    • Except they didnt innovate anything in this literation: regressed back to hole punch camera, no more dual front firing speakers making some of their old (and very expensive) accesories unusable, smaller battery, all while costing more than a 15 Pro Max. It might seems attractive in the US where people doesnt know any better than iphone or samsung, but elsewhere (especially Asia), this is a hard pass in a world where the Redmagic 9 Pro exists. The whole point of a gaming phone is having an aesthetic that stands out, if you want a normie phone, you buy an iphone or samsung, not asus.

  • 8:10 The ROG phones and Zenfones are developed by 2 separate teams, and they're most likely not sharing camera tech whether it's due to internal competition (like their sales numbers get reviewed by upper management) or they simply have beef with each other, thus the difference in camera performance. All of the above is based on my work experience in another Taiwanese company similar to Asus.

    @Leanzazzy@Leanzazzy3 ай бұрын
    • Motion blur in video is usually related to the shutter speed of the video. Higher shutter speed = no motion blur, lower shutter speed = more motion blur. There is a drawback of higher shutter speed is that the time between each frame information is a lot more so you kind of get a janky motion but if you increase the frame rate problem solved. Higher shutter speed requires a lot of light, so I honestly expect motion blur in low light.

But I'm a bit of a tech geek, I love having the new tech that comes out into the world. But regarding phones that I actually often change (I'm currently going from a z fold 4 to a pixel 8 pro), and when you change brands, what about the charger? Does the phone's battery get damaged by using chargers from other manufacturers? Eg. a samsung charger for a google pixel 8. Can it be done, or does it damage it? Should you always buy original chargers or what should you look for? Thought it was a cool topic! Good day!

  • They're slowly improving and making it more closer to a proper flagship phone. But if they can match their camera with the Zenfone, then the price is justifiable. Maybe its a couple of years away from peaking. But its just not quite there yet. But its definitely two steps forward and half step back

    @mohammedfaiisal@mohammedfaiisal3 ай бұрын
    • How is it "improving" if they are slowly getting rid of the only reasons to buy the phone. they got rid of any attempt at cooling - especially when a vast majority of rog 5, 6 and 7 phones died within 2 years because of overheating because they are slowly getting rid of their built in cooling architecture. they got rid of bezels which help with long gaming sessions - now resting thumbs on the edge leads to accidental inputs. they got rid of the led indicator that lets you see which app you have a notification from from a distance because of customizable colors. at this point why buy a rog instead of any other phone? what do they do differently? headphone jack -> sony ; dual usb ports-> use a dock ; high specs -> literally any other competitor because at least they have better customer support than asus. what a disappointment.

      @PorungaSan@PorungaSan3 ай бұрын
    • @@PorungaSan they're making it more like a normal phone and just because a gaming phone is a gaming phone, it doesn't mean you have to treat it like a console and play games on it all the time. • from what i see the overall take is like 50/50. I get it that their goal this time is to reach more potential consumer because really the "mobile gaming" audience is still considered niche in a way. rog phone 8 tries to take the middle point between fancy-and-cool-looking-albeit-niche and the casual classy subtle aestethic of a phone as a daily drive device. Personally, i like the casual design changes, it definitely meet their goal to make it easier to approach. And likely be easier to see custom casings for it as i do like personalized stuff, which is a problem with precious entries. But on the other hand, its unfortunate they gotta sacrifice some the main selling point of "why people buy rog phones" to begin with, their uniqueness. How many modern phone have front facing speakers now? all i see is Lenovo legion, Asus rog phones, and sony, only 3 (razerphone is outdated) and Asus is the last active player. and trust me, when you taste front facing speakers, you can never go back to side-facing ones. new camera module is great but i personally not picky about picture post-process quality. The punchhole is a dissapointment. i'd rather have a few mm of bezels to fill in good speaker and camera just like.... idk.... all previous rog phone??? and having a full unobstructed screen. this punchhole trend on phone is really stupid since its debut imo. The water resist is nice feature to have but imma be honest, who would bring or use their phone to water hazard situation?? like sea, pool, or rains? or some wet accident at home? if i know im going to such situation i wont bring or use my phone, or keep it at a safe place so even if accidents happens, it doesnt matter. 20 years of using phones, i have never let it touch water other than wet cloth to clean it. Im neutral on battery changes as 5500mah \is still conderably high knowing others still goes with 4000-5000mah. and firmware and software programming can also make difference in efficiency if asus really did that. im a long time user of rogphone2 since release till now and still going strong with 0 repairs/problems. for me this is a mixed bags. i was waiting to change my phone for yet another rog, but i guess 8 isnt it. For the next rog iterations, i really hope they have this casual design, but returns all the unique feature like speaker, full onobstructed screen, and who knows maybe more than 6000 battery like redmagic did. or until another company made that exact thing.
