  • I’ve been a photographer for over 50 years. I’ve had aperture and shutter priority cameras. I’ve used Kodachrome and Fujichrome as well as other type of print film. I say this to let you know I’ve had some experience. Now my comments. This was easily the best video I’ve seen about shooting in manual mode. Or any mode really. Well done you hit all the “side effects” clearly and efficiently.

  • Another tip: If you're a beginner and don't want to do full manual all the time (as it can take multiple adjustments and trial and error to get just one good picture) use the shutter, aperture priority modes. Almost all DSLRs and mirrorless cameras have them and it can be a very effective way to get very creative shots. You adjust the aperture/shutter speed, and the camera auto adjusts the rest. Very useful in a pinch.

  • As a newbie photographer, I've watched several dozen videos explaining these things and had already gotten a good general grasp of the concepts, but I have to say yours is absolutely THE BEST. The way you explained it, the way you demonstrated it, and the graphic you used on the left were all brilliant. This proves why not everyone who masters something is good at teaching it - you definitely have the gift not only for photography but for teaching. Thanks so much! I'm gonna take a print screen of your graphic and print it and keep it with me as a great reminder tool.

  • This is probably the clearest and easiest explanation i've ever seen on how to shoot pictures in manual mode working with lens aperture, shutter speed and iso. It can take long time to get a sense of how those three things together affect the final picture, but you have managed to set everything quite straight in just ten minutes . Well done!

    • Unbelievable! I have been making pictures since I was 14. When I finally got a grip on it and how to use the settings the camera broke. Years later I went to school and I relearned everything 'the right way' I could just never get a clear explenation and kept mixing things up. I lost my interest for many years again but never the love. When I went to study again we had photography, and at that point I hated to listen to explenations and my camera had a lot of limitations. So because I got frustrated with digital I went back to film and loved every second of it. But because of my memory problems after a while I forget why I do settings and then forget how to balance them out. So every now and then I go online and look for clear explanations as refreshers but they only seem to make me more confused. And now I found this, I watched it and everything fell right back in to place. No more frustration ever, because I can always watch your video again, thank you so much 💕 no more feeling stupid, hell yeah

  • For those who freaked out about his pronunciation of iso - From iso.org (About page) "Because 'International Organization for Standardization' would have different acronyms in different languages (IOS in English, OIN in French for Organisation internationale de normalisation), our founders decided to give it the short form iso. Iso is derived from the Greek isos, meaning equal. Whatever the country, whatever the language, we are always iso." It's a word "iso", not an acronym "I-S-O". Think isometric or isochronous. Thanks for being one of the rare KZhead influencers who get it right!

  • Thank you!! For speaking clearly and most importantly, SLOWLY so that you are very easily understood. Also, your explanations are perfect for beginners because you are not trying to shove 30 minutes of information into a 10 minute video. And your visual examples were perfect. You are the fifth or sixth person I’ve turned to for help and now I don’t need to look any more, you are exactly what I’ve been liking for in an instructor, so thank you 🙏

  • Wow. I'm absolutely astounded. I've been looking at videos and reading countless resources on this and for some reason it just wasn't clicking UNTIL I found this video. I want to thank you for a simple yet concise explanation an all three factors. I had such a hard time understanding ISO, aperture, shutter speed and how they all interacted with each other. I'm certain I'll have a much more pleasant time taking pictures now that I know exactly what each mode is for. Thank you again, this was absolutely brilliant.

  • This was incredible. Exposure triangle was really hard for me to grasp. I love your analogy! 3 sliders that all increase brightness and have their own side effects for brightening the image. That makes it so simple to understand!!!!
