I re-watched Premiere Guitars rig rundown on Brian May, with his very droll guitar tech, and they also talk to Brian about the Red Special. That thing is astounding, his first and only hand-made guitar, built as a teenager, still in regular, hard use and never had anything done to it more major than re-finishing. He is an absolute one off, just like that guitar.

  • This song is musical architecture. It's a sonic painting. What creative vision Freddie had!! Also, I never realized how often Freddie changes the tonal key center throughout the song. When the vocals are removed, it's much more apparent. He used the lead and harmony vocals to transition smoothly into new keys and back again. So with the vocals removed, the key changes come as much more of a surprise. Freddie had the soul of a classical composer. Had he been trained in classical composition from an early age, I'm sure he could have been a very good composer.

  • being of the generation of the early 90s and grown up with digital recording I have a huge amount of respect for the recording efforts back then... this is unimaginable today. I tip my hat. I think that is part of, why the 80s are sort of deemed the golden age of music: it is when the creativity of artists and engineers finally started to meat up with the available technology

  • Hes explaining the music as of hes building a house... literally brick by brick and every ounce of notes are all the mortar used. Hes incredibly humble and intelligent...

  • This window into Brian May's thought process behind this song is a most fascinating look behind a rock classic . Thank you, truly! My appreciation of May's talent and skill is immense. The music he gave us! The music Queen gave us!
