I love how he gives him one of the deadliest weapons in the arsenal without going into too much detail on how powerful it is. It's like giving someone a 577 Tyrannosaur rifle to someone who's never fired a gun before.
Except that if you hand someone a 577 Tyrannosaur, they probably understand it’s a powerful gun. They might not be ready for just how hard it kicks, but it’s a big rifle, and that’s usually enough for someone to someone to assume it’s a powerful one.
i like to consider it a form of MIB hazing, like the gun was designed specifically to make the new guys look like idiots and every agent has had to go through it just for shits and giggles
I always thought it was actually the easiest weapon they had and all the others were even more powerful.

Personally, I think that K was trying to protect J. He may have thought that J is stepping into a world that he doesn't fully understand and that if he got into trouble, he wanted to give him the best chance of getting out of it. K seems like the type not to horse around.
Nobody seems to be talking about how Vincent D'Onofrio absolutely nailed the body motion of something that is just anatomically *incorrect*, trapped inside the skin of something else.

The Noisy Cricket may be small, but never underestimate its power. That puny little gun packs a powerful punch.
I could only imagine, that this gun - in it's original form - was used as a mounted weapon on some type of alien power armor / vehicle - with sufficient tech level to compensate such insane recoil. But when it was transfered to MiB - aliens told something like "you guys are the big bois, you'll adapt..."
I think in the animated series, there was an episode where J gets a suppressor type attachment that made it act more like a regular handgun.
Honestly, it's a crime we never got to see the Noisy Cricket make direct contact with a target. If it can do that to a truck, imagine what'd have happened to the bug man on a direct shot, lol.
When he knocks over the shelves full of spray cans I just noticed they are tins of raid bug spray. Edgar is a bug! LOL

Get the message across, indeed. The Series 4 Deatomizer is a weapon you use to send a message - specifically, that whoever's on the wrong end of this thing is gonna have a really bad day. The Noisy Cricket, on the other hand, isn't for sending a message. It's for blasting something to smithereens.

Probably my favorite weapon in the whole movie is the noisy cricket. Proof that you should never underestimate anything. Look at yoda from star wars. The most bad ass jedi in the series is only like 3 ft tall.
