    • I truly feel like money is the issue. Zion Williamson made $75 million just from a Nike endorsement before he ever bounced a single ball in the NBA and could have made $100 million if he went with a Chinese brand! If it were me, I'd make the guaranteed contracts a little less guaranteed. I wouldn't necessarily go to straight game checks, but I wouldn't just give guys guaranteed contracts. Regarding the ASG, maybe each player of the winning team gets $1 million or maybe it triggers a clause in their contract. * you're an all star starer - extra $1 million at the end of the year * you make the all star roster but not a starter - extra $250K at the end of the year * you're on the winning team - another $1 million. The loser gets nothing. It's a shame that we're at the point where we need to BEG players to play. This is part of the reason why I don't watch much NBA these days, until the playoffs start.

Because in any of the sports, the players just don’t want to get hurt anymore they have too much to lose so do the owners. They stopped why because it’s not just on the players the owners don’t want the players getting hurt in these games. I think one of the biggest problems is the referee problem.

Adam Silver is a nice guy and makes himself available but he dodged the question , the all star was a critical failure . I won’t watch next year . And real basketball fans don’t give a shit about the 3 point contest or dunk contest . We want to see the best in the world play hard . Why don’t they just make the all star game and voting at the end of the season after the finals ? So r they’re not so worried about getting hurt . Whatever they do with the broadcasting deal , cable sucks and is on its way out ….leaguepass exists why don’t they just keep upgrading that service and making it more accessible . Ticket Prices are rediculous who cares what players get paid Finally the officiating is why no one watches . The players are good , and real basketball fans know it’s not that ppl don’t play defense anymore it’s that the floor is spread and u don’t constantly have contact anymore cuz ppl r not banging in the paint every possession for putback dunks , ppl r just stupid and don’t consistently play or watch basketball and understand the rules or the spacing But the officiating is garbage and especially with the betting they’ve made it hard to trust the nba

    • Speak for yourself. The dunk contest used to be an amazing event. It's lost so much hype since the 2016 one with gordon and lavine. Also, you are failing to identify the problem in the second paragraph. People not playing defense anymore is not because of the spacing, for the most part, it's a direct cause of the officiating, which is caused by the league's rules, and what's considered a foul now compared to the past. The rules don't ALLOW players to play defense is the issue. Most people know that. People call the players soft because of the whole load management bs, taking extended breaks for the most minor injuries. and the constant flopping and complaining.

      @MrBacon-ou1kw@MrBacon-ou1kwАй бұрын
  • I actually think the issue can be fixed with adjusting the break schedule. Nobody works hard the day before vacation. So the break should be before the game not after. All teams are done with games before the break on Sunday. Give players Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday off and then allstar weekend begins on Friday as normally scheduled. Monday is another off day to report to your next city, then Tuesday regular season resumes. The Allstar Saturday needs to be revised as well, the Dunk Contest is no longer the prime event, the 3pt contest should close the night. Also have performances from top artist between each event.

  • I guess it truly does break across generational lines. I've watched the NBA seriously since 1980. The idea of an all star game where guys aren't even trying? Sure, it's not game 7 of the NBA Finals. But most fans are used to guys having fun the first quarter. I still remember MJ doing a hook shot during one All Star game. You'd see guys shooting long 3s. I remember Shaq dunking it on The Admiral and everyone going nuts. Then, after the 1st quarter, guys would look at the score and start getting serious. By halftime, the game got serious. These guys simply have no pride. They're too rich and win, lose or draw, they have more money than many COUNTRIES! Maybe Adam's right and the genie is out of the bottle and they need to shake things up. Maybe 4 on 4 with two NBA players and two WNBA players. I don't know if I like USA vs the World, because the world would probably wipe the floor with US players at this point! Maybe a game of horse. I don't know what you can do to the dunk contest. My suggestion: give a $1 million prize and let anyone who wants to try, get in there. There are many street ballers that can pull of amazing dunks who would LOVE to give it a full effort. The days of MJ vs Dominique in the dunk contest are over.

Defense has almost disappeared, and most of the feeling of intensity of competition has gone with it. The All-Star game wasn't that surprising because that's the way players treat regular games now, just layups and threes all game long, put on a little show, hug all your buddies on the other team when it's over. I don't know, it just feels to me like they don't care that much about it, and if they don't care, why should I care enough to watch?

    • I would just remove the 3 second violation on the paint and that would instantly would fix the defensive issues in the NBA. If the players can pack the paint then the ball handler can't just drive into the moment the defense step out. the kick out would be less common. The pacing would more crowded for slashers. Mid range would be incentivize. The NBA need to bring back the dress code. It's disrespectful seeing this players using their off day as "Pasarella" to show up their jewelry,stupid clothing decisions and lack of taste or fashion on the bench while his teammates are working. It's embarrassing and disrespectful to the sport. If you ain't playing then don't be on the bench and if you want to be on the bench just dress accordingly to respect your teammates working. Respect the court time because at the end of the day the jersey, the warmers,sneakers are all uniforms why players are allow to disrespect the workspace wearing whatever the heck they want on the bench?. Hand checking is whatever. Hand checking do exist in the NBA still. If you watch the games players always got an hand on the opposite player. The rule that need to be changes is giving foul on defenders went the Offensive players is provoking the contact. If i'm running right by side you and you jump why i'm getting a foul?. It makes no sense.

      @RomnysGonzalez@RomnysGonzalezАй бұрын
  • the truth is they really need to tighten up the rules and make it more like the college game, throw out alot of the stupid rules like defensive 3 second rule, bring back hand checking, freedom of movement rules should be limited, I think the main reason that these refs are so sensitive to contact is because it seems any kind of physicality now should be a foul, but it is not like that in other leagues like college and the euro league, that's why guys like Luka Doncic said the NBA is easier then the Euro league.

I think people just make general statements about how expensive sports tickets are without really knowing exactly what they're talking about. You can get season tickets for as little $25-30 a game in several NBA cities. And get put on a monthly payment plan And fans have not been taken out of the equation. American fans have been replaced with people from other countries because they made so many changes to the game to make it a more European style game to accommodate more global players coming into the league all to make more money.

Also, put winning team players into the metric formula for MVP (weigh those players who won the all-star game more when picking the MVP). • I think the language surrounding All-Stars is interesting. Years ago, it was primarily referred to as the All-Star Game in marketing and advertising. Today, we hear a bit more talk of “All-Star Break” and “All-Star Weekend.” I think the current attitude regarding the way the Sunday games is played reflects this difference. The players do think of this as more of a break or weekend than competitive game. We can also see this reflected in the Olympics. The Dream Team was the best of the best players of that era. Since that time, the teams have become less of the absolute best. The loss of the U.S. in 2004 also impacted the team as many of the best didn’t want to be associated with losing the gold. The “excuse” if a U.S. team loses the Olympics or other international competition is that the U.S. didn’t have our best players. Things are must different competitively now.

I recall Jerry West hitting the winning basket with 1 second to go in the '72 game, I think it was, and his teammates being ecstatic. I remember another where Randy Smith of Buffalo hit a basket at the buzzer of all four quarters in a tight game. And one more where two teammates from the Warriors, Rick Barry and Phil Smith, played exactly like two teammates should, getting steals off double teams and running the floor and looking for each other for baskets as they brought the West from behind. The game is just unwatchable now.

Since players like to team up and form superteams nowadays, whenever you see 2 teams play in the regular season. Nowadays, that's essentially the competitive All-Star game you would like to see in the actual All-Star game.
