  • I had a dog named Bridgette that had a broken leg as a pup that she fully recovered from. But for the rest of her life if she was in trouble and being scolded she would raise that paw and limp around looking for sympathy. They are like children, masters of manipulation.

    • Our chihuahua took a hard hit on the head once. We thought it killed her... So now when we wake her up to go outside (especially if it's cold) she pretends she is passed out or she'll cry (tears). We feel kind of crazy for thinking she'd try to manipulate us but good to know it's not just us 😅

    • @@stressbucket9846 I know dogs can "manipulate" but I don't think of them as manipulators. They do their best to communicate to us what their needs are. Maybe the Chihuahua really IS upset when it's cold outside, ha! And this man's little dog could well be stiff at first until he gets moving. One of my girls is like that. I know that the younger will wake me up - on behalf of the other one if the older girl is sick or needs to go b/c, though she's bigger, she can't put her paws on the edge of the bed to wake me like the younger can. They look out for each other and for me~ Their souls, all animals really, are so special💜. Lotsa' love to all the fellow pet lovers out there ❤.

Her problem was halfway through the act she would often forget which leg she started limping with and start doing it with the other one. I guess somewhere along the lines these dogs actually had a little limp and liked the attention they got. Clever little buggers.

I loved her so much and bonded with her a little more than I did with Coco. Daisy died at 17 years old almost 2 years ago now. About a year ago I got my 3rd Shih Tzu, an absolutely adorable puppy we named Muffin and of all the Dogs I've had this one is the sweetest and cuddliest. With Coco and Daisy there was always a limit to how much cuddles and squeezes they'd take before it was enough but with Muffin its all she wants to do and its the sweetest thing. I've already bonded strongly with Muffin and love her very much. I really just cannot see my life without a little Shih Tzu roaming the house.

    • The dog I had growing up knew the very same phrase. There were five members of the family who would put the leash in several different places so it was often a legitimate question I would ask the dog. After I said "where's your leash?" She'd grt very excited and go find it, then we'd be off on our walk. Once when I was visiting from college I went on a run around the neighborhood but didn't bring the dog because she was getting old at this point and couldn't keep up with me at a full run anymore. After about a mile or so, on a straight patch of road I heard a faint skittering and clicking -- and turn around to see my old dog running up the road trying to catch up to me. Man, the feeling that knotted in my chest. I ran back to go get her and when I was about to pick her up I said without thinking, "Oh where's your leash?!" since it was clear someone let her out without realizing she was going to run after me and not just sit in the deck or whatever. Anyway, this confused her very much since there weren't any leashes around! I walked her back home, and scooped her up to carry her back for some of it. It reminded me of when she was a puppy and we'd run too far away from our house and I'd have to carry her back when she was tired. I'm pretty sure that was the last time I ever saw her run.

  • My dog Molly did this. She fell down the stairs and was legit hurt, so after making sure it wasn't serious we treated her like a princess. Carried her up and down the stairs, gave her food and water RIGHT next to her bed, gave her extra cuddles the works! For a week at least, she limped around with no signs of improvement and my mom and I were somberly discussing options. My cat Doc suddenly went into 'crazy mode' in the laundry room and Molly sees and dashes toward him full speed, barking at him. We stared at her, eyes wide, mouths agape and she turns, sees us watching and instantly becomes 'meek and injured' with a limp, drooping head and pathetic look. Special treatment ended that day.

"Joe, you idiot, you're limping on the wrong paw!" So he traded paws... with a hopeful grin! My Mom didn't see it, so I kept quiet. We had live-in company with kids, and it didn't take long for Mom to notice he was free day care. A condition very common in toy dog breeds She was in pain and we realized it It just cost me $5000 for her surgery and has been 10 weeks and she is still not fully healed. I am glad we caught on to it so soon. The vet said sone dogs go with it for years before the owners take them in. Anytime your dog or cat or any animal interacts with you they are communicating with you. You just have to know how to read it.

    • @@TacticalDimples there are several levels of pain, and several different types of pain. Take this as an example of this video: The dog is limping because of a splinter in it's paw. It doesn't hurt when he limps because there is no pressure on the splinter. So the dog is happy and joyful and runs like nothings wrong... Except for the limp. If a dog is limping. Always take it to a vet. Always. Dogs don't always show when they are in pain if something else is distracting them. • We had a tiny chihuahua that ran on 3 legs only, alternating back legs. When we first noticed we were concerned and took her to the vet and all was fine but we saw her doing it again…..then realized she was alternating. No clue why and she ran that way for 15 more years:)

    • Yeah, my third Norwegian Elkhound (adopted as an adult) very convincingly faked a hip problem, but when I took her in to get checked (paid the vet's kids' private school tuition for the semester) she was fine and demonstrated her ability to clear the fence when we got home and she wanted to visit the next door neighbor's shepherd mix for a play session.

  • My dog used to do this, he was a big labradoodle and it was always so funny when we'd take him to see grandpa and he'd walk up all sad looking and sit down heavily next to him then present him the 'poorly paw' and look all mopey, knowing he'd get extra special attention for doing so. We all loved how he'd do that for like 7 years straight with no breaks, it was his "give me cuddles" routine exclusively for grandpa, and then he'd run out the door like a puppy when it was time to go for a walk or get in the car to go home.

  • My Great Dane did that too. He was legit injured once and we fussed over him and put a down jacket over him to make him comfy and warm. From then on, whenever he saw the down jacket he would whimper and tremble until we covered him with it and tucked him in. He was pitiful. Sheesh. He trained us.
