Hey, whats up guys. In this video I will be custom painting a chopper tank with a few different methods. I use a torch to create a fire technique that i later apply a brandywine candy paint over the top then clearcoat to lock it down. Remember if you clearcoat you will need to sand and or scuff with 600 grit in order for the next layers of paint to stick. I also applied a (Clear) waterslide transfer paper and I ran through my ink jet printer to print the design. The white basecoat locks down the ink so its protected once submerged in water to release the backing from the water slide paper. Once applied to the part the ink is trapped between the white basecoat and the waterslide. Be sure all of the water and air bubbles are removed before moving onto clearcoat. When clearing a waterslide decal its important to remember to apply 3-4 really light coats to prevent the edges from floating. I applied silver leaf with sprayable sizing glue from LiME LiNE. The glue dries fast with only 2-5 min dry time before you can start leafing. I you plan on Spinning (engine turning) your leaf like I did here in this video be sure the leaf you are using spins. I have came across allot of other brands that just dont spin the same and have problems with burn throughs. I pinstriped the leaf edges with tape and an airbrush that way the paint lays thin and I know that the clearcoat will not have a reaction because Im using the same basecoat paints all the way through. Clearing over some pinstriping paint can cause separation or other problems if not careful.
Let me know if you have any Questions in the comments.

Did you not apply the decal upside down? All the ones in your store you slide the decal off the paper with paper side down towards the surface. It looks like you applied it with the adhesive side facing upwards
Yes that’s correct the smooth basecoat on the waterslide decal clings to the sanded clearcoat on the tank much better adhesion then what little tack is provided on the top side of the decal. Doing it this way traps the ink between the basecoat and the waterslide decal both methods work this one is better
@@TimeWarpCustomPaint the only thing I don't understand. If you paint the paper and then you slide the painted side to the metal. How does it attach to it? Because I assume once you paint the paper you got to wait for the paint to dry before you stick the water slide in water. So if the painted side of the paper is dry and only wet from the water. What makes it stick to the tank.
@@ProwlersPit just the water as the decal is so thin then after it's coated over the top it traps it there, the same as if you wet a piece of paper it would stick to a window
@@jamesd1866 Exactly. Or like if you set a wet coffee cup on a paper towel, and it leaves nice paper ring on the coffee table.
He did for some reason, I didn't think it would work the way he did it
Wow!! I’m neither a bike guy or a painter and this is absolutely fantastic. I used to paint electric guitar bodies so I knew that end reveal was going to be popping!!! Fantastic.
Truly amazing. The talent this guy has and passion to produce quality work, his techniques are flawless. Really amazing to still see hand made stuff like this still being done.
Thank you !! I appreciate you watching
@@TimeWarpCustomPaint how for something like this but Azteca culture one.
That`s the most "labor intensive" eleven minutes I`ve witnessed in a LONG time ! ARTISTS make Life worth living. Can Do !
I can’t lie, I was skeptical when I saw “image transfer” on the title. I was thinking it should be hand drawn or airbrushed. After seeing this I was completely blown away!! Absolutely 100% beautiful!! Amazing! The work you put in, sanding between the multiple coats, the colors, the silver leaf, and the way you blended the image. New subscriber here.
Looks really really cool. I absolutely love the subject. It’s an incredible image. I’ve sprayed 1000’s of gallons of laquer commercialy but never had the opportunity to do something like this. Great job and thank you
That is awesome!
Definetely not my style but... what a masterpiece.
It's amazing how all the components and detail become the final product. All those steps. You really have to be an artist. The finished job is spectacular.
Pretty amazing for only 11 minutes and 35 seconds. Can’t imagine what you could do in a 40 hour work week. That’s some pretty amazing next level artwork.
You are remarkably talented with that tape. Eyeballing a perfect line without a crinkle! Mark of a master
Thank you!!! I appreciate you watching
Always watch these videos to the end. Novices like myself see the stages and think, that's going to look like crap, simply because I can't see the finished product in my mind. This isn't just a painter, this is an artist. Very well done!
I appreciate that thanks for watching
It great to see people are still doing what my father did in the 70's!
I can remember applying decals to model cars the same way. Was not aware it could be used on real life items. SWEET!!!
Right on thanks for watching
The original art work is called “The Triumph of Christ” by artist Gustave Dore from the year 1868. Which is what makes it more awesome looking at it on a modern machine using modern technology!
Wow that's a really good point. Brings a whole different facet to the art. Poignant, not just amazing. What a name too. I love that piece so much. I'm going to look for it for my shop wall.
Awesome work. I have a suggestion for you. In the world of glass gilding you can get a mirror shine from silver/gold leaf, by smooth and high glossing the area you are going to gild. And then apply the silver/gold, not with glue. But with gelatin dissolved in hot water. Using that as your adhesive when drying, the gelatin will stretch out the silver/gold to an almost perfect mirror shine. Thought it could look cool on a tank as well. Be aware that it won't stick good as when using glue, so maybe a bunch of clear coat and a sanding could cover it nicely? You surely know that better than me. Any how, just a suggestion. Still awesome work!
wow that's awesome 👍!! I use to paint cars and bikes. the money wasn't enough for me. I went into carpentry and after I really enjoyed the fresh air and sun . but I still did body work and painting. love your work!! I hit subscribe. today's painting is different from the early 80's. looking forward for more of your work!! ty for showing us what goes into your work.
Damn. You have patience. I’m a car painter and I couldn’t imagine putting so much time in one small area. 🙌
I saw this bike at a show in Phoenix a couple weeks ago! It was a lot of people's favorite! Definitely mine!
I appreciate that!!
Honestly you’re a genius, the videos are amazing. They’re easy to follow because your explanations are incredible. And even if you’re not trying to paint, you can just binge watch the videos they’re so good.
I appreciate you
Right!!
@@TimeWarpCustomPaint . Need a more in depth video on the image transfer. Thats pretty sweet.

That finished tank is absolutely awesome, you done a fantastic job.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I appreciate you watching
Rather hear background noise or even you talking than that horrible music
I absolutely love this! I'm an artist myself just a God given talent that I've had since I was a kid. I've taken air brush classes several years ago but never really got into it since the classes were short and really not detailed like this. I admire your dedication because it takes a lot of time commitment and patience to be come an artist and to be really good at what you do! I've recently took up woodburning and absolutely love it! Whatever artwork you love just stay committed. Keep up the great work!
So true man thank you for the comment
As an art teacher and a custom painter, the main issues with teaching people to use and airbrush, is the same as pin stripping or freehand lettering is muscle memory, which comes from repeat practice, I've never met an artist who even though was mentally a great artist who didn't do great work without hours and hours of prarice. Don't give up on the info you've gained, but it to practice and you'll get there.
Sorry about the grammar and spelling ... just got home from a 12 hour road trip and at my age (73'), my old "Shovel Head" wears this old guy out...
If you want to airbrush, just to it. You don't need classes, as they can lock you in a box. You,re better off observing and gathering Tips and ideas from videos like this, and adapting them to work with your own art style.
Correct me if I'm wrong I'm an airbrush artist myself but didn't I just watch someone applying a decal or sticker to a tank.
Made it look so easy, great job it turned out beautiful.
Thanks for watching
What a beautiful tank, anybody be proud to have one your tanks on their bike..
As a Christian, I am really loving that a lot of the clients you're getting are getting a lot of Christian iconography on their tanks. Beautiful to see!

Hi, how do you make the Decals like the one you layed on the gas tank???
Clear waterside decal paper and a regular ink jet printer you can get the waterside paper here www.amazon.com/shop/timewarpcustompaint?ref=inf_pub_timewarpcustompaint
Have you got any that are 2+ years old that have been left in the sun? I really want to know if the ink jet can withstand any sustained UV exposure
I am rarely jealous of other people. But today I am jealous of 2 people. The person with the skills to create that piece of art work. And the person that now owns that piece of art work. FKN Amazing!!!
I am blown away by how good that looks. You are fantastic.

I love that image. I liked and subscribed for that in itself, but was also impressed by how gifted The LORD JESUS CHRIST made you in this. That taping and the artistic game plan for how to get the look is out of this world.

I am super inspired to give some painting a try. I will start with adding something like fancy strips to my truck before doing a bike. Maybe a flat piece of steel 1st.
Good idea! Thanks for watching
Love the red pin striping. It sets the rest of the job off. Great work!
Thanks! most complain about it. I like it too
@@TimeWarpCustomPaint The only comment that matters is the owner of the bike it went on. If they loved it and padded your pocket a bit then your your work was spot on. Eff the rest.
