I'm a legit. 6-6 without shoes or straining. I was listed at 6-7 when I played college bball and I am in shoes. When I backpacked through the Netherlands, I still felt tall but not nearly as tall as I do in other countries. I saw kids that were probably 14-15 all around that were my height or taller. I met a family in Rotterdam, with two sons, that were so tall that I could barely believe my eyes. Normally, I don't go up to people and ask their heights but I had a huge buzz and I was super curious. The father was 6-11 and the mother was 6-7. Their 14 year old son was 6-8 and their 17 year old son was 6-10. The father said his father and brother are both over 7-0. I'm not used to being shorter than a 14 year old kid and his mother. 😂

I am about 5,9 (176 cm) and I have been to Amsterdam, Den Hague, and Haarlem. I felt so puny walking by these giants. Definitely genetics are a big role as you mentioned. Also, I consume lots of dairy (it's a staple in Bulgarian cuisine) and it has likely had zero impact on my growth.
there's no giant impact with that diary consumptions, it's just maximizing your genetic height offers, then your descendants will continue it until they finally grow lot taller, that's how netherlands doing, ain't no way you can be higher by only consuming a tons of dairy everyday and overtake your friends who having taller genes than yours
Actually the Dutch were the shortest in the world at some point. Usually native Indians, Africans and some parts of Asia are meant to be taller if colonialism were not involved. For example, during the mesolithic era South Asian averaged 6ft. There is data on this if u are wondering. But bc of colonial rule, forced famine and non-violent rebellions from our side we grew shorter.
@@rikiyaaragakiI'm a 6ft Indian living in the west. Ppl say our race is short. The older people in my family are very short but my cousins who also live in the west range from 5-11- 6ft3. Idk 180-194cm. They also have short parents. I think nutrition plays a big role.

@@rikiyaaragaki Its not about CaucAsIaN genes mate. They do not make you tall. If u are wondering people from some parts of Tibet are very tall. Like average 6ft especially from Kham village. It's mainly about environmental factors. Infact, the Caucasians that emigrated there were most likely short. We were taller than the greeks are some point. They even have accounts of the Greeks coming over to Kerala - my state (the state there the Western media calls short and black) and saying that we were much taller than the average Greek. Most of my family members are short except for me and my cousins. It is pretty common to see a 5ft6 Indian dad having a 5ft10+ son in the west - especially if they are 2nd generation. But being tall is pretty overrated tbh.

In the Netherlands Dutch kids have on average 10 hours sleep and the parents make sure of it. Nutrition could be a factor, but I think genetics and sleep are the most important ones
Good one

I'm 173cm (5'8'') and just moved to the Netherlands after a summer vacation in China, went from feeling taller to average to literally dwarf. I've never cared about my height but the sudden change is rather intimidating.
173 cm is 5’6”
@@edivad7888no
@@edivad7888 Nope it's 5ft 8 inches
U so cute bro 😂
@@edivad7888You’re mistaken, 173cm is roughly 5.6ft, so 5 feet and 6/10ths. 5’8” means 5 feet and 8 inches which is out of 12. So he is 5’8” and 5.6ft.
I talked to biologists about it and they said that it is a combination of mostly nutrition, vaccination (and other ways of preventing children from falling ill) and also the strict regime of sleeping. Dutch parents are taught that children should sleep enough and keep a strict regime. This gives the body to use the stored energy for growth of the body and brain. Tall men are regarded as more attractive in most Western cultures so this selection could have happened in all Western cultures. Considering the diet: the Maasai people in Africa are also extremely tall. The Maasai diet consists of raw meat, blood, raw milk, honey. So I think your conclusion that it is natural selection is not in accordance to what scientists say.
Then would this also correlate with higher IQ scores? Or is that just a tall tale
Yeah sleep is fundamental. I went to sleep late during my entire childhood, didn't eat much and didn't do intense physical activity and it stunted my growth very heavily - I'm missing 4 to 6 inches of height compared to every other man in my family.

Scientists say that height is 80% hereditary and that most developed countries have the necessary nutrition to support normal growth. He probably got his conclusion from researching the problem online. The one biologist you talked to is probably an outlier. Not saying he's wrong in his conclusion.
I've done the exact opposite, I lived in the UK for 4 years, at 186/6'1 I was considered quite tall there, whereas in Utrecht (my home city, as it happens) I'm extremely average.

I don't trust the nutrition aspect. As a kid, I drank a lot of milk, yet I'm only 1.80 meters tall. My brother, who barely drinks milk, is around 1.95 meters tall. So, I think genetics must play a role.

Dairy ABSOLUTELY helps your growth by a huge margin. My parents and all of my grandparents are between the heights of 5’4-5’9 max. My brother and I broke family records at each age for height history in the family and we are 6ft+. I grew up on drinking milk every single day twice a day for 18 years. Milk at least is a huge growth factor
Nearly all of the height conversions were wrong. To the nearest inch: Netherland Male avg 1.84 ~ 6'0 not 6'1 2:20 1.96 ~ 6'5 not 6'4 2:26 2.05 ~ 6'9 not 6'7 2:33 1.94 ~ 6:4 not 6'3

Yeah, UK aren't particularly short but if you go to any Germanic or Slavic countries 181 is the average
Well the netherlands has a culture of eating cheese and drinking milk. That’s why drinking milk is so ridiculed here in belgium. Nurture is also an important factor to consider.

It's a combination of different factors. For example I myself grew up with diary alot. Infact that was my main source of nutrition but I didn't grow taller than 169 cm because my parents and grandparents werent tall. In some cases a child would still grow up to be taller than their ancestor because there is a 10% - 20% room for development which is not depending on the genes. Which means the majority of bodily growth depends on genetics but some of it is affected by other factors. I assume since there there are mostly tall people in Netherlands and when tall people interbreed with each other then most likely the child will become tall too. It would take many generations for the descendants to become either significantly taller or smaller. In the end of the day our growth depends majorly on genetics but is also bound to take it's own course to some degree.

Such difference between brothers is absolutely wild
Bro man travelled to a different country just to humble himself, what a man
Great content joe keep it up 💪🔥 🏋️♂️
ive never blinked a eye at tall people because my dads 6'7 so id like to go to the netherlands and have a look
2:45 the diffence between the nose protrusions is insane
as a Dutch 6’5, great video Joe. Love to see my country in one of your videos 😂
I am dutch and 1.87 that was a very interesting video Joe! cheers
at 2:30 dude said hes 6.3 ft and hes 2 inches taller than u>? are u 6.4ft or 6.1>?
As a dutch guy,i feel short with 5'9,btw you should travel to South-Sudan once, like Drew Binsky did..
Went to the Netherlands a few years ago and given I am 6‘1, I felt small for the first time in my life 😂🥲
I am a tiny bit over 6 feet tall (183.5 or something like that) and I visited Amsterdam twice, even though on paper the average is "only" almost 6'1 its just because of the massive immigration there, when you actually look at the dutch people I would say the average for men is something around 6'3, I felt like a midget there, but surprisingly I had a moment when a dutch man tried speakeing dutch to me he thought im local for some reason even though I'm not blonde or anything haha.
He probably thought you were local cause you were 6 feet
@@stephenfan211 Yeah but 6 feet is nothing special at the Netherlands haha, but its around the average after all so maybe because of that, who knows.
its fake avg is 6ft only balkans and sweden are taller, netherlands is short nobody gives a fuck sbout holland
I feel like that’s the same with a lot of places. The average height is often taller than is stated when you look it up.
How often you can meet non-immigration PURE DUTCH teen is 200 cm (6'7) in The Netherlands? 1 in 10? 1in20? 1 in 30?
You should also visit South Sudan in Africa you will be shocked
This made me giggle. For me as a short Swede it's the other way round in the UK. I feel normal there. Swede's are pretty tall too, plus we are one of the top dairy consumers in the wööörld! So, who knows? 🤷🏻♂️
Respect to this dude for being able to make his vacations also his job.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm 6'5 barefoot and I was barely allowed dairy as a child and teenager. Height is 90% genetics, not diet.
I think when people say height slightly depends on food, they meant as in not reaching your genetic potential like alcohol and drugs and no proper nutrition (like starvation etc) can legit stunt your growth by a lot
So for that 10% remained, how taller can you grow? If you have a good diet
How well was your sleep?
So why are our Asians so much bigger than their peers back home? Especially Indonesians
So basically tall men have sex, short men don't have sex. The End.
wow, when i saw the shortest country video i think no one can beat you 😂
Im from Greece and when ever Dutch tourists come in summer they crash my ego (as a 6'3 person). You dont understand being a head taller than most of people your whole life and all of a sudden a 6'9 person rolls by you towering over you its like you are in a dream.
Why even have ego for being tall?
@@amodmishra3030 Insecurities
Fr lol. I'm just shy of 6,7 and I've met a 6,11 guy. Made me feel like a short king for once.
Joe is the only one who never tries to get the 8 minutes 😂
I felt like a kid when I was there. And the fixed gear bike also killed me.
Dude needs to visit South Sudan !
Germany is a really tall country too. I am 6‘1 and for young men this is the average height over here and i meet very often men over 6,3 and women over 6 feet
North West germany has problably the same height genetics like the netherlands
germanys recent average for men is 1,80/5 11 not 6 1 lol
@@swigswag1639for young man its 184cm so nearly 6‘1
I whouldnt say averag height here, at 6.1 youre still kinda tall, but not by much i think the aberage height is around 5.11 (180) for younger guys
when i went to north Germany i always feel slightly taller than in the netherlands, i really do notice it eventhough its still tall average.
I'm 177cm flat and I felt like I was 5'3 when walking around Amsterdam.
Bruh, how would a real 5'3 person feel in Netherlands 😂
@@siddharthjayan3002he would probably get stepped on by mistake
It's only a 2 inch difference though, between ur height and their avg height.
@@AZ-gm2mdaverage height is not accurate. You always have to add extra height to the average to get the real average. And in capital cities, people are way taller than the average. Therefore in Amsterdam, people are taller than the rest of Netherlands. So the average height in Amsterdam is probably around 6,3" and young people from 16 to 25 years old probably 6,4"
@@vmb371Maybe that's only true in the Netherlands. In most other countries, i've noticed that most people are actually 1-2 inches below average height. I'm 5'11-6'0 in a country where the average height is supposedly 5'9-5'10, but in my experience it's more like 5'7-5'8.
I have a friend who is a biologist, according to him it is a combination of genetics, food, sleep and exercise. The genetics may even have been helped by the fact that Netherlands has a vast history of floods, and taller people are more likely to survive that, but also the natural selection, although I doubt there is really a pattern of smaller persons staying single, there will always be a smaller female as well that will hook up to a smaller guy. Food can also play a role, the IGF hormones in dairy, and hormones do not always work equally powerful, that also depends on metabolism, genetics. Dutch children sleep quite early and quite long compared to many other countries, which can alos be a contributing factor. And the exercise, especially all the cycling can contribute to more growth.
The measurements is inaccurate. 196 cm is actually 6’5 tall, 205 cm is 6’8 3/4, 194 cm is 6’4
Joe never disappoints ❤
I go to school in the Netherlands and I’m usually one of the smaller guys in class. I’m 6’1 btw. Going abroad makes me feel tall
what the average in ur class with boys?
1. How many boys are taller than 200cm in your class? 2. How many boys are between 190 - 199 cm in your class? 3. Do you have any girls around 190cm in your class? 4. How many students attend in your class? 5. How tall is the tallest boy you've seen? 6. How tall is the tallest girl you've seen?
@@alucardrick7016 got a few that are just below, one above 2 meters. I’d say maybe about 1/3 of the boys are 190cm+. Don’t really know many girls that are that tall, definitely quite a few above 180cm tho. 30 students in class. Tallest guy I’ve seen at school is like 205-210cm. Tallest woman maybe 190-195cm
@@colintrowsdale6981 30% guys are 190+ is pretty cool!!! So 15 boys and 15 girls in your class? The total number is 30?
Robert Wadlow was the tallest person that was ever recorded and was 8'11 so your would at his middle section of his arm
6 4 here, never thought it was interesting so I'm gonna go
As a teenager I lived in Singapore for a year and at 5'11 I was taller than most people standing on the subways. In the Netherlands it was the opposite, I was considered short.
as someone from singapore, yes that’s tall 😂
Im also 5’11 I live in the Netherlands it’s not “short” at all. I feel average most of the time. People just hyperfocus on anyone taller than them and ignore all the other short people.
@@share_accidental Hahahaha not anymore though. I am sure you are from the older generation because 178 to 180 is nothing to the new generation kids anymore.
@@bradyklein1892no lol i’m like 22, i still think 1.8m is tall for a singaporean guy since the guys in my class were all 1.7m+. but i think it’s normal to see tourists that height though.
@@share_accidental I am not saying 180cm is short as fck but it is definitely not that impressive anymore. Yeah it is relatively tall for your generation but ask any old guy from 80s and he will tell you that 180cm during his time was literally a giant for SG guy.
great video joe but some of the cm-inch conversions are off here. 196 is just over 6'5 rather and 205cm is more like 6'9! 194cm is a just over 6'4.
I live in the Netherlands, im 6'6 I stick out for sure also pretty big gym guy. The question at the beginning is so relatable. Hows the weather up there, do you play basketball, you should play rugby. Thing is I actually never liked dairy products, some chees but thats ito i agree with your disagreement
how fast are you on 100m dash? I'm smaller (6ft 4 235 lbs) but I did 10.8s before turning 30. Now I aveage 11.3 seconds.
I'm 6'3 and live in the Netherlands. I'm studying at Tilburg University there and I feel really small. I'm probably the average height there. If you'd have went to any uni campus in the Netherlands you would feel way smaller, all of my friends are between 6'0 and 7'1.
How tall are the tallest girls you know?
My sister is 6'0. But I have multiple girl friends that are 6'3-6'4@@StKr-kr2zv
