    • Na I think it isn't... Riding also trails, with deep drops alongside the track but sometimes, if it's dangerous close..(20m-40m deep drops in fallen trees, cliffs the most people didn't survive) Have that situation often, I think about it. It isn't worth sometimes to risk ur life for short thrill.

    • You can tell it's a foot trail from the rope on the side. Really dumb because if there were people walking along the ridge and they had to stop suddenly it couldn've been a seriously bad day for them and innocent hikers. • Coming back to this a few times, and I think the most impressive thing about this video is just how much information your brain is processing doing something like this. Visual information has to be processed, recognizing things on and off the trail. Rapid decisions based on that. Balance information from your ears. Tactile information from your hands and feet about the terrain and bike itself. Deciding when to stiffen or relax muscles to handle bumps. Then all of the additional senses sending info. The sheer amount of information hitting you non-stop at high speed that has to be sorted, prioritized, decisions made and reactions sent out to the body... that's truly insane.

    @mycroft16@mycroft162 ай бұрын
    • Most of it is muscle memory. This is why they say you never forget how to ride a bike.

    • These are great points, really well said! Thank you.

      @Terra_Lopez@Terra_Lopez4 күн бұрын
    • @@DeadlyDan Oh, absolutely, much about the process of riding is offloaded to the brainstem and never even reaches the brain. But this is a trail they have never ridden before, so there's still an awful lot that is going to need processing. They may know how to avoid a rock, but they don't know where they are on this trail, nor are they aware ahead of time how wide, steep, other obstacles, etc. So that's all going to have to come from real time processing. And that need will cause a much higher release of adrenaline to aid in that with its seeming time dilation effects on awareness. Which is likely why expert riders seek out new trails... to get that higher "rush" feeling again. After the 4th or 5th time down, they've got the trail down and most of it is offloaded to the brainstem again.

  • Very irresponsible (and in most European countries, including Switzerland, also illegal) to use hiking paths for MTB driving. Behind some of those corners there could've been a hiker going up and you wouldn't have a chance to see him first or react appropriately. • you can see Grand Randonnee markings (red and white) along the track - that is definitely a hiking trail. hopefully they did scout ahead and warned upcoming hikers - if not they were lucky that Swiss law enforcement didn't catch them. [edit] second part seems to be a proper mountain bike trail.

      @alphaniner3770@alphaniner37708 ай бұрын
    • @@alphaniner3770 In Switzerland, France and Italy trails with these markings are generaly shared between hikers and bikers as long as the bikers prioritise the hikers. In Austria and Germany rules have gone more strict because of repeated conflicts between hikers and bikers. It is a fine equilibrium and shooting down the trails at speed on your back wheel, skidding through tight corners with blocked rear wheel and cutting corners through fields will not help this situation. Cool in a bike park but not on the trail. It will cause the community to close the trail for bikers and that will stay forever.

    • Also, I am not sure whether bikes are allowed on these waterways ("bisses"), especially on narrow ones like Bisse d’Ayent, Niwärch, Gorperi, Wyssa… I hiked the Bisse d’Ayent once and such an encounter with crazy bikers would not have been a pleasant experience, to say the least. 😡 Elsewhere, I don’t mind.

    • In general I do not want to be the one complaining as I do creazy things myself (climbing, hiking), but this does not look like a bike route. Like whatever, but mixing hikers and bikers on one route is not the best idea. And you can always find adrenaline on a prepared track with exposition, while not fighting with the route as much... If this is indeed a bike route, the preparation is slightly off I guess :P

They would have either driven themelves over the cliff or killed the other person, no way they could have stopped in time nor enough place to evade. Just selfish and stupid behavior. If they endanger themselves fine, if they endanger others then ban them from riding.

    • @Skank_and_Gutterboy Are you people all Karen's or something? Jail time for riding bikes in a mountain where no one else is at? Even if there were people there hiking, they would have slowed down. If people should be arrested for enjoying the outdoors, then you should be arrested for being a Karen and crying over stupid shit. In fact I think it's about time we pass laws outlawing Karen's along with their stupidity. If someone wants to ride their bike along a cliff and then fall to their death that's on them. We were given free will for a reason but it's obvious you people are too stupid to understand that or the fact that we don't actually die so it doesn't matter.

  • i was born and live in this region (VALAIS) and love mountainbiking myself, and had made a comment earlier on how 100% stupid this was.... but had to find out that this actually IS an official mtb trail now... ???😮😢 i do hope i am wrong. will investigate more. anyway, i STILL do think most of those "water/tunnel-trails" in our region should be reserved for hikers ONLY, as an 'encounter' between hikers and bikers along those narrow and dangerous trails (it is NOT the wide-angle that makes it look that scary... they ARE!) leads to VERY risky situations... also for others!!! ESPECIALLY (!!!) if the bikers ride as recklessly fast as the guys in that clip....... in many places on these very narrow high up and exposed centuries-old "bisses" or "suonen" as they are called, there simply isn't enough space to get past one another safely (or sometimes AT ALL, i guess) if there is a MOUNTAIN BIKE involved.....! and there is a reason why over the last 600-700 years or so, up until the mid-20th century, many many men had to lose their lives building (and each spring repairing) the hundreds of kilometres of these "water ways"... but those men back then HAD TO risk their lives (as opposed to the "fun chill awesome dudes" in this clip...) as the villages and people and animals and the farmland in the villages 100% depended on the waters coming from the far-away glaciers high up in the many valleys of our region. it is totally crazy, to me at least, to see that today, people do freely risk their not-so-dear lives on these "bisses", for "fun" or simply to impress, to test their "limits", for a thrill ride or some clicks... because: no matter how good and skilled and experienced and "chill" a rider and bro and dude you are, on THESE trails, especially at THIS SPEED, ONE single false 'step' or little turn on your bike, or any kind of unexpected 'event' along your 'fun ride', and you are GONE! gone FOR GOOD. i do know many, many of these trails, including the ones around crans-montana, as an avid hiker and nature-lover, though. the last mountain bike rider i remember who was not only injured etc. but who actually died on one of those "bisse" hiking trails was in july 2022. they found him almost 200 metres below the place where he had lost control. there are plenty very thrilling and kind of risky and 'fun' bike trails in the valais without the stupid risk involved in this clip.... good to see that at least in SOME of the super dangerous parts even you fearless and awesome guys had the courage and intelligence to climb off your bike....... everyone wanting to 'copy' this and go to the valais or crans-montana but NOT wanting to plummet to their deaths riding the "bisse"-parts of this bike trail should do the same.... get OFF their bikes. but for the WHOLE part of the super-narrow "bisse".... a few centimetres of rocky ground in the middle, a rockface on the right, and an abyss on your left.... no need, really, to risk your life or THE LIFE OF OTHER PEOPLE. by the way, why not give HIKING these "bisses" a go next time...? that way you might even REALLY SEE some of the awesome scenery and surroundings, but 'in the moment'... not later on a screen, in your gopro clip. happy trails!

  • That looks fun - if a little sketchy in places. It's hard to tell through that lens how technical it actually is. Given that a guide takes normal bikers down there I presume it's not as bad as it looks. Big dropoffs are always a bit worrying on a bike - whilst no problem at all on foot. I've seen a few things I've actually been down on youtube (couple of canyons and the Camino Del Rey) and they are generally made to look much worse than the reality .
