  • I made a video for this same job same vehicle.. I did not have to remove the ball joint from the spindle. I dont reccomend doing it that way as its more difficult. Its easier to remove the spindle from the struts with the 2 21mm bolts. They always come loose and no it does not require an alignment when you reassemble. awesome video by the way.

    • I also did it this way. Didn't want to fool with the ball joint at all.

    • @Grey Matter Interesting. I didn't think of that. I also took the inside boot off and pulled the joint from the housing at the transmission instead of struggling to get the whole axle out. Sad thing is I just stumbled on CV axle grease on the driveway again. Looks like my last boot repair lasted almost 4 years. So not bad. Think i'm just going to replace both CV axle assemblies this time.

  • When removing or reinstalling the joint onto the splines, does it have to be on a certain spline? Meaning does it have to be marked to go back on the exact way it came off?

    @SupramanTRD@SupramanTRD Жыл бұрын
  • Do you really have to pull the axle out of the transmission? It looks like you can just take the boot off, pop the slip ring, and pull just the CV joint out. That would eliminate the trans fluid spill, but you'd have to do the re-booting and CV/slip ring under the car.

  • As many point out, in the rust belt or the US northern mid-west and the ocean coastal regions, these Nissan shafts just DO NOT slide out of the bearing carrier for the right-side front axle. Nissan used two dissimilar metals (steel vs aluminum). Many shops don't even want to replace them here without charging ridiculously high labor fees (I see why). I just need to replace the inner boot. On the vehicle videos would actually be beneficial IMO. Getting ready to tackle replacing the boot with axle in situ. Maybe I'll do a YT video to record my successes (LOL). Was even going to try using CV forks but you need to remove the subframe to get them in place, I'll pass.

  • I'm just curious why you took off the bottom bolt. I watched another video in which they took off the top two bolts, and then I didn't have to mess with the bottom bolt at all. It seemed much easier.

  • Looks like a new axle in the re-assembly.

    @Mr1279Dave@Mr1279Dave5 жыл бұрын
    • Noticed that too. The outboard CV joint is all shiny and rust-free and the clamps around the inboard CV joint are not the same as the pair installed in the video. This is actually messed up because they couldn't separate the CV axle from the jack shaft so it leaves one wondering what went wrong off-camera?

    • He said not to use brake cleaner because it can wear the bearings out prematurely

      @jamesolelo4406@jamesolelo44062 жыл бұрын
  • I'm having trouble getting the old axle out despite many methods tried. I have a brand new full axle -- I may just separate it at the tripod, and put the new tripod into the old axle without trying to get the bearing out of the housing.

    @danielmitchell8178@danielmitchell81784 жыл бұрын
    • it's probably a good idea to swap it, if you are changing out something major like a CV axle, typically recommended rotation for CVT fluid is 30k miles.

  • What about the transmission seal. That’s a hard one, but if your already In that deep why wouldn’t you replace it. The only way I could get my arms in there was to remove the outer axel bearing bracket. Next time I’ll pay a pro.

  • How do I know if I need this replacement done on a 2013 rogue? What signs do I need to look for?

    @MsCdawnj@MsCdawnj4 жыл бұрын
    • +Crystal Johnson Grease coming out of a small crack or tear is the early sign of the CV joint boot failing. If the damage is larger, you might see dark grease splattered on the inside of the wheel rim and around the area inside of the drive wheel like in the photo. If the car continues to be driven with a damaged CV joint boot, the CV joint will wear out and eventually fail. The most common symptom of a badly-worn outer CV joint is a clicking or popping noise when turning. Usually the noise gets louder when accelerating in turns. In the worst cases, a badly-worn outer CV joint can even disintegrate while driving, which could create a potentially hazardous situation. Inner CV joint failures are rare. One of the symptoms of a failed inner CV joint is lateral (side-to-side) shake during acceleration. A worn-out inner CV joint may also cause clunking when shifting from Drive to Reverse. Thanks for watching.
