Why is the Rubik's Cube so Hard -- Episode 2
My facebook: / redkb.fb My twitter: / kennethbrandon
In this video I attempt to explain how many more positions there are on a V-Cube 7x7x7 than a Rubik's Cube 3x3x3.
FAQ:
1. What's a duoquinquagintillion?
A. In Short Scale a Duoquinquagintillion is 1x10^159 So 19 Duoquinquagintillion is 1.9x10^160
2. You're wrong! The number of positions is 9,501 sexvigintillion or 19.5 sexvigintilliard.
A. In Long Scale you are correct! But in Short Scale 19.5 duoquinquagintillion is also correct. Short Scale is used in the United States and modern British. Long scale is Traditional British and European.
3. Isn't there more than one solved position??
A: Yes, however the 19 duoquinquagintillion only contains discernible positions. This includes only 1 solved position.
4. This can't be right because a bunch of those 19 duquinquagintillion are potions you could never turn to. They are positions in which you would have to disassemble and reassemble the cube. So the number should be far less.
A: Only positions achievable through turning are counted in the 19 duoquinquagintillion otherwise the number would be much much much larger.
Math:
For the 3x3:
4.3x10^19 Carbon atoms = .85mg (Math at 1:15)
For the 7x7:
There are 1.95x10^160 or 19 duoquinquagintillion positions in a 7x7.
According to: www.universetoday.com/36302/at... There are between 10^78 and 10^82 atoms in the universe. I used 10^80 because it worked well with my calculations.
So if you had 10^80 universes full of 10^80 atoms each, that would give you a total of 10^160 atoms, which is roughly the number of positions in a 7x7. My instagram: / red.kb
Here's the gear I'm using:
bit.ly/RedKB-Gear
I did some math checking, and it's right (sorry I'm a nerd and I wanted to make sure) 19 duoquinquagintillion is equal to 19 x 10^159 There are 10^80 atoms in the observable universe (19 x 10^159) / (10^80) = 1.9 x 10^80 well done my friend
If a universe is an atom, it takes a whole universe-atom universe to represent all the possibilities for the 7x7x7
you took it why farther than my level :D
What about in the unobservable universe
Close enough
pretty sure that is it
You should do a 17x17
nope a 22x22
what about a 1000x1000? It may not exist, but he can still do the math.
plezzz do it
what about a duoquinquagintillion x duoquinquagintillion?
what about infinity x infinity?
idk why I am watching this video after 6yrs, but all I have to say is, this video still blows my mind as it did in 2016 when I was obsessed with your channel, you remind me of my childhood Kenneth do what you do man its all love ❤️
Duoquinquagintillion appearently isn't a word according to auto correct
William Irvin (
William Irvin douquinquagintillion is also not In my auto correct
yes but sextillion isn't a real word according to auto correct either
William Irvin duocuagodacuagotagatelotagatalaliatitonicaminafelacaloxiducxiollateitroxiflicsiatiduoqu is aperantly on my Autocorrect, IDK Why
@Steve Nugget well QUATTUORQUINQUAGINTAOCTINTEGINTILLION is a word in my autocorrect
Okay now I am really proud that I can solve a 7 by 7
That's just a theory...A RUBIKS THEORY thanks for watching ;)
Annnnnnddd..... Cut.
😂 I wonder what matpat would say about this
I know were you got that from
Game theory
More like Thats just a theory a Cube theory
That's brilliant work man.. Never thought the way you did.. Keep going and share your thoughts... I would really enjoy that..
wow Kenneth you really changed my view for cubes i never really thought about it like that thank you :)
it's a good thing I know my numbers from adventure capitalist
Same
OMG SAME
Lol same

What about Oskar's 17x17?
Jan Lin 17x17s are not mass produced
Creepy_ Cuber So...
Jan Lin 22x22 tho not mass produced

bunny boy so, 66.9 Quinkilovigintillion? (Yes, that is made up, but goes along the lines of the previous numbers)
Congrats on 300k subs man! :D
Please do more of this series. Its very great. Really enjoied this video.
Hi Kenneth Can you make a 'Episode 3' with another puzzle e.g The Megaminx or The Dogic Have a Happy New Year ;D
Boooooom! 🎆 Mind fuqing blown! That's mental dude. All those numbers, I can't even imagine anything bigger than a million so... Well... Great job, but I'm still confused! Great job, keep up the good work!
You did a very good job Kenneth. Very cool and interesting
Makes you really acknowledge how great humans ability to recognize patterns to create things like methods and algorithms and of course intuition to organize that amount of positions in such a way some can do it in sub 10 seconds. It shows us really how amazing the mind really is.
Make a third episode about the 17x17.
Yottaminx.
The 17x17 actually has 66.9 quinquagintatrecentillion possible positions. That's actually 66.9x10^1054 :D
he Danish Vocalist word up, son/preach it sister
The Rubik's cube isn't hard, we're all just stupid :D
Exactly. Most people do not have the brain for that kind of stuff...
@@freyawyttthegoddessandchip7764 Are you joking? You can learn to solve the rubiks cube in a few hours, you just need to memorise a few short sequences of moves.
Blazertron I think he meant without any external help or algorithms found by others.
@@BlazertronGames I said that 5 years ago, also I have an entire collection of Rubik's cube and was at one point very into them and my fastest solve was just under 20 seconds
@@AznUzer Yeah, I don't know why I didn't think about that.
This was EPIC. Please do more vids like this.
Please more! I really enjoyed this video. Very nice.
u have one thing wrong - there r more then one solve positions! cuz some peaces r same and can swich places and u wont even see it :) just saying
Check number 3 in the description. ;)
lol, i looked at description but did see that one xD im so bad so... there is like 1000x more positions u can run into O.o wow
Can you English?
+RedKB what about the permutations of the center pieces? Not the ones diagonal to the actual center, but any other centers? Can't you misplace them?
I think that if it was a sudoku 7x7 with numbers 1-49 on each side, it would be correct.
RedKB Could you please do the difficulty of a 2x2? This is a really interesting series, please do some more of it.
I'll start off. The amount of positions in a 2x2 is 264,539,520.
lamo543 oh cool
3.6 million combinations are on a 2x2
I love these types of Rubik's cube videos.
Please make more vids like this!! Amazing Video!
I 'd bet God can One-look any of these cubes and solve them in less than a nanosecond.
don't be silly, for that to happen, a god would have to exist first
By many religions such as my own, Christianity, there is indeed a God. But let's not have a religious battle. It was a bit of a joke, don't take it so seriously! Have a good day man!
Don't expect him to understand that, in order for him to get a joke, a brain would need to exist in his head.
PenguinMercy :D
Funny!
what about the 17x17?
What about the Yottaminx? That's almost twice the amount of pieces as the 17x17x17.
he Danish Vocalist hvor mange kombinationer er der så på en Yottaminx? Jeg kan godt dansk
Pas? Jeg består kun lige matematik, jeg ved det ikke. Foreslog bare at Yottaminxen var større and Over The Top.
he Danish Vocalist Hvor mange lag er der på en yottaminx?
Cubeboy. tror der er 15. Alligevel er det den største, og den har dobbelt så mange stykker som en 17x17 ville have.
These are so entertaining please do a bigger one i would instantly sub
You just blew my mind into 19duoquinquagtillion pieces. Subscribed.
cooldude 4172 *19 duoquinquagintillion
do one for the 17x17x17
Maxius Breaks 289 because 17x17 is 289

Awesome!! Enjoyed this vid a lot really cool!!
You are awesome. Completely blowing my mind!
what about 11x11? i've solved one of those
BandedCubing101 yea
EZ
How many universes do we need for a petaminx ?
***** The triple fused petaminx is actually deceptively easy, since none of the pieces from the other petaminxes can cross over to the over petaminx, thus making it easy for those who can solve a petaminx.
Nice drawings. And even nicer video. I salute you.

DUDE! I LOVE YOUR SKATEBOARD ON THE WALL!!! whered you get it??
You are the best red kb ever
It's only The 7x7. Just think about The 17x17! :-P
Think of the Yottaminx.
Yes
The 17x17 actually has 66.9 quinquagitatrecentillion positions (I Hope I Spelled it right) That's actually more than 10^1000 :D
the cube is so hard because every sticker is combined with another sticker, so you have to put every single sticker into its perfect place without messing the other sides up
What?
STICKER PEELER!!!!!! ;)
Make more of those, they are awesome
You should do the 17x17x17 by OskarsPuzzles. I think that would be very interesting, and funny, and cool! Please reply, your video's are awesome! Have a great day Kenneth! :D
holy s@#$% thats alot.............
What about the 28x28???
+Exile in theroy
+Exile I know it was fake, I was talking about doing calculations to find out
7x7 to the power of 4?
Dude. You need to be my teacher. Youre awesome. And i actually listened to the whole video
very impressed by this video. good job!
The best explanation of how hard a cube can be
Absolutely amazing! But the only problem I see is that there is not just 1 solve for a 7x7. There are 25 center pieces on one face you have to build, only 1 is fixed, the other 24 can be in any order because they are all the same color.
You should do an episode 3 on the 17x17! That would be really cool!
There are many "solved" combinations on a 7x7x7 due to the exchangeable nature of many of the pieces. Because each side is of one solid color several pieces can unknowingly be switched undetected. So there is many possible solved combinations
Taught me a lot. Both videos!
wow. very cool... What exactly is your education level? You lost me way early on but you're very engaging and I still watched till the end - kudos!
Very-very good video!
That was both amazing and terrifying.
Great video dude! Do the 17x17!!! That would be, heh heh, OVER THE TOP!! xD
Very clever and funny, continue your videos.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS LITERALLY JAW DROPPING!
i watched this 8 times and im blown away
I'm glad you noticed! ;)
Do more I love these
It's about the mathematical relationships between each component. You have to think of the Cube as a series of pieces rather than a series of stickers, and know how those pieces move in relation to one another. It takes a special kind of mind to understand such things.
Question: How do you get the 3x3 and 7x7 into those positions at 4:00?
Man , you`re a GENIUS .
Amazing calculations
Nice art :D
What math would you have liked me to have shown? The number of permutations on a Rubik's Cube and a V-Cube 7 are known numbers. The number of atoms in the visible universe has been estimated by people much smarter than me. All I'm doing in this video is comparing these big numbers.
holy shit :o but yeah, that part about the perm number and the difficulty usually just means it takes longer, when you know how, and not necessarily gets harder in another way
I can see Orion!! Nice job!
YOU DREW ACTUAL ELECTRON ORBITALS I LOVE YOU
PLEASE MAKE MORE OF THESE!!!!!
What about interchaneable pieces like outer centers? Does that number exclude permutations with these pieces alone?
I think the Atom that represents a 7x7 is either Carbon( you used it in the video ) or uranium or einsteinium
This is exactly why I don't mess with Rubiks cubes. I would like to see the math on the 17x17x17 though
Hey RedKB , how many permutations/patterns do a 14x14 have, i wanna see that in the next "Why is the Rubiks Cube so hard" video :))
+RedKB YOU ARE SMART!!
Wouldn't it be alot less because if you swap two red centers it's technically in another posistion but its the very same thing? Correct me if i'm wrong but wouldn't there be many positions that are exactly alike except the pieces just change places? Great videos anyhow! :D
nice job im in 6th grade but i wish i had all learning videos like this again good job ! : )
I subscribed just from this :)
how many possible combinations for the 7x7x7 if you put the corners and edges in all the places possible?
omfg when I watched this it made my brain heart it made me think about those painfully confusing time paradox movies
RedKB should be a scientist right now or already because he's so very smart and intelligent.
I was fascinating by the science behind all that wow those are some skills
this video is awsome
