Waterloo, one of the most famous battles in history. The battle that shaped the future of an entire continent. The battle that saw the final defeat of the emperor Napoleon.
Can anyone today truly comprehend the shear chaos of combat in the Napoleonic era. How can we really picture the scale of what happened in Belgium over two centuries ago. The roar of the massed artillery, crack of the musket fire, the thunder of huge ranks of cavalry, and screams of wounded and dying men…

  • When soldiers would reflect on the battlefield surgeries at the time, they would often mention "the singing of the bone saws". Now you know why

  • This video shows the sculpture of the eagle to symbolize Napoleon it also shows the piramid with the lion on its top, suggesting that this is to memorate Wellington but this is not. The “Bute de Lion” as it is called is to pay hommage to the Prince of Orange, commander of the Dutch troops and wounded during the battle.

  • It was of course not Wellington that started the advance forward movement but the Dutch brigade under general Detmers that started this manoeuvre as soon as the French troops faltered. Only after that initiative that made the French fall back the English general ordered his lines to fall in. It is not mentioned in this nationalistic video. All for Britt glory.

    • Not so much nationalistic, but just poor quality. They simplify the story down to the level that they think keeps an audience watching, whereas it simply bores most people by it's dumbing down.

  • Typical low-quality modern TV, virtually at the level of bad children's television. Note, for instance, how they skip over all the details of how to load and fire the musket, but blather on for minutes about how big the hole it made in a piece of plywood was.
