This video is an overview of the inspiration, creation, and mechanics of my glass-wielding magic system for my YA fantasy book series, the Glass-Wielder Chronicle. It is the same as the previous upload with the AI images (wisely) removed.

  • If glasscasting is gonna be a genetic ability may I suggest you go more in detail, genes are tricky, you have mutations, genetic drifts, one thing that could give you a lot of freedom would be to not make it a set gene, sometimes there are different genes that code the same protein, maybe for some people glasscasting is a dominant trait, maybe for others is recessive, maybe for some it's a dormant gene or maybe some have a delitirious mutation that negatively affects their body, the posibilities are endless. Sorry if I started rambling, it's just that as a med student and fantasy enjoyer few things are more satisfying that my favourite thing in fiction meeting my favourite thing in reality, like in atla in Bitter Work, my favourite episode of book 2 when Iroh explains lightning bending to Zuko in such a way that is both consistent with real world science and the worldbuilding of the show, and I'm rambling again 😅

    • Love that advice. Thank you! I've wondered how genes work with bending in ATLA, especially since Mako and Bolin have different bending powers, as well as Kya and Tenzin

  • This is a very cool mash-up of concepts. I don't think that I'm in a position to give advice here, but still. You might consider the glass materials. In the real world, it is made of sand that has an interesting relationship with vibrations. In my world (Ashara) People create these deep sounds to vibrate sands that they live on to give them pattern-like shapes and release powers from them. This singing, making vibrations with your breath and with your muscles is a way to connect with their god, that is planet itself - Unity.

    • Agreed, very cool idea. Amazing that you called your people Ashara too, I've called Glass-wielders, Rishara. Sounds oddly similar.
