    • I actually do love the Steel Chair. I've used it and have been hit with it like no ones business. I have, however, suffered from many concussions from it. Back in the mid 90s we said "oh you got your bell rung sit out for a minute and jump back in" now we know that "bell rung" is a concussion and we know it causes serious damage down the line. My students are 20 times more creative than I ever was and should be able to use that creativity to be smarter. But I also know when you're coming up in the business you want to do the things you've seen your heros do. So no matter what I say I KNOW THEY WILL still use the chair.

  • I am way late to this video but I've been a longtime wrestling fan going back to the late 60s, (that shows you how old I am). I am not, nor can I ever be, a professional wrestler, but I deeply appreciate your passion and teaching about your business. Thank you for all you do. Watching this video brings to mind a story that Jim Cornette told about Big Bubba Rogers when he was in the old NWA. Dusty Rhodes asked someone to gimmick a wooden chair so they could use it later in a match. When it came time to use it, Dusty grabbed the chair, swung it hard which blasted the slats off of the back of the chair, and wound up horse-collaring Bubba. Bubba's just wearing it as he takes off his fedora hat, shakes the pieces out, and all the while Dusty's backing up, which he had never done before. Come to find out later the guy who was supposed to gimmick the chair forgot to do so, so Bubba took a full shot but just shook it off. A helluva story about a way different time.

    • Yup, there's a big difference between fake and scripted/choreographed. If you want to use the word fake, it's probably more accurate to say the OUTCOMES in pro wrestling are fake. but the risk and pain people can experience from it are real. Fair disclosure, I'm not a pro wrestler myself, just a guy who's had his fair share of spills in life to know you can only do so much to absorb a fall, but you can fall correctly to avoid an injury, which I have figured out how to do on my own. Still hurts when you fall, just you don't have a sprain or broken bone to also contend with after the fact, though bruising is still a likely outcome.

And the DUMBEST thing about it is it was SUPPOSED to be controversial and it was.... then AEW was like "It was fake. It was gimmicked. It was done wrong but Cody's okay" They made wrestling REAL and CONTRIVERSAL like they wanted and STILL killed it. And now they haven't done SHIT with it or Shawn Spears and he's back where he was in WWE. I don't get it. If you want something to be controversial, COMMIT TO IT WHEN IT'S CONTRIVERSAL. Impact didn't back up when MVP dropped the N word on Impact. They went with it. TBH it was one of the best and most under rated promos ever too.

But it was for a show, I'd never been taught how to use a chair and he just said, "Swing for the part of my back where I would bump. It'll be fine." I remember heaving that thing above my head (he was on hands and knees on the outside) and thinking "How the fuck can I do this without hurting him?" So I hit the side of the floor as close to his ribs as I could. I ended up hitting his funny bone. We got to the back and he was like "Goddamn, kid, didn't I show you how to actually swing one of those things before the show?" NO! YOU DIDN'T!

    @JohnyScissors@JohnyScissors Жыл бұрын
  • This is why WWE does not allow headshots anymore. Only the fat mostly part of the back which hurts but doesn't hurt as much being hit in the head. There's only a certain part of the back there supposed to hit two and it's up near where the shoulder blade is. Right under it is a huge muscle and that's where it's the best to hit without causing much injury. I've been watching wrestling for 45 years and I never would have took a chair shot that's why I didn't get into pro wrestling trained professionals or not like I said I've been studying it for 45 years and I would know there's no safe way to take a chair shot or to be superplex on a ladder. Taped up halo kendo sticks keep them from breaking and cutting people. And the sledgehammer in WWE is one hundred percent real but it's easy to see that the fist is what context the head of the other rustler not the sledgehammer which would cause massive damage.

I'm crazy stupid cause I love using the chair, but I know I shouldn't. I know the effects it does, we've always have. But if it's gonna help advance the storyline I'll utilize it. That's why we sometimes call it the sickness. But don't do it, you have the ability to be far more creative than to have to use a chair.

  • U forgot to let the ppl know who is taking the hit to get there's hands around the area they're taking the hit to absorb the impact and still sell the hit!! Now if u can't see it coming, then that's a whole different situation...like he sed, there's no real sure proof way with the chair, but u can still minimize what u can on taking the blows if u r able to have some control...and don't forget to sell, sell, sell!!

  • Makes sense. In the end, you are still getting hit on the head with a chair. There's no safe way to do it. It's like asking for a safe way to get shot. Yes, you can use a vest but it would still hurt and cause damage.
