1 HP CHALLENGE Paper Mario: The Origami King IMPOSSIBLE CHALLENGE?
Is it possible to beat Paper Mario: The Origami King with just 1 HP? How far can we get in regular gameplay of Paper Mario: The Origami King with just 1 HP? Can we make it to the final boss? The first boss? Can we even get through the first tutorial?
In this video, we try a very difficult challenge: we play Paper Mario: The Origami King with Mario having only 1 HP. We try to face every boss that we can by playing through the game as far as we can, starting from the beginning of the game and playing until either the end of the game OR it's not possible to continue. We see a few "Game Over" screens.

@Tiger Art Great question! I've played the first two games (on the N64 and TTYD), and I really loved both of those. I also really enjoyed The Origami King, and it's so fun to make videos about and explore what's possible in the game. I still have to play the other Paper Mario games :) I've heard people say that a TTYD remake where you play as Luigi and do the adventure that he has in TTYD with his partners would be cool, I'd LOVE to play that!

Honestly, the whole "No Damage" bonus that you get after you beat an enemy/boss just feels unnecessary and pointless, there are some battle in the game that you CAN'T do a "No damage run" at, if blocking is a way of "No Damage" that would be a different story but you still take damage even if you blocked.
That's a good observation, it's funny that it's impossible to get a "no damage" bonus in some fights. And it's too bad that there's no way to negate damage by blocking
It would be nice if a frame-perfect block negated all damage. That would make no-damage runs possible for challenge-seekers, but still too difficult for "just block everything" to be a valid substitute for normal strategy in regular play.

I like how it impossible to beat the Earth Velemental without taking damage but it is possible to beat it with only 1HP thanks to the 1UP mushroom
Hey ZXMany, remember that weird glitch I talked about in a previous video? Now I discovered how it works and you can try it on your own now! Below is the explanation. Step 1: To make the glitch easier to pull off, it's a good idea that you have only the normal boots and hammer equipped. (Not necessary) Step 2: (Advice): the glitch won't work in battles where you can only line up the enemies in a 1x4 position. Step 3: (Advice): the game needs to auto - select the hammer by loking onto a 2x2 row. Step 4: Enter a battle and line up the enemies. (Make sure that there's a 4x4 line up, as said above). Step 5: During the time the "Great line up! Attack power up!" or whichever message you get, make sure to hold up on the Left stick. As the action page opens up, you'll see that the game switched to boots from the hammer because of your input, but the red light things that show the targets are still in a 4x4 formation. Final step: Confirm the boots, then see the magic happen! (Maybe you can show this to people with a video as well).

This is the time where pulling off a satisfying block against an attack won't help you.

Nice! Out of all I think the staplers the hardest one to do a 1 hp fight of unless you have a really good guard plus.
1ST TIP You can actually get away from those rats when you are trying to drain the water. After like, I think a chat with olivia? Go to the ladder and don’t hammer the hole. The rats will come. Wanted to inform you ZXMany, also ur great! 2ND TIP (NOT FROM PMTOK) This has nothing to do with PMTOK and stuff to do with YCW. If you do well times A B’s, you can gain height. Or let go when yoshi flys high enough the press A again.

Hey there! Were you able to avoid fighting the rats? I tried not hammering the hole and Olivia says something about the rats doing a dance near the red valve, but I wasn't able to get the 1000-fold-arm circle without fighting the rats

It’s a pretty good game but a lot of people like it more than I do.
The funny thing is if you were to try this in the first 2 Paper Mario it would be difficult at the start but once you get the danger badges it would pretty much be easy mode
Yeah, exactly! A lot of strategies in speedruns use peril strats where you purposefully keep Mario at 1 HP so that he does more damage with the Mega Rush badge! I wonder if the Goomba King can be completed with just 1 HP in Paper Mario
@ZXMany Yeah and you don´t even have to set it up which make it way easier. And i do believe this challenge can be done in TTYD but im not so sure about the original Paper Mario. Goombe King can be beaten in 2 turns and with Close Call you can evade his attack with a little of Luck. The battle agains the Red and Blue Goomba is more annoying because they attack more and you have to rely on the RNG of Close Call but it can be done with luck. But the main problem is going to be Jr Troopa because you don´t have any badges by then and you have to beat him so idk if there´s even a way. The main problem is the you don´t have many options in Prologue and in TTYD you can guard from the start so you can take no damage until you get danger badges but in the N64 game you can´t do that until chapter 1.

10 or 15 might be enough to pass the Water Vellumental! Rubber Band is going to be really tough: the special attack at the start of phase 2 does almost 50 damage if you block it. I have a video where we face every boss at 50 HP if you're interested!

If we're allowed to use 1-up mushrooms, defence battle accessories, and even HP battle accessories, it might be surprisingly low, since I didn't use 1-up mushrooms in the 50 HP video I think
@@ZXMany Me, I would say around 40 or 50 HP with the 1up mushroom with battle accessories on because I remember in the video one attacted 48 HP so I would say somewhere around that.

It's very funny how you can beat the final boss King Olly with 1 HP, but you can't beat some rubber bands, or a Hole Puncher

Thanks for the comment! I might make a video about that :) Popirea, one of the top boss speedrunners of the game, had a tweet recently where they shared which bosses are the hardest, I thought that might be cool to look at too
The lamination suit that you get later in the game might make avoiding battles a little easier.
The thing is that suit has a limited battery and it would be kind of inconvenient to continually go back to the sensor lab to keep recharging it
I have an idea for bosses: maybe somehow you could hack in the games codes so the bosses won’t do any damage or try getting a ton of guard plus badges

For him it’s psychological. He knows with one head you’ll have to redo the entire overlook tower all over again so almost every time the nerves just get to him

What I do for the raining pencils is use an umbrella because it blocks them when they all fall down.
So... it's basically Peril Mario: The Origami King. And oh my goodness this was released on my birthday, a year ago! ... i think this was before i know you.
Fun fact: you can hammer the umbrellas when they're opened/closed, and use them for protection from the simp sons reference missiles

I think with 1 HP and a 1-up mushroom we can also beat Handaconda with just hammering it, because we'd only get attacked once if we get every Rock-Paper-Scissors round correctly!

The scissors is possible turn 1: break cover with 1000 folded arms then keep dodging and using hammer and items ( the scissors cut the magic circles)

There is actually a question on my mind about if you have 1 hp and there is a multi hit attack can you block all of them or after you get hit you can’t block anymore?
You can only block the first one, yeah :) You can't block anymore after you're at 0/1 HP

You can hammer the umbrellas on the outside deck to open them again and use them as a shield for the missiles. Also, I apologize for changing the total comments from 420 to 421.
Thanks so much for the comment! Sometimes multiple missiles would aim at the umbrella, one missile would close the umbrella, and the second missile would hit Mario before you're able to open the umbrella again 😭 I found it easier to keep running around, but hammering the umbrellas could work too!
I have a similar idea to your rire velemental challenge, and thats if its possible to beat the rubber band boss by only taking out its bumpers as they take off its hp. (Tapes does a self dmg thing but he can swipe the board and restore his hp)

We did that in my video where we test out what the POW block does to every boss :) Nothing damages the rubber band in phase 1 when it has 1 HP left except for the 1000-fold-arm attack, and it eventually stops damaging itself, similar to the fire vellumental! Phase 2 of the fight is similar, you need the 1000-fold-arm attack to finish it off

I'm not aware of either of those yet, but there are some things in The Origami King that people are working on with duplicate Bobbys that help you get out of bounds easily. We'll see more updates in the future :)
