Same problem with claw games. Usually the claw slips off, making you think it was close. I believe the claw rarely grabs strong enough to pick up anything.
Yes claw games are totally rigged, you can set the tension on the claws but most arcade owners always set it too light so it can't grab and hold anything.
Heard they are rigged to only grip tight after a certain amount of games played.
I read somewhere that there are laws due to taxes etc on prices that the machined wont release prices before the market value of that item has been reached . Its hard for me to ecplain exactly but tey and look it up. In conclusion yes its rigged
It's programmed to increase strength based on the number of losses. Some even have a literal number it counts to before significantly increasing it's grip strength..
Yeah, I only won once, and that was because the claw snagged on the toy's material!
To be fair, an arcade is basically a casino for kids. They spend money playing games to try to win jackpots of winnings. And as Mark proves here in an arcade, just like a casino, the house always wins.
That's Chuck E Cheese for you. They make a ton of money off arcade games and pizza with a little bit of beer to go with it.

I used to work at an arcade with these exact machines. they are 100% rigged. we could set the machines to pay out after X amount was put through them and my manager used to play the machines when they were getting close to paying out because if he won it, it would save the store money. As a former arcade tech (albeit 20 years ago) I can confirm Cyclone can be set to payout jackpots at variable intervals and also people would stand there with a cup of tokens and just keep plunking them in. Cyclone was one of our top 3 ticket games for my entire 2 years at the arcade and I'm not surprised it still exists to this day. For the record, MOST of our non-skill based (ie not skeeball or basketball) redemption games from that time period had ways of being set to payout jackpots variably.

Not cheating, checking dank memes!
I worked at an arcade for 5 years. A lot of the games are rigged. It obviously depends on the game, but many of them have options where you can set the payout rate. Games like Cyclone, Stacker, Keymaster, etc. Stacker and Keymaster, where you put in a very expensive prize to draw people in (Xbox, PS4, Beats, etc.), we would set a 1/1000 payout rate. So we'd always be guaranteed to make money on it. My boss even told one of my coworkers before we opened for the day, to play Stacker until he wins. He literally played the game for 1.5 hours straight, won the game, so it reset the payout, so we wouldn't have to give out a prize for another month or whatever. Arcades are scams, simple as that. I honestly thought it was just common knowledge though, I'm surprised everybody doesn't know this.
Firelord Azula I worked in arcades and routes for more than 20 years. You manager didn't know the game very well. The play count can be reset in a menu in less than 30 seconds. He was also a fool because players notice that nothing ever gets won and they stop playing it. Games that people see a win on get played more. It's a case of giving up some money to make a lot more.
Rob Yagenmyer I'm not surprised you won. It must have been an operator that understood what it takes to keep people coming back to play it again (Or one that knows they may have to show the local police the game history and prove it's not being reset all the time)
Vending tech here, can confirm this. The high traffic places get the shaft on jackpot payout. Your best bet is the low traffic places where the game is less played but the odds are better in your favor. Word spreads quickly when a game has dished out a jackpot in say, a bowling alley.
Aww dammit no wonder the final block never worked
Some machines are loaned and you don't get to change anything, so you need people to play it endlessly to reset.
