Inherited wealth. Is it a powerful tool or a destructive weapon? David York argues it can be both, depending on how you define and use it. In this mind-expanding talk, he counsels us on the impending $40 trillion global wealth transfer and how to prevent it from becoming a deadly dynamite detonation.
David R. York is a Principal with the Salt Lake City law firm of York Howell and Guymon, where he practices law in the areas of estate planning, tax, business planning, and non-profit entities. He is a Fellow with the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and a Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Professionals (STEP). David has been regularly named to Utah Business Magazine’s Utah Legal Elite™ in the field of Estate Planning and as a Mountain States Rising Star in Super Lawyers Magazine.
David loves working with entrepreneurs, closely held businesses, and families of all kinds. In particular, he loves challenging conventional wisdom when it comes to wealth transfer and instead prefers to focus on how to make the most positive, meaningful impact with wealth across generations and in society as is humanly possible.

  • Nice talk - plenty of food for thought, but apparently they didn't discuss in law school the original meaning of "will and testament" - will transferred the property, testament were instructions on how it was to be used - good place to start

  • So so true that too much is as bad as too little. Millions of people are starving to death on this planet at exactly the same time as the incredibly rich turn to drugs because they don't have to work or fight for anything, leaving them bored and depresseingly unchallenged. If you have or earn alot of money use what you need to be just comfortable and prepared for your future and spend the remainder on things that improve life for others. You dont have to give money away. Just spend it on things that make a big difference to a place or people that couldnt otherwise do it. From creating a daycare in your workplace or a space for a community garden to saving the children in war torn countries. Improve your community and your world.

  • Why care about inheritance, like the world will remember the 10.000th person to plant a tree.
