This is the best info video I’ve ever seen. Straight to the point, clear and comprehensive. No childish camera sways or unnecessary immature clatter wasting time and energy trying to fish what is being communicated. 👍
For a daily, if roads are not smooth i recommend bigger side wall tyres. Looks suffer but you will travel faster because you don't have to slow down so often. Belive me, i tried both.
Driving on 19 inches on shitty roads and in sporty car is pain in the ass - literally.
EnhancedNightmare especially if you live in Brooklyn...oh the horror.. pick up trucks and suvs wiz by me all the time while I’m swerving around potholes.
Ya my Ford Fusion comes with the standard 19 inch 235’s it is more sporty and all but when I hit a pothole the car sometimes swerves a tiny bit I can really feel the difference with the 19’s and my winter 17’s

Great video! In neighboring Bulgaria tire size in not regulated at all - you can put whatever size you wish, no one will check or let alone fine you for putting the wrong size.

ask F1 for small wheels.they run on 13th R, and forget about 225/45/17 on your A3,trial to put some 265/45r15 100% better or 245/50r15 also good choice. Lowering the weight of rotating mass and radius of the wheel makes it easier to speed up or faster slow(breaking) down that mass
I prefer the smallest rims/wheels available on a given car. Narrower combinations track straighter and are less affected by road imperfections. I'm a twitchy driver by nature so I need a tire that resists, not enhances, reaction to driver steering input. I also run my pressures closer to what is labeled on the driver door pillar, or in the glove compt. lid, than what is listed as max pressure on the tire itself. Heavier steering feel, more secure.
I could care less about how my tires & wheels look, and am more concerned with how they DRIVE. To me, 19+" wagon wheel are for exactly that - showing off. I like narrower wheels/tires because they track straighter at highway speeds than do fatter combinations, and are less prone to tramlining(being tugged on from side to side by road imperfections. I'm not driving around corners to the market or to work at 150kmh. So I have no need for hair-trigger response to steering wheel input. 60 or higher-series profile tires do it for me! :D
@Faggot Rotten Yikes!... never mind. A 4cyl Accord actually. Enough power for my everyday needs. Factory size 50-series tires on 17" rims. Still too twitchy and responsive for my driving style. My priority is more about staying in my lane than with turning on a dime and giving my passenger/s whiplash
@Faggot Rotten I grew up on 70-75-series tires on 14-15" rims. I prefer the straight-ahead feel of that package. Those were the standard size on cars from the 1950s up until the late '80s
@Faggot Rotten My reply won't go through, repeatedly, so hopefully you might see this. The specified size for my 2010 Honda Accord, EX trim, is P225-50R17. Currently wearing a full set of Pirelli Cinturato P7 All season II. Reasonably quiet and smooth tire, but responsive when I need it to be.
Good stuff! Congrats!
Thanks! Really appreciate it :)
Advice please. We are buying a brand new BMW 140i shadow edition which comes with 18’ wheels. We intend to drive most of the time in Europe (motorways). Will it be better a 17’ wheels or should we keep 18’. Any advice will be very much appreciated
Hey Sir what is a good tire where there a lot climbing road is it bigger wheel or smllaer wheel?
Hi, i'm using hyundai i30 2013 hatchback and i am planning to upgrade wheels, i am using 195/65/15. Maybe you can recommend which wheels is good to my car? Thanks
I have a 2007 Lancer ES 2.0 4G63 with 135hp and Im going to upgrade from 16 to 17 inch wheels. Tires are going to be 205. Right now I have winter tires on those are 16 inch as I said and 195 tires. Will there be a slight increase or decrease? 🤔

Just gotta find that sweet spot for your particular ride and your goals for that ride. If you want to have bigger brakes, you'd need bigger wheels, you gain grip from wider rubber, but you sacrifice some acceleration, comfort and durability. Of course I'm over simplifying, one can go too big, too small, too wide, too thin, fat tires, rubber bands- but that's the fun of modding. For a daily, I usually run something close to stock as long it fits my brake package. At the end of the day, you can run the craziest setup if that's your goal.

I have a 2011 s klass with airmatic, the ride is pretty hard on my 19 inch 255 40 goodyear assymetric 2 , if i put a 17 inch with a big tyre thickness of 50 or 55 wil it make a big difference in comfort and not feeling the bumps?

Hey guys, I'm getting a 09 cobalt lt in a couple weeks. Nothing fancy, base model 5 speed manual with roll up windows. I'm not building a performance car by any means, just gonna be my daily work commuter in the summer time. I DESPISE steel wheels and hubcaps. Looking at getting a set of Motegi mr116, 4x100 bolt pattern 17x7 wheels. Offset is 40mm and backspacing is 5.51". Tire rack says these will work on my cobalt with 205/50r17 tires. This sound about right? Edit: car is all stock so suspension mods won't play as a factor
I have a daihatsu bego also know as the terios or toyota rush ..i put 15 inch rims on them to make my tires a bit wider and change the tires to wider ones the fit will like a handcock tires does it affect my vehicle in any way?

06 BMW 325i. I’m having trouble finding the proper size tires. The rear are slightly smaller (45 front 40 rear). They only have 45.
I'm using the stock 15" wheels on e39 with 205/65/15 tires and they are way to comfty and I wouldn't swap for bigger ones, maybe not more than 16"
DORU HUM omg that’s such cute wheels 🤗
Can I use a 205 55 r16 instead of a 205 65r16 on my 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5 S ?
Great vid mate, my question is at heigh speed above 120mph the BMW 120d sport dose not give you the confidence to go faster because the steering is so good. Tyres fitted 205/50R17 93W front Tyres fitted 225/45R17 94w rear What would help the handling better at higher speeds as I would think at lower speed you would not notice.
Try using 18inch wheels or at least, use the same 225/45R17 on the front axle. And also make sure they're perfectly balanced. You don't want any imbalance at that speed. I know what you're saying, I experimented that on my dad's car. On 17 inch wheels at 110 mph it was great, on 15 inch wheels I was afraid to exceed 90 mph.
For 20" wheel, which wide "J" and Tire will be appropriate sir ?
I want wider wheels in the back , does this work?
I will be getting new tires/rims for my 2018 Kia Forte5 and this helps a lot. Do you suggest 16 or 17

You think going from 245/45/r17 to 245/35/r19 will be a significant issue?
What about using wider than original tires with OE diameter wheels?
I have a Chrysler grand voyager 2001 33liter engine, Am I in trouble? The car seem to run normal other than more fuel consumption. And I love them but some people said that “safety is better than sorry” Should I keep them rolling or let them go for 19 or 18 rims?
I currently have 22. Rims on it, do you think the rim is way bigger?
I just bought a car with 235 40 18R tires, (Civic hatchback sport), one issue with high aspect ratio tires might also be there not as good in the snow. Boston Massachusetts.
Hi, thanks for doing a great job. I like your video. What recommended wheel will you advice for a Toyota Corolla 2005 with a stock wheel of 195/65 R15. Will 205/65 R15 be just fine? Thanks

Thanks bro
I put low profile tires and potholes killed them 2 times, damaging the whole suspension completely.
I have an Audi A3 as well with 16 inch wheels. I am looking at 17 inch wheels but Im worried about the decrease in acceleration, slightly harder ride and more fuel consumption. So I have 205/55/16 at the moment but looking at 225/45/17. Do you think the pros would outweigh the cons with the 17 inch? How much more fuel consumption would the 17 inch wheels use do you think? You said you also have 16 inch on your audi but also have 17 inch, do you alternate them now and then? cheers
Keep the 16
@@realblackbetty2204 😐
I have 235/45/r19 on audi A4 but I am a bit concerned about damaging the transmission.... Stock suspension and they did fit
Bravo, bravo!
Would you get fined if you had bigger wheels but smaller tire to preserve the same overall wheel diameter? As long as you keep the same diameter, it's only a matter of weight/comfort, I don't see why it's an issue.
Incorrect, tiny rubber band sidewall does not yield better performance. More capacity for the sidewalls to deform gives you better traction in a straight line and a small amount of diaphragm movement + better compliance improves peak cornering performance. It is 100% for aesthetics, and maybe for selling you a $1500 replacement wheel when you bend a rim.
Thanks from italy
Huh? to change tires you need approval? we just wrench in what we like here in the states..
saby8765 that’s because... freedom! Hell yeah murica!
GreatGrandmasterWang Murica 🇺🇸
Malaysia too you could change what you like.
in my country you can fit any size you want as long as the tires do not touch the fender or inner sidewall when fully turning the wheels to each side. And the tire is not supposed to touch the fender or inner side/upper wall when braking hard.
Must suck not being free
Not sure if my question will be answered, but I am upgrading my wheels from a 2018 Hyundai Sonata, 17" inches with tires 225/55/R17 to 18" inches with tires 225/45/R18. Would that be something that my not effect my vehicle to harshly?
It's unfortunate that no one responded to your question. I am curious to know how that change worked out for you? What were your results?
hi. I'm using 235 40 18 tyres now, I want to upgrade to 245 35 19 wheels. I know if the tyres become wider, it will effect the acceleration and making the steering wheel heavier to turn. but are these changes gonna be very obvious (especially the one with steering)??? thx
+peter zhang 10mm difference won't make a huge difference in steering (235 vs 245). Acceleration will be like 0.1s slower, fuel consumption will slightly increase, but handling will be better.
cheers

Thi Ha my Ford Fusion has 235/40/19 and I can fit 22 inches if I want without having to cut the fender, know your measurements and wheel to fender gap, also know your offset, rim, tire sizes and find some people on KZhead of Instagram that maybe put different profile tires on their BMW X1’s and you should be fine. Basically do your research and you will know soon enough what fits your car

Hi I drive a Toyota townace with 15 inch wheels.should I change to 17 inch ?
Hi, Well, you can, but you will add extra wear to the suspension system. Springs, dampers, links - they will all have a shorter life. Having 15" wheels with a high AR will decrease shocks. Having 17" wheels will make the car handle better, but you should be aware of the consequences. I would use 16" wheels if I were you. It's a big difference in handling between 185/65R15 and 205/55R16. Good luck and thanks for stopping by :-)
There is an optimal size. Pretty much any car using 19" and up is for show only, it's not the best for performance, or ride quality. It also adds more weight which will sap more engine power. The only reason would be to fit huge brakes because the extra stopping power makes up for the performance you lose from having the bigger tyres. Go small and wide, but not too wide. Then lower the car to sit nicely on the smaller wheels to lower the center of gravity. That's how people set up a car for track. They don't just stick bigger wheels on it because it reduces performance of the car. People will go as low as 15", even f1 cars only use 16".
F1 cars use 13 note 16
@@bratosin1 they use small wheels for lower center of gravity , is the best bigger wheels for track because better performance of handeling
what will be the effects of putting 17" inch tyres in front and 16" tyres in rear or vice versa?
probly not much.. you may have seen some cars change huge sizes in the runs.. however they maybe have had specially changed suspesion setups
If the car is awd or 4wd that can really screw up your transmission or differential, front or rear wheel I don't think it would make a difference. Why do you want to do that? Looks?

You keep referring to the tire as the wheel. What if you keep the same width and decrease the wheel diameter?
My car originally comes with 18 inch wheels but it has 17 inch rims on it. Do I lose performance?
No, you don't. The circumference of the wheels are almost identical. The wheels on 18" have the height of the rubber smaller and the diameter of the rim larger, while the 17" wheels have a higher height of the rubber and a smaller rim. If you put them side by side, they are almost identical. Well, it depends from size to size, but for example: 245/35R18 has a circumference of 77.7 inches, while the 225/45R17 has a circumference of 78.45 inches. It's a very small difference, I would say it isn't noticeable until 200 km/h. It's a huge bump in performance / handling if you jump from 16" to 19" or so. I hope I answered your question.
I fitted 17 inch wheels with paper tyres on my Suzuki Swift together with stiff lowering springs to get that ‘race car’ look when I was younger. While the cornering and handling was significantly better compared to stock, the car became almost impossible to drive because it was so uncomfortable whenever the roads were uneven and my front bumper had scrapped every hump there was on the road. 6 years down the road, I had my front bumper replaced because it had cracked so badly and I changed EVERYTHING back to stock. Best decision I’ve made in my life because the car felt completely renewed and was easy to drive from point A to point B. I believe it was more costly to convert everything back to stock since I changed my headlights, tinting, rims, tyres, license plate etc. Don’t make the same mistake I did because the car’s manufacturer precisely engineered everything to work together and changing something as minor as a single wiring can have devastating effects on your overall driving experience
hi from Mohammed in australia...great video bro...thanks a lot....why your video is not rated higher...you answered my exact question without too much complexity..thumbsup to you....my mazda mx-5 is on 45R17 and im thinking of going to 50R16 to make the ride less bumpy and comfortable...will it help? but i dont want to loose my braking and fast acceleration...how much of these would i loose? thanks
+mohd.makhdoom makhdoom Hi! The ride will be more comfortable, but you will lose performance. If you don't drive over 130km/h you won't feel the difference. At higher speeds, you will miss the 17" wheels.
Thanks for the prompt response mate....we are not allowed in Australia to go over 110km/hr anywhere anyway...haha. also just a weird thought.how would a car behave if it's rear tyres are 17" and front ones 16" or vice versa . ;-)
mohd.makhdoom makhdoom go small wheele & lo-pros I did that on my cibic and is much more fun for driving around town.
yes it will but also the quality of tyre. check out what BMW Merc Jaguar Lexus use and go from there
Very good advise to follow manufacturers recommendations for starters. However there is a lot more to this subject of large rims and very hard low profile tyres. As soon as you change any wheel or tyre from what the car was designed for you get Into the suspension problems of sprung weight versus unsprung weight. If this doesn't matter then so be it. But if it is comfort and safety you are after and you are not a racing driver then you better learn a lot more about tyres and rims than you are most likely hearing from your local armchair speedsters and racing drivers.
I don't like small wheels and ridiculously huge wheels make the car look like a life size hot wheels car which looks kinda cheesy.. I run 245/45/17s on my car, they are wide tires yet they still have pleanty of sidewall, what would you consider these to be?
Smaller wheels aren't all ugly. There are many cars that I find look much nicer with small/standard wheels. (Lowering the car makes it look a little nicer again, but can compromise the comfort). Many larger wheels just look like big dinner plates.
Looks are a matter of opinion my friend, Small wheels can look great on cars but they have to be the right car and the right wheels
He doesn't know what he's talking about, he's obviously reading what he thinks is best. Small wheels most times are better for performance; take dragsters, formula1 cars, etc. They all have one thing in common; small wheels.
So bigger wheels accelerate faster? I have a Toyota Corolla with a non powerful engine and I have small wheels (r16) instead of 17 on the high equipment. I think that for a non powerful engine small wheels accelerate faster no?
do heavier rims have greater stability than lighter rims? I know theory says lighter rims are more stable, but on experience, heavier rims cut through water better and take corners better.... thoughts?
The more weight on the wheel, the less it'll move on impact. So, it leads to a smoother ride. That's my opinion based on my distant memories of college physics.
Salutări din Moldova! :D 👍
Thanks:)
I love the look of 15's, so no downside there. More tire sidewall gives a badass look!
On a smaller car, they do look good. But on a full-size sedan, they look weird. For sedans, I think 19" is the right balance between looks and performance. Anything bigger will make the ride rough.
Thats what im talking about

Is your car a Toyota Corolla LE? If so what year? I have a 2009 Toyota Corolla LE and originally comes in 15 x 6 rims all around with 195/65/R15 and I was planning in upgrading to 18 inch wheels most likely 18 x 7.5 or 18 x 8. What is the width of your 18 inch wheels all around? How is the handling performance of your car now that you went from 15 inch wheels to 18 inch wheels?
EnjoyLifeNow24 Hi, my car is a 2001 3 Series BMW. As for the tire width is currently 225 and the rim width for the front is 8x18 and back 8.5x18. In my honest opinion I feel better handling when cornering and overall drivability the change from 15s to 18s is quite noticeable. Also the fact the mpg has increased is another plus although didn’t really do the larger wheels for mpg.
My car originally came with 15s and now have 22’s it looks much better then stick sure you have to sacrifice a few things but if you have cash 💵 there’s nothing to worry about.
Thank you Tummas47, I have been looking for some wheels for my car and I am looking at 19 inch wheels because I don't want to see a big gap between the wheels and the fender. I saw my friend's BMW with 18 inch wheels and he told me that if I want to make my Toyota Corolla look superb, he told me to get 19 or 20 inch wheels. I am more inclined in going for the 19 inch wheels with 225/35 or 215/40. If I go for the 20 inch wheels then I will have to get 225/30. I am not willing to go below 35 or 40 inch tires and that is why I am going to choose 19 inch wheels.
tummas47 there will be a huge performance gap. Car will be much slower plus downside on mpg
wouldn't higher tire walls improve hard straight line acceleration and breaking. High wall would deform more thus giving more contact area. You will never see dragsters on low profile tires.
+darko99x I totally agree, but I was talking about regular cars with regular wheels (14 to 20 inch wheels). Those wheels from dragsters also use more rubber and that's why they can use a higher profile. If it had air inside, they wouldn't be that great
99Vehicles TV It would be great if you could test it on some "ordinary" BMW, ie. 320i :-) Same final height, different wall height. Would be acceleration and breaking be significantly different. Also, narrower tires usually have advantage on snow and in case of aquaplaning. And on roada with truck-made grooves (that is my actuall expirience); 165/75R14 almost unnoticeable when cutting corners while on 225/45R17 it was teriffeing experience.
+darko99x yes, it would be great, but I don't have those sizes available. I could tell you for sure this... when I drove my dad's Skoda on the highway with 17" inch wheels, I hit top speed and the car handled great. Now, having 15" wheels... I don't have the courage to go beyond 140km/h. It feels unsafe. There are differences from wheels to wheels and from car to car. If I will have the chance to test what you're saying, I will. Cheers :-)

Aha deci esti roman! Sub :)
Yeap. Sunt roman. Din Ramnicu Valcea. Salutari!
At 2:25 he said that in order to increase wheel size, the Romanian car institute requires an approval before doing so and have never heard of anything like that before. LoL I can't imagine having to do that here in the US, and sounds like government overreach to me. Did l hear that right, or am I mistaken what he said ?
wide tires are fine, until a moderate or heavy rain, or any snow....take a look at a rally car....skinny tires and over 400 hp works fine wide tires have less (PSI) pressure to the road....

Hi, can i replace my 285/45-22 with 275/50-22 on an escalade for better quality? Will it fit? Thanks
ask F1 for small wheels.they run on 13th R, and forget about 225/45/17 on your A3,trial to put some 265/45r15 100% better or 245/50r15 also good choice. Lowering the weight of rotating mass and radius of the wheel makes it easier to speed up or faster slow(breaking) down that mass
He doesn't know what he's talking about.
you can run wheels so large the car has to be lifted in the US. Or as small as go kart rims if you prefer. I'm a car colector and drive anything from a 80's Trans Am to an early Mini Cooper S, To a 70 Chevy truck with a 327 too large engine. Love burning fuel and rubber. In the county I live in in TN there is no emissions testing for any covered late model cars yet. Government control doesn't reach that far yet to dictate wheel size. Hopefully never.
I have a BMW X5 (2007) and the 275/40/20, respectively 315/35/20 are big enough to ruin my breaks and mechanical parts (suspension included). Yes, fuel consumption is huge, but people say the look is dazzling. Well, I want to go back to 255/55/18 all round and see if there is some comfort, after all. The roads are what they are and you cannot enjoy large wheels down any Bucharest street...
I would do the same. I won't have any wheels over 18 on any of my cars. It's just stupid.
