My other guy friends do the same. My guy childhood friends bought me silver and gold pieces for birthdays. I only dated one and never did something innapropriate. With some of my male friends I became a Best man, with other I became a godmother to their children. I was there when they had breakups, married or ended up sick in the hospital. I don't have many friends but those I do are precious and more like older or younger brothers. I've been traveling with some as a group as well, I find Korea weird to think males and females can't be friends if someone is dating. It's the way you look at someone that is important. Yea it's too much. I've hung out and drank with guy friends, but they know I'm in a relationship and how serious I am about it. I had to end a friendship because he couldn't stop crossing the line with me and gave me gifts he knew would make my partner pissed. But everyone else is just happy for me and I'm just one of the guys talking sports and drinking beers otherwise. So it's possible. She just has to draw the line.

I think having male friends is not the issue, she could have them and hang out with them like she's been doing, and still make her boyfriend feel secure and respected. There are people who do this, but they actually practice consideration for their partners and make sure their partners are part of the equation. They make sure their partners feel their consideration, and they communicate clearly their priorities. The real problem here is the girl's mindset and attitude. They would not last long in a marriage.

Super late to this chat, but agreed. I commented something on here too, and many probably won't agree with it because it is unusual, but I couldn't have said it better myself. Relationships are about trust, respect, and boundaries among other things. I'm close with my ex and for about a year we lived together at school with our other friends. But at the same time we respected and still do respect each other's boundaries and new relationships because that's how it's supposed to be with any relationship.
I have a lot of male friends too and I go out with them once in a while under my boyfriend’s permission. He does have a lot of female friends too, way more than close male friends. HOWEVER, boundaries are clearly to be set and there’s DEFINITELY a fine line between treating your male friends and prioritizing your partner.
Throughout all of the various episodes of Happy Together I've watched so far, I'm really convinced and impressed that Choi Taejoon really is a quick-witted, observant and smart person. Respect.

I'm personally friends with guy friends, and I'm friends with one of my exes. I also lived with him and another guy friend and my own roomie who is a girl. Reason why, 1. we didn't work out together 2. the chemistry was bad 3. we're better as friends 4. we respect each other's boundaries and new relationships 5. we were mature enough to get past it Everyone has their own personal boundaries and yes, a majority of the time, I can understand why people would be uncomfortable with it, however, in my own personal experience, my ex and I are close and we work as friends. Nothing inappropriate or anything like that. People can disagree if they want and I can understand both points of view. I also don't see a problem with being friends with guys either or the opposite gender In this case specifically, no, it's not okay. I am honestly surprised at the amount of people saying that it isn't fine sleeping in the same room with a guy friend, like, people seem to have never had an actual opposite gender friend that was just that. Being in the same room or spending a lot of time with guy friends as a girl isn't wrong. I personally have more guy friends than girls, I love hugging them, and spending time with them. I stopped being so affectionate out of respect for my boyfriend, but he also learned to be more understanding of my actions, that they didn't mean any more than that, and that my friends also saw me as a little sister and nothing else. I do believe this girl had to change some things since she is in a relationship and they both have to find common ground. But I can't believe how many people don't seem to actually have friends that are only that.

We used to go camping together, go on trips where yes, we'd all stay in the same room. But if one of them had a girlfriend or if I was dating someone, there is NO way in hell that I'd even allow any of the nonsense that she's trying to justify. Boundaries are important even if you are only "just" friends because you respect and love the people you're friends with. She just likes male attention and drinking. It's not about real relationships/friendships.
They need to break up, shes the type of girl that loves male attention. I know lots like her, she hangs out with guys that either have a crush on her/liked her because she loves the attention and leasing guys on and some men love chasing girls. You can see how excited she got when she mentioned how her ex got her a gift, shes clearly enjoying this. This is also why she never mentions her bf because she doesnt like turning them off. Its not about friendship either, otherwise she could go drinking/tripping with some girlfriends. This is just gonna stress the man out and any future boyfriends

But you should have boundaries. Ditching your date because of friends is a no no. Travelling just the two of you is terrible. People would think she's easy because of these. I love u but i have one really close male friend and we've known each other for almost 14 years we literally are like brother and sister....what i said on my comment is that those friendships can "most probably" end up in an attraction, thus I am not sayin that it is impossible to have a male friend, it is just difficult to not develop any sort of attraction (but not impossible) and this segment is a proof of what i said since all of her friends are ex boyfriends.

For those who sides with the girl saying her bf needs to have trust in her. Love is not only about trust people. It's about compromises too. It makes me mad how trusting she is towards some of these guys. They could be all nice people but there will be some who take advantage of her sooner or later. I had a friend like her during my study abroad and she wouldn't tell people that she had a boyfriend when we went out for a drink. When I talked to her guy friends about her boyfriend, I was like them equally shocked since they didn't know that she was in a relationship. btw I still don't know how her boyfriend looks like and she even told me that they live together and thought about marriage and babies. She wanted to show me a picture when we were at a karaoke bar but she excused herself quickly and said she'll show me later when no one is around..wtf and she quickly abandoned the idea of having an early marriage when she made plenty guy friends later. Now, many would disagree with his concern but this is too much. Yes, she can meet with her guy friends but she honestly does too much. One she does not mention that she is in a relationship; that can lead to many things as well as her boyfriend not trusting her. Two, she puts her boyfriend aside even when they are together. Who would leave their significant other just to hang out with friends? That is not right. Three, she drinks with them till dawn. Now, not all guys are like this but most would take advantage of her or she can do something out of line. I personally think he should end his relationship with her but that is just my opinion.

I really feel sorry for this guy because I was in the same exact situation with my ex. I trusted my ex because we had been together for over eight years and thought she would never cheat on me..so stupidly I let her hang out with her male friends. Then I discovered her cheating on me and then found out she had been cheating on me for several years. So I ended that marriage. It absolutely devastated how much she didn't give a crap about me and my feelings and after our split I was extremely depressed for three years and drank heavily almost every night. I'm over her now and a much happier person..but man..it felt like I was that guy sitting up there and watching this made me so frustrated. There are better women out there for you buddy..I know this was three years ago..but I hope he found a better partner by now.
