. Could u upload a video for Lifen X50 CVT Transmission, plz?
How often do you reckon you’d need the change those two filters? I had a Nissan CVT flush for the first time in its 60K miles and am now worried neither of these filters were looked at.
Outstanding video, thank you!
I'm rebuilding a RE0F09B I need pulleys and belt can I use them from a RE0F09A?
