How I removed squatters in less than a day.
In 2019 A family of Squatters broke in the back door and moved into my mom's vacant house in Northern California and the Sheriffs wouldn’t do anything about it since the house had furniture and they made themselves at home and I had heard horror stories about how the legal system gives the squatter more rights than the homeowner, so I decided to come up with a way on my own to get them out in less than a day. Here is my story. I don’t suggest that everyone take a chance like I did on their own. It’s worth noting that I have had special training, a license to carry and was prepared for whatever situation was to arise. The men and women I had to deal with remained peaceful and that may not always be the case. If you ever have a situation like this, it is best to expect the worst and you will be prepared. Recap video • How I removed #squatte...
What boggles my mind is that when someone loses their home to the bank , police & sheriffs ARE present to evict the homeowners , but won't do anything to evict squatters who are NOT homeowners!!
At that point the eviction is already done for the Owner
Sounds like a Demoncrat rule
@@MsElke11 shut the fuck up with the political BS. If you wanna go there we can talk about all the laws that Republicans try to pass that are definitely not in the best interest of the American people.
If you’re getting evicted it’s ordered by the courts. That’s the difference. Not that complicated.
@@MsElke11 Do be quiet. It has been like this forever even when Trump was in office and if you do not remember he is a Republican. How about you keep major politics out of this. This type of situation has been done when both parties were in office.
I bet if someone squatted in some politicians house the laws would change quickly!!
Rich people would probably just call a 'friend' like this guy to go in there and threaten them with all kinds of bad things.
No… they’d just….. disappear.
No, they don't live by the same laws as the rest of us.
The laws wouldn't change at all because the police would deal with the politicians problems quickly
It is illegal. I would remove them. I would not even call a fking cop. They would be leaving my home one way or another.
“Become a squatter on the squatter”. That’s brilliant!
So Smart. Crazy law that police can't go into a house for a squatter illegal intruder. I just heard on news that Florida governor has changed the law.
He gave the squatters a taste of their own medicine 😅
He became a squatter but let them take everything?????
Except he wasn't a squatter.

"Squatters Rights" shouldn't even exist. It's breaking and entering, which is illegal everywhere.
I did not see “Squatters Rights” in the Constitution
There's no such thing as Squatter's Rights. It's a legal loophole time wasting term used by squatters the same as Sovereign Citizens.
@@ReaperX7 I get that you're 15 but when you grow up, you can study law. You can even look through the comments here to see actual quotes from legal cases involving squatters rights. Go watch your anime, sweetie.
@@ladylily ma'am with all due respect, you're 30 years too late with that reply, and you're altalking to a security officer who deals primarily with property and management rights, trespassing laws, codes, and ordinances, and code enforcement procedures and have to work with and alongside law enforcement with our clients and contractors. The laws squatters are trying to say they can have rights under is the old homesteaders rights, which allow a person to claim private land in public trust after having lived on it for a predetermined time period, usually years which would grandfather them into the ownership status, especially if they have done anything to make the land useful. Problem is, homesteading laws require years and public lands, not private lands and existing domiciles. The eviction laws also only cover legal documents that have been through a notary public's signatory. A falsified document, including lease agreements which have to be legally signed and notorized, is a felony offense. Plain and simple, it's breaking and entering. And it should be treated as such. As far as anime goes... Demon Slayer's pretty damn good. I watch it with my 21 year old daughter. Ain't half bad.
@@ReaperX7 Curious why law enforcement can’t remove these people when the owners ask them to. From the few videos I’ve seen, it seems like the news crews show up and the police are always lacking the ability to actually do anything for the homeowners. It’s so bizarre. Especially if the law doesn’t support the squatters
This is MIND BLOWING! Incredible that "squatters rights" are even a thing!
There are reasons for squatter’s rights laws. “They prevent the abandonment of properties and enable the productive usage of land. By permitting squatters to ascertain a claim, what the law states is designed to discourage homeowners from leaving their land or buildings unused for longer durations. This will in addition help alleviate problems with the deterioration of properties and advertise community development.” They also prevent landlords from forcing people out of homes before it can be determined if they have a right to stay or not. Sometimes landlords attempt to remove tenants who have a legal right to be there because they have a proper lease. They need to be reworked to prevent the abuses we’ve been seeing, but without throwing the baby out with the bath water.
There is no such thing as squatters rights they don’t have legal rights but get away with this because of difficulty enforcing the owners legal rights. Historically at common law, several years of open use and maintainenance of a property could ground a claim to title. Of an owner asserted title at any point the clock would stop. It never has and does not apply to people breaking into a property and staying there for a few months. You are seeing more of this now because legal system failing. The legal system moves slow and lots of people lie or forge a lease and this prevents the sheriff from evicting people until it moves through the courts.
Squatter’s rights are intended to help people in one specific circumstance: There’s a vacant property abandoned for years and it’s been that way long enough that no one knows who the owner is. Everyone has assumed the owner has died with no heirs. So people move in and repair the property. Suddenly some years later, a person arrives that claims it is their property. And now that the residents have fixed it up, they want to make use of it and kick out the people that have repaired it and lived in it with no challenge for a few years now. The law allows those people to stay put while the court works through its processes to determine whether this long-lost owner really is the owner, and whether the owner has the rights to kick the people out.
None of this makes any dang sense and obviously the laws need to be cleaned up to protect the average home-owner. Period. Not the one in a zillion abandoned property apparently being remodeled for years by some big hearted hard working squatter who doesn’t expect anyone to come and claim it..? Clearly that’s stupid and not what the law is meant for now if it ever was before. We’ve all heard of states with obscure laws from like 1890 still on the books but not enforced, like walk your horse down Main Street on a Sunday and you’re arrested. Telling a home or business owner they have to spend thousands+ dollars and countless hours when someone breaks in and lives in their property is clearly stupid, outdated, and needs to go. Laws should protect law abiding citizens.
I know, but there are a lot of stupid laws. Like Jeanthesecond pointed out, it’s also to protect legal tenants from being evicted on a whim by the landlord.
That's the most civil conversation I've heard between a squatter and a home owner!
One of my in-laws was telling me about some squatters in Denver that were moving into the house of a Marine veteran bound to a wheelchair when he came back from a vacation. He made a few phone calls, not one of them to the police. It's rather hard to argue with 25 ex-Marines as they move your things back into the truck you're trying to unload. No violence but no tolerance either
Thank you for watching and sharing story.

The laws need to change right now for the Squatters rights Immediately
You did the right thing. Squatters have caused people to lose the homes they paid into and worked on for decades. The laws need to be changed.
Absolutely I totally agree
They did this in Fl., no rights for squatters !
they have been changed..to permit this shit. The question is, who changed them and when?
@SGDeGalvez The Saxons, about 800 years ago. Squatters' rights are a natural result of things like tenant rights. They also protect property owners from fraudsters. They also allow land and property that has been abandoned to be claimed without fear of someone showing up 20 years later to reclaim their abandoned property.
@debbiet-t.3773 no, Florida didn't alter its squatters' rights laws much. They made it a misdemeanor to fraudulently lease or sell a piece of property that you don't have a claim to and they allow the police to be hired by private parties. Squatters can still achieve "adverse acquisition" if they occupy a piece of property "openly and notoriously" for 7 years in Florida. Florida actually has one of the most lax squatters' rights laws in the country.
There shouldn't be any squatters rights! That's like saying thieves have the right to steal whatever they want.

go squat in a court house.. watch shit get turn around.. .. or better yet go squat in a judge's house..lol same fucking same..
I'm not defending these criminals but I can explain. Squatters are usually going into unoccupied homes like this one. A while back, liberal politicians were able to convince enough people that an unoccupied building housing someone who would otherwise be homeless is only a loss of some time. Time that isn't as valuable as the human life in the building or the potential trauma that potentially homeless person will face. Secondly, law enforcement won't treat them that way because of liberal settlements that cost the department millions. If the US wasn't so litigious, they might be willing to treat them as burglars from the get go.
@@JohnDoe-zw8vx Thankfully, the country is run by better human beings than you.
Not really. Squatters rights only works if they been living there for 10-100 years. This sounds like a verbal agreement dispute. We aren’t getting the whole story here but the cops could definitely help him if he or his mother could have shown up with proof they owned it. If those squatters were not receiving mail there the owner could give the police permission to enter and make them leave.
Ill never understand how someone can just move into someone else's house like this! This is just crazy to me!
The best thing in world is a good handy man. They deserve professional recognition.
I've been practicing law in CA for 43 years. She is a prison guard for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. If she gives you any "trouble" again, contact CDCR in Sacramento, ask to speak to their legal department (I think they have an "attorney of the day" for calls) and tell them what is going on. She is a PEACE OFFICER in CA. She should be fired. This is a clear violation of CA Penal Code section 602 (criminal trespass). Law enforcement should have gone out there and make her provide proof that she had a right to be on the property; that is the legal standard. You handled it like a gentleman with a lot of grace. You're a better man than I would be.
Is that why the police wouldn’t remove her?
@@salteadog33no it's because she has "squatters rights". After someone takes over a vacant house. The 9th circuit Court of Appeals has learned too far too the left. So LE is too scared to intervene and get sued. It's a huge mess. We have issues in my area with Roma moving in to vacant homes. Trash them and the wall street owners just take their sweet time getting an eviction. Caused a lot of problems with their neighbors who are paying $4800 a month to rent next door to them.

That woman should be arrested. She's no different than the people that she looks at behind bars.
Love how she's trying to bs him when it's obvious that she's living there, plenty of witnesses, electricity turned back on, furniture arranged in rooms, her uniforms are in the bedroom where a bed has been put together & appears to have been slept in. What a great example for her grandchildren...she should be reported & lose her job...she knows better than to pull criminal behavior like this. Unfortunately, in the state where I live, squatters have more rights than the owners & it's nearly impossible to legally get rid of them, particularly, if they have children, it's cold outside & if those children are in school--the owner must wait until school is out. When criminals continually go unpunished, law abiding civilians are legally helpless to stop them, then, LE officers will decide to become criminals as well.
She might be even worse. They aren't supposed to be the good guys.

Exactly. I would somewhat understand if they found an old worn down cabin in the woods and totally restored it but that never happens they want to move into ready to sell homes and think they can just break in and take it and sadly I know a homeowner that lost 100k and took him almost a year to get the scumbags out and the whole time they’re destroying the house stealing all the new appliances and basically anything they could get money for and then when he finally got them out through the courts they just got to walk off into the sunset to do it to the next poor homeowner.

I was thinking that after he found everyone out, he should have run around putting up yard sale signs and just open the doors. In the meantime, change all locks and put up cameras.
There should be no rights for squatters. Should be criminal trespass. This needs to change across the entire country.
There really aren't "squatter's rights" in the way people think. Believe it or not, simply posting "no trespassing" signs on a property is usually enough, in most states, to override any squatter's rights. The main thing that the law relies on is that the squatters are *notified* that they are on somebody else's property. If they are notified that they are on somebody else's property and made aware they are trespassing, then poof, "squatter's rights" are gone in most states. Squatter's rights only really kicks in when somebody has been occupying property for a certain amount of the time, and the owner of that property has not protested their occupation. This usually occurs in fairly innocuous ways, such as somebody builds a fence a few feet over their property line and into a neighbor's property, and the neighbor doesn't care, or doesn't notice, until say four or five years later - at that point it's too late to simply say "hey your fence is on my land". That's when squatter's rights actually kicks in. It's the lack of protest by the actual owner that gives the squatter rights to the property after a long enough time has passed (in most states this means several years have passed without the owner raising the issue).
It's the same as stealing.
@@somerset6646 How does squatting differ from breaking and entering and burglary? Both criminal offenses. Oh, and theft in most cases.

I remember hearing a story about a squatter in Durban, South Africa who occupied a house after the elderly owner died. His son could not get them out, so he hired a construction company and they removed the roof. It was the rainy season as well. They also disappeared pretty quickly. Another story I heard, was of a man who just chucked his pet python into the house (where people were squatting) one evening. Snakes are anathema in this country; people are terrified of snakes and the squatters ran out the house within minutes.

This happed to one of my friends, and he was about to knock the guys teeth out.
It's not that simple... Squatter's rights were established to protect a person who homesteaded abandoned property, cared for it, improved it and someone who might have lived there years ago and left it, couldn't come back and reclaim it now that it has been improved.
@@christiroseify it’s very simple they can prove that they kept the house up and paid the property taxes. It won’t change that part of the law. In most cases this isn’t the situation. If they didn’t also pay the property taxes they have no claim no different then it is now.
@@FlashShelton Yes, If she could show the home had been abandoned, (abandoned being the operative word) for a reasonable time period, ( at least a year) before she moved in there, she took care of the property, was current with the taxes and all that stuff... That is what "squatter's rights" are... but obviously that is not the case here. What he did here was slick...lol... good for him. I've seen absolute horror stories with this generations idea of what "squatting" means. The way the court allows this to be abused it outrageous.
I had someone trying to squat in one of my houses while I had legal tenants living there. The squatter occupied one room. So I consulted an attorney and a hearing for an eviction was set. Unfortunately eviction was an all or nothing event. I would have had to evict everyone or no one. So before the court date, my legal tenants arranged to stay with friends on the court day so I wouldn't have to put an eviction against their names because people who have an eviction in my state get their names on a public list and no one will rent to them for 20 years. It was a Friday and court was set for Monday. The squatter had a disabled baby that was not being cared for properly, and apparently CPS was scheduled to make a home visit before the court date. As soon as the squatters found out about the CPS visit, they packed up everything they had and left the state. So the court date was cancelled and all my tenants moved back in, and everyone was happy except the would be squatters.

Sometime back my dad helped a woman who had been unable to either collect rent or get rid of people who had become squatters. He went to the local dive bar and for a keg of beer had the dirtiest bad ass looking guy load the beer onto his trike and go camp out in the front yard of the house. When approached he explained that he and his biker gang buddies had rented the house for the week from the owner and friends and dealers would be coming in from all over the state to party for the week. The a**holes were gone in 2 hours. Maybe they didn't like the smell? Ps, the biker dude didn't have anyone coming, he called and said the squatters were out. Problem solved.

@@FlashShelton I don't understand why they can't just get them for trespassing. We had one in my condo community - they broke in, changed the locks, put an ad in Craig's List, and found someone to rent. They took a deposit and first months rent from the poor girl and took off. She loved the place and was having her dad make repairs!! When I got wind of it (I was Neighborhood Watch Coordinator), I contacted the police and they told her she would have to leave. People are so sleazy.
Congratulations! You are a brave real man that’s not afraid to stand up and do what needed to be done.
You are absolutely an earth angel! You were so kind in the midst of such a horrific situation. People need to have hearts like yours! If you lived near me in Florida, I’d hire you in a heartbeat! Is that Steeler gear in the background? Steeler girl here forever!
A guy in Sydney Australia, bought a run down industrial building in a light industry area. What he didnt know was that squatters had taken it over. He tried every legal recourse, to no avail. So he got creative and installed a large, heavy duty loud speaker system playing awful noises 24/7.......the squatters called the cops, and cops are like......."he owns the place, its industrial, noise complaints are irrelevant." The squatters moved out.
That's amazing. Like cockroaches complaining that the lights are turned on. Glad they scattered. Some people are just so scummy and immoral. Thanks for the great story.
The Tony Soprano route, perfect.
I love this! I will remember this!
This points out so clearly just how confident squatters have become when THEY call the cops on the property owner! Insane.
This should be a movie! Brilliant
Just found your channel. I live in Florida and Gov signed into law yesterday that squatters are to be evicted immediately.
So wish your Gov would be our next Pres but until that time comes lets pray people elect the right people into office from sheriff to President
That's awesome
The new law says the squatter has to provide with a notarized lease agreement, to stay.
That is great. No one should move to any state where squatters have the rights to toss homeowners into the streets.
Because Florida has an awesome Governor.
My hat is off to you. You exercised patience and intelligence. As a home owner my inclination is to exercise sufficient violence to reclaim my property.
This is how Real man acts when he sees the injustice! We need more of You, Rick!
Friend had same problem. A bunch of her friends-we all got together. About 15 of us. We talked to every neighbor on the block, and got verbal permission (some even joined us) to hold a impromptu 24/7 block party. We played loud music, barbecue, illegal fireworks now and then…..all in front of her house. The squatters were meth users. They do not like loud music, very bright strobe lights , barking dogs…all day and all night. We camped in shifts on neighbors yards. Potlucks. You name it… when the last squatter left for her fix, we went in, removed what crap they had. Changed all locks, posted no trespassing notices and installed alarms and cameras. It was hard work, but fun. It took us 72 hours- and they were gone. We need to change the laws. Legal homeowners should not be the victims.
Very creative, I love it. You even got to enjoy yourselves a little at their expense, haha. 👍
It shouldn't have to take all that to get custody of your own home. I can't believe squatters have more rights than the actual home owner. It's absolutely ridiculous.

My dad had a squatter at a rent house back in the 60s. He took the front door off the house and took it home with him for "maintenance". Then he called the local housing authority and told them the front door was "missing". They red-tagged the house and the people moved out immediately. After they moved out he re installed the same door.
What does red-tagging mean? Why would that make them move? Sorry I'm not clued into all this stuff. Sounds like a genius plan tbh, I'd love to know why that worked (and they didn't just board it up with something IDK)
@@grumpycup4762 Red tagging means occupancy not allowed. Like having no utilities connected. Not quite condemned. It might NOT make them move as they could have put a door on it and then got the red tag removed.

We are providing that service across the nation. Recruiting is a main goal right now.
There is something to be said about a man with a plan and the audacity to carry it out. My hats off to you.
With their items there, they claim it. He was dealing with people who left willingly. Squatters don't always leave just because we tell them to. Some dig in, They don't care about the 10 day or the following 30 day eviction notices. If you try to lock them out or remove their items without a judge's order, you can be the one in trouble. Sadly, it's as if laws protect the occupants more than the rightful owner. This guy's situation is the exception, not the standard.

That’s awesome! Great job. Thank you for watching and sharing your experience.
So cool!
Where did you take the stuff in the uhaul?

That’s probably the best way to handle it. That way the cops can tell “them” to go to court to prove ownership.
Well done mate.... nice to hear a sensible ending to one of these situations
Yep. Get the locksmith, junk hauler and a dumpster along with 2-3 hired movers to just get it all out, change the locks and post it with a No Trespassing sign, front yard and back yard. Also have a PODS delivered and pay for 1 month to give them storage for any valuable items. PODS will store their items and they can have the container delivered wherever they end up.
I hear this is exactly how to legally get a squatter out. The true owner draws up a lease and rents to someone else (her son in this case). The son can then evict the squatter. The owner cannot legally evict, but the new leasee can.

Love that you started the handyman association too. Not sure is something similar in Canada but will look into that. Finally- hello from a fellow Steelers fan!
Back in the late 90s, my girlfriend and I were living in Portland TX, were neighbors with one of my Marine buddies and his wife. They had a furnished vacation beach house in Florida that they were looking to sell. They had previously rented it out over the winters, but hadn't done so in over a year. There was a lock box with the keys mounted on the exterior of the house. They called a realtor to look at the house. The realtor told them that the lock box was missing, and people appear to be occupying the house. So my friend called the police there and reported that people were trespassing in his house. The police called back, said that there were no signs of breaking and entering, and that the people in the house claimed that they were the tenants renting the house. My friend then faxed the deed to the house and property to the police, showing that he owned it, and told them that he was not renting it. When the police went out again, the people in the house showed them a copy of a lease they had for the property. So the police said that there was nothing that they could do, and my friends would need to go through the courts to resolve the issue. They knew that this would take at least a year, possibly up to several years to resolve. So my friend and I, along with 5 more of our Corp buddies decided to take a trip to Florida and force the squatters out. After we arrived there we did some recon on the house for about a week. There were 3 couples staying there, and they all worked during the day mornings and afternoons. The lock box had been torn from the exterior wall of the house and the spot covered with a decorative sign. My friend used his own keys to get us in, and we waited for the squatters to get back. The entire house was immaculate and very clean, lingering smell of Fabuloso in the kitchen, bleach in the bathrooms. My friend noticed that some repairs and light renovations had been done. So the three couples that were occupying the place all returned, and things were tense for a bit. At first we told them that they had the weekend to move out. They argued back that they had a lease and were the legal tenants. My friend countered that he was the legal owner of the property and never had a lease with them. One of the young ladies staying there went to use the restroom and called the cops. The police came out, and things got heated again. Here we were, 7 Marines, 6 hippie looking young people, and 4 cops arguing in circles. We said that we were not leaving until we removed the people from the property. The people occupying the house said they were not leaving. The cops said that we all need to take the matter up in court. Then one of our friends took our friend who owned the house to another room, they talked for about 10 minutes. Then they had one of the young couples staying in the house to join them, they talked some more, and 2 of the cops got in on the conversation as well. When they came back, the cops told us good luck, and left. So since the place was very well taken care of during the approximate year's time that these people were in the house, my friend offered them a rent to own deal on the house, which they accepted. So everything worked out well. The people in the house took legal action against the couple who falsely rented them the house. They won that case, were awarded the amount they spent in rent, and other damages. The couple scamming them were found to be doing the same thing with more than 20 other properties, they were arrested for it. I'm glad that this issue was able to be resolved in this way. Our original plan was to ask them to leave willingly. If they refused, we were going to remove all of their personal property from the house and put it at the curb the next time they were all at work, and then change the locks and secure the house. But things worked out for the better for everyone.
That's good if in case there is no one occupying, and u get someone who will keep the house in good shape then it's better u negotiate for proper lease documents then that's all. Rather than pushing them out. All we ve to know is that all fingers are not the same.
Cool story, thanks for sharing
