This needs to be redone where there is actually traction to determine the winner. Tyres and ground surface will have a big impact here.

Static friction is harder to overcome than kinetic friction. Once the Isuzu helped the Toyota get the Merc moving it was able to keep doing it without the Isuzu’s help and with less power because together they had already overcome the Mercs static friction (i.e. it’s harder to get something moving from a stand still than it is to keep something moving)

I think with this sort of thing is more down to tyres than weight.
@@montro-city9920 partially correct, but with tyres as a multiplying factor. Grip = weight x coefficient of friction. It's a lot easier to have a big proportional change in friction with slightly better tyres than making a big change to weight. The difference between 1800kg and 2000kg is only an 11% increase in grip but a slight difference in tread can easily have 50% more grip on slick mud. Probably more. Tyres will make a bigger difference than weight, trust me.

You need an explanation for this? - different tires - different surface quality - once the wheels are spinning the torque and horse power is irrelevant

@TurboDuckHeadHD In HD I guess not. Once the wheels are spinning it doesn't matter how much torque the car has since it isn't able to put in into the ground. As long as you have traction torque is king of course.

@@elysiumf1634 Well, they did, and it worked. The controversy about the design made it on news, over 200k pre orders in few days. They wanted to get into a huge market with specific demographic where trucks looked the same for a hundred of years and they kind of did it. Also looks is not that important when they have that kind of numbers under the skin.

Once the Xclass started moving backwards and the Toyota had the momentum with assistance from the Izuzu, it was all over. Pretty sure if you tried the same with the Xclass or Izuzu in the Toyota's spot, it would provide a similar result. Once you start pulling, it makes it extremely difficult for the competing truck to overcome.

@@carwow the only reason why the Hilux managed to pull so nice, was that its wheels were NOT spinning. spinning makes the coefficient of friction reduce a little bit (from "static friction "to "dynamic friction" which is always lower). So, the middle pickup was not affecting anything, the Mercedes was spinning horribly (moving backwards and spinning wheels forward) and it lost some of its traction, and the Hilux had full traction (not spinning). This test is purely a grip test, and the force of pull will be higher with better mud tires or higher vehicle weight. in the beginning when there was a tie between the Isuzu and Mercedes, putting more and more people in the back of one of them would eventually improve its traction force enough to make it start pulling the other pickup. By the way, its not a matter of horsepower at all. horsepower is the ability of the vehicle to generate force even when at higher and higher speeds (higher and higher gears). since the speed is ZERO there is no need for horspower. a regular old Tractor, with good grip but only 20hp would easily win.
Hiluxes are pretty good but they are definitely overrated

The reverse gear has an even lower gear ratio than all the forward gears, it's why if you are too underpowered to make it up an incline, you put your car in reverse and haul whatever you're hauling up a hill. So that Hilux has an added advantage from the get go

Carwow.. My god, using the towballs to tow between the Dmax and Merc, and then the Hilux towing in reverse gear. So much stupid in this vid. Please no one do anything like this in real life. If one of those tow balls came loose and hit Mat in the head while he jumped out it would be certain death. Use shackles.
Hilux is build to tow in reverse because there is no tow hook at the back..the rope will hook at the back of another car and it will go reverse
@@aaronlfcynwa2951 No its not, it's just the tow hitch wasn't fitted for this demo. In every other world market they are able to tow. Reverse gear is the weakest gear in your gearbox,, not designed for towing at all. Common sense not to tow in reverse.

In Australia the dmax has a 188hp 430nm 3.0 4cyl and Hilux 2.8 4cyl 180 440nm. The Holden Colorado would be Close to by Merc V6 as 200hp and 500nm. 2.8 cyl
