@vickisummer74 It stated in the video that the orca was a 60 year old grandmother. The orca in question is obviously known to the researcher's who made the video, hence why they recognised her as being a 60 year old grandmother. She may have been tagged or identified through the researcher's archives. I suggest that you personally contact them if you think otherwise. They might be interested in your claim. Heck, if you're correct, you could even be offered a position as a marine biologist with your wealth of marine knowledge. 😉

That orca had some incredible speed when it hit the shark. Amazing video
Yes, I thought pretty much the same. The orca likely made the sprint to hit the shark straight from the side, in order to maximize the impact and chance of success.
The Orca took that shark down hard.
I was surprised of the speed too. Wow, are they ever powerful.
It's because humans are constantly taking so much from the oceans that they now have changed their behaviour
The shark didn't see it coming until the moment before impact. The whale is aware of the sharks field of vision, and took it by surprise. Then it ate its liver, which, I have heard, is up to a third of its total weight, the most nutritious part. (The whale must have got quite a smack in the face, hitting at that speed, presumably with its mouth open. I expect it probably lost some teeth doing so.) I suppose white sharks prey on juvenile orcas.
The JAWS movie would've been 2 minutes long if there was an Orca in the beginning.

The "Orca" (One of my favourite films), but you are right, it's the exact reason.
Grew up in the northwest and saw orcas regularly. At an early age I knew I was seeing something very special and quickly found love and respect for them. They were so fast, gliding by with silent speed. We did see their prey occasionally flying through the air with a powerful tail swat. No doubt, they're in charge. I've also fished Guadalupe Island as an adult, seeing many giant great whites there. The great whites are massive, toothy critters that humans have no chance against. They have no chance against the orcas...

That indicates that the orca was coming from fairly deep in the water, stalking the shark slowly and then rose silently till she was close enough and then surged the last 50 or 60 feet for a nice juicy sushi liver dinner. @@Romulan2469orcas vs GW's and hippos vs crocodiles. 😑
Wow she was fast as lightning
Holy smokes, the speed!
Orcas are at the top of the ocean food chain for a reason. They are at the very top of the apex predator mountain. Intelligent, creative, fast and strong.
They are not the top of the food chain. Pilot Whales hunt and sometimes eat orcas.
Indeed , Great whites only look scarier . But if it comes down to it , and something happens to drive extinction , the shark has a better chance in that department . But for now , orcas remain too oceanic apex predator
I'd say a sperm whale is pretty much also at the top of that food chain.
@@raylopez99I was going to say the same thing.
Wolves of the sea.
