Paul Muad'dib Atreides (Suite) | Dune: Part Two (OST) by Hans Zimmer

Paul Atreides, the protagonist of the first two Dune movies by Denis Villeneuve, is one of the most fascinating characters that has been put to screen in recent sci-fi movies, thanks to the incredible portrayal by Timotheé Chalamet and obviously the solid foundation of Frank Herbet's novels. The idea to split the first novel in two cinematic chapters gave to Denis and also the actor Timotheé Chalamet to dive deeper into his character, add more nuanches and emotional complexity to the character, and explore with more accuracy his vengeful path and his rise as the Kwisatz Haderach / Lisan al-Gaib.
In this video I kept a good portion of my original suite for Paul Atreides, but I expanded it with the additional music that Hans Zimmer wrote for 'Part Two' and including in this montage a lot of musical elements from my previous Kwisatz Haderach suite and the Holy War theme (featured in "Eclipse" and "Southern Messiah"). Paul's iconic theme has also found a fresh life with the new variations for the film in tracks like "You Fough Well", "Arrival" and "Travel South", all of which convey a visceral, powerful and intimitating tone to the music - and it's perfectly coherent with Paul's development in the movie since he fully embraces his identity as Lisan al-Gaib and leads the Fremen to war against the Harkonnen and the Emperor himself.

I know the track is pretty good, but I find very difficult to make a smooth transition between this and other soundtrack, especially in an action-packed suite like this one. • I don't necessarily think there is a correct order to show a character's journey through music. Maybe my original Paul Atreides video reflects better what you mean, even though it had only music from Part One. I actually reused a good portion of it starting from "Herald of Change" at 6:52, but because the original video become so popular and I really didn't want to repeat myself so closely, I prefered to have a different start for this new suite and setting a more intimidating/ominous tone right from the beginning.

  • I dont know how You feel guys, but the ending of the Part II was somewhat terrifying to me. A "holy war" is coming, millions will die, just because this group of sisters and mothers deemed Paul a better emperor. Truly a dramatic way to present what horrors feudalism is bringing upon humankind for millenia.

    • No? Paul's jihad dismantles feudalism because it's incompatible with the totalitarian rule he needs to establish, feudalism gives far more local representation than people assumes because the whole point is to delegate power. The problem of feudalism is the lack of social mobility, it usually avoided devastating wars inside the system

      @BenderSnake@BenderSnakeАй бұрын
    • Im not sure if Paul really wants a totalitarian rule. But at this point who cares? Paul was just another figure on a grand board of political games. The real message here is that as long as there is spice, there will be wars for it. Wars fought by the masses on the command of unworhty people. If humanity cannot break this cycle, humankind will be doomed forever.@@BenderSnake

    • He can be both, I think. Yes, he becomes evil towards the end, but narratively speaking we always follow him and he is leading the story. So for me it's fair to see him both as a Protagonist and Antagonist.

      @Tim_S_Lucas@Tim_S_Lucas2 ай бұрын
    • The protagonist is always the main character, good or evil doesn't actually factor into the definition. Antagonists are whatever opposes the protagonist, it too can be good, evil, or just a force.
