Meet Doug - the domesticated prairie dog who lives his best life travelling the USA with his devoted owner.
Sarah Deluca, 27, took in black-tailed rodent Doug after finding him as a two-month-old pup in an exotic pet store in Pensacola, Florida.
She took him home in early 2021 and let Doug free-roam in her apartment.
Doug is now living his best life and goes on road trips and plane journeys as they visit all corners of the US.
He has explored lakes, beaches and parks in Flordia, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, New York and Vermont.
Sarah, who works as a private tutor in Gainsville, described one-year-old Doug as a loving pet - who she simply couldn’t live without.

  • I didn't realize Prairie dogs were in such demand as pets, when I was a kid in Colorado, we lived on a farm and had a prairie dog village across the street. I used to roll treats down one hole in the village and they would pop up from another hole holding the treats! I just took a bit of molasses and rolled the grain feed for our horses into a ball with it. They LOVED the treats!

  • I had three PDs when I was in highschool and I wasn't the best caretaker. I miss my babies so much and wish I could have another change to show them the love they deserved. Not a day goes by that I don't wish I more mature to take care of them properly. Love your babies, don't take them for granted.
