Carving a Bear out of Epoxy Resin and Wood
I poured 9 gallons of epoxy resin along with various species of wood and power carved it into a bear sculpture. I first milled walnut, mahogany, white oak, poplar, redwood and pine. I used various woodworking tools to get them all identical in thickness. I then used Mas epoxy 'Deep pour X' to pour all 9 gallons of resin over the course of 3 weeks. Once cured, I carved the massive block by using a chainsaw, angle grinder, die grinder and various sanding tools. There were a lot of challenges along the way but I am beyond pumped with how this sculpture turned out. Let me know what you guys think in the comments! #woodcarving #sculpture #howto

@@BMSculptures do you sell these?
its already in a museom its called white bear by François Pompon which was made in 1928... The skill is amazing. The originality isn't
@@pteys1429 the only common thing with that sculpture is that they are both bears. I prefer this one though.
@@betterbelikeme its literally the same shape, and position. Mona lisa with a hat would still be a copy. Or an hommage but never more.
This has to be one of the most amazing sculptures I have ever seen. Just brilliant. Beautiful.
Gorgeous!!!
I’m completely blown away. So impressed and inspired. Thank you and congratulations!!!
That is one of the most amazing sculptures I've seen. That looks incredible.
This is so cool! Im always mesmerized on the sheer talent artists such as yourself have. Its truly a gift being able to do things like this. Amazing!
Absolutely beautiful! Great job!!
Gorgeous!
Absolutely amazing workmanship! Gotta love what you’re doing, and I’m sure the finished product gives much pride and relief.
Thank you! Yes I am very happy with how this one turned out.
Absolutely amazing! Well done!
Wow! This is amazing!
This was the first video I've watched on your channel and I'm blown away! That's crazy cool! I'm currently taking a CAM class in school and this would be a perfect kind of project to carve out some wood for!
Dude! Knocked it out of the park again with this one! I can't imagine how nerve racking it is starting to shape him after all that work going into prepping that massive block. He turned out great! Nice work, my man....nice work.
Thanks so much Gary! Yes I was so scared of messing it all up with the chainsaw. Surprisingly the epoxy can carve fairly well with out cracking.
Beautiful! I would have loved to watch the entire buffing process. To me that's the most satisfying step to watch.
Incredibly gorgeous. Thank you Blake!
Absolutely beautiful. I'm inspired to pick up again the woodcarving kit my parents bought me when I was 10!
Go for it! Thanks Heather!
You are a true artist I love your work ❤️❤️❤️
Gorgeous work, great job!
Great Piece! Gorgeous!!
Absolutely gorgeous, from all the "wood and epoxy" projects I've seen on KZhead, this is the only one worth it ! Congrats.
Amazing skill
Thank you!!
Absolutely beautiful ❤️. Keep doing what you do 👏
Absolutely gorgeous!
That's beautiful!!! Probably one of the best epoxy builds i've seen so far, great work!!!
Thank you so much Marc
This is easily one of the most beautiful epoxy resin and wood sculptures I've seen. Amazing work!

An absolutely beautiful masterpiece, a fascinating process, and lots and lots of hard work.
Thank you so much!
Just occasionally see this vid in my recommendations and I completely stunned by your work! Speechless… literally I have no words to describe how amazing it looks! I wish you a great success in what you are doing! Such videos definitely deserve more people to watch it!
Glad you got to see it! Thank you so much!

Thank you so much!

Ur art is amazing ! Love seeing u built from scratch.
This was the coolest thing I've seen in a while. I wish smaller versions of this existed to buy as a desk decoration etc.
Might be able to get one commissioned

I have zero interest in sculptures, but this…this I would buy…for myself! Awesome sculpture! 👍🏽😎

I just love every detail there, so much to see, so much happening, just beautiful :-)
Thank you so much!
I always loved sanding...to see something smooth to a shine is so satisfying!
That is absolutely amazing! Beautifully done! You made that look a whole lot easier than it was. Just the 9 gallons of epoxy resin would have had me a nervous wreck and unable to carve it out of fear of screwing it up! There's no way I'd trust myself taking a chainsaw to it! This is my first time visiting your channel and I hit all the buttons so I'll be on a binge watching more!

That was awesome. I really appreciate the effort and artistic skill this takes, because I wasn't a carver until my grandkids started wanting Pokémon characters. First they wanted a Pikachu, and then a Charizard, and a great white shark in the mix too. I coated the shark in clear epoxy but with glow in the dark pigments so it turned out REALLY ominous and sinister like an albino shark. The Charizard has roughly 100 hours in it - carving everything out of oak pallet wood. And I gave all the characters magnetic arms (fins for the shark) so you can articulate them, swap them - do whatever with them (including lose them too unfortunately :( ) . But the grandkids are happy, and I can replace whatever they lose. I love the bear though! I wish I had the artistic part you have. I can carve but the real life objects (shark, tulips, dolphin) look off. You nailed it however.
wow, your grandkids are very lucky!

Thank you so much Stephen!
Wow. Incredible!
I have never seen anything so beautiful! Ever!
that is one of the most amazing pieces of art that I have ever seen. I want one like that so bad
Thank you so much!
Is there a randomness included in the way you choose the different woods in length and color or do have an excat vision of the outcome. Love your skills and the result. Respect.
I have been lucky enough to see 4 of your videos now and everyone of them has left me speechless. Please keep going and don't stop.
So beautiful, wow. Amazing job.
Absolutely amazing!!! You, sir, are an incredible visionary and artist. Thank you very much for sharing your gift with the world. I am a new subscriber!!!
Thank you so much Dante! Welcome aboard
Man, this is an incredible piece. I absolutely love the way you used these materials and kept the design clean and fluid without too many details. First vid I see of your channel and already subscribed, this inspires me a lot. Keep it up!
Thank you so much Mus. It was by design to not make it detailed. If I were to detail out the face and fur, I would have lost the translucent part of the epoxy. Thanks for subbing!
You did such a great job! A true craftsman - bravo!
That is stunning!!
Isso sim é uma OBRA DE ARTE.
i make this kind of art in college, and i really understand your fear to mess up, cos it takes time and not cheap, you are doing a great job here, sweet masterpiece!

That thing is amazing. I love how the transition from wood to resin looks so flawless. Omg how much would you even charge someone for something like that
Thank you Chad!
You're happy, the client is happy, and most importantly, the bear is happy!! Nicely done Blake!!
So beautiful. I'm so happy I found this channel today.

Thanks so much Melissa! I would say its about 100 total hours or so on this piece.
I hope the one day he do a dragon sculpture
@@BMSculptures I'm guessing cost to the customer was about $4000 or higher?
Gorgeous ... well done 👍👍👍✴⛤✴💚❤
Here's a thought: put a sculpture within your sculpture. For the bear, you can stack silhouettes of trees/etc.to make up a wilderness scene within its body. You can float birds/leaves/etc. on the various layers of resin so they can 'fly'.
That is a really good idea. I may have to try that sometime. Especially if I have a woodsy animal like a bear/ wolf ect..
@@BMSculptures I'm glad you like it. You can also 'slice' your sculpture to be mounted on a wall. That would not only take up less floor space, but would use half the materials. ...or literally slice it and have two sculptures. (...and if you *REALLY* want to go all-out, you can figure out how to use 'Pepper's Ghost' to add in 'forest spirits'/etc. 'Black 3.0' would help with that.)
I think this idea would perfectly fit a deer
Imagine a sculpture of a mountain with hills/forest/animals in different layers of wood inside of it.
