A war scythe or military scythe is a form of pole weapon with a curving single-edged blade with the cutting edge on the concave side of the blade. The blade of a war scythe has regularly proportioned flats, a thickness comparable to that of a spear or sword blade, and slightly curves along its edge as it tapers to its point.

Good job dude and merry Christmas!
Nice fantasy weapon… But it’s not a 'war' scythe, though. Those are oriented straight out of the shaft, not at a 90 degree angle like this one (and farm scythes). Having it like this would make it impractical to use in combat, as you'd have to step in to get the blade behind the opponent. But I can’t blame you, it’s the common depiction in fantasy art. It would be nice to see you make a real war scythe for comparison.
@@mikkohernborg5291 I Actually agreed with this he makes a fair point
Is that you rh?...your fan from philipines
I've always wanted to make one of these, but I was told a 28 to 30 inch saw blade was a better choice to use to cut out a scythe blade shape. But i never thought a giant wrench would be an option too.

@@pksvkpk4801 They can be used as weapons. There are even some martial arts that focus on it, both in Europe and Japan. This comes from the olden days when peasant farmers had to defend themselves from invasion with whatever tools they had lying around. Many opted for the scythe as it proved surprisingly effective, and eventually they started making scythes specifically for use on the battlefield. In fact, I've read that it's believed the peasant uprising of 11th century Poland featured scythes as a favored weapon among the poor.
I like to cut carrots with a schyte
@Pclav S oh, definitely. But for that matter, we tend see stouter construction and slightly longer handles on kamas meant for fighting than kamas meant for harvesting, but they're kamas still by design despite their relatively minor differences. Same practices in play with binding an opponent's weapon, countering with the other hand, and using the unique blade shape to attack from unexpected angles. Similar principles to the scythe, save for the differences inherent between polearms and single handed weapons fitting a similar niche.
I always look for these channels to find some peace in my life… these videos work wonders, it’s so calming just watching the process of something being forged. Truely peaceful 😮💨

Just out of curiosity, do you ever sell any of these finished products or do you keep them as displays?
if he sells them then tht dude be rollin in money
If he sells the weapons that he creates we'd be back in the viking era
i think he keeps 'em as trophy for his content. I mean at least he has a physical proof. I would do the same tbh
if he sold he would be arrested by peasants
He sells them but you would have to be level 90 and above to unlock his shop.
That thing is a beautiful work of art worthy of a king. It's not a suitable weapon for combat, but if you walk around with that thing in tow, you're bound to inspire fear and respect. Not a war scythe, but a powerful symbol none the less.

It looks so gorgeous and stylish, I loved it Thanks for showing us the progression And btw, even if the blade was beautiful, what I loved the most was the handle, idk why, but I'd love to have a bow made like that ofc would be heavy and quite rigid but for the looks I'd but a dozen. A amazing weapon, deserves be handled by a scythe master. But to tell the truth, I wanted this scythe too 🤩
Its not a weapon, its a farmers tool. True war scythes would never have the blade running horizontal to the hilt. In a real fight, this thing would offer the user no balance, no power, no legibility, no reach. You can neither parry with this item or attack from a angle that wouldn't leave you completely exposed. The user would get crushed by anyone used a sword, spear, or mace. Real life combat scythes would have the blade running vertical to the hilt, effectively making the weapon a glaive, not a true scythe.
Damn the amount of detail and love you put into this, that's crazy
pov some one want kindnapped u ur pov : pick weapon kindnapper: .
Man, it's videos like this that make me want to get into this as a hobby but I know it's a lot more difficult and time consuming than it seems. Probably expensive too, in terms of buying the equipment I mean. Anyway, that was an amazing creation, oh my.
Every hobby is expensive and time consuming, to be fair 😂 might as well make swords
Hola
@@CombatLegsVIDS yeah, but this is a hell of a lot more expensive that some other things
@@treesap2566 I'm sure some cost is offset by the youtube money he's making 👍
Honestly, you can find substitutes for some of the equipment if you know where to look. As an example, around railyards you can find track scraps to use as an anvil, old heater pipe can be cut for the forge, and you can get an 8 lb. hammer at Home Depot for under $50. The real expense is when you get the power tools and base materials.
So much work goes into such a beautiful scythe! You are truly amazing at this
I saw the Video, instant Sub. Anyone else like that?
0:18 RIP chickens
Great finished product, but a few things to consider next time: forge in the bevels, it's cheaper and faster; did you run out of gas? The Kaowool needs replacing and sealing, the fibers can be blown out and get lodged in the lungs- this if anything else is a big deal. I would think about avoiding engine oil for quenching, it's unsafe and doesn't impart any practical level of carbon into the steel, but I do appreciate it is cheaper to obtain. At least you're doing it in the open air though.
This is the coolest thing ive ever seen
wow this is an insane level of craftmanship! i love it!! how long did it take?!
This man is genuinely the greatest smith alive
