    • @fluffy7358 well from what I heard in this video and others, they are always consulting on where best to place nonreleaseable rescues, where to place creatures for health recovery, etc. That's what licensed wildlife rehabbers do, is consult and collaborate. This bird went to the larger medical facility that is nearby.

As well as all the other care you give for all these critters as well, I can hardly imagine half the work you have to run around doing! I have raised and worked with axolotls myself. You probably don't have to worry about those "fat rolls" you saw on your lotls. That's just kind of the texture a healthier filled out axolotl's sides tend to have. A healthy weight for these guys is usually when the tummy is the same or slightly more wide than the head, so these fellas are looking pretty good considering how malnourished they were when you got them! The work and progress made by him and Bog Ounce to turn the sanctuary into what it is today is really incredible. Gotta give it to God too for blessing Uncle Ben even thru all the rough times. Ben is proof of the difference one person can really make.

  • 3:06 Update: Turns out I was completely wrong about this... It may be yellow quartz or calcite as suggested by these comments. my dreams of nerding out about sap are over... 😞 JK!! I'm still gonna keep my rant about sap because I like sap and resin very much. :D I'm pretty sure that what you are looking at is solidified tree resin that somehow fell off of a tree. I used to collect pine resin all the time and burn them into amber-esk gems and also used them as torches in the woods (in a safe way of course). After a while, the sap hardens on its own and turns into the lumps that you are holding. I also used to collect huge, and I mean HUGE, globs of what I think was plum sap. (I'm not 100% certain if they were from plum trees). The amount I collected eventually turned into a 3/4ths foot round ball of hardened sap that I tried to burn just like the pine sap. The interesting thing is that unlike the pine sap, the plum sap didn't burn or melt in the slightest! Instead it kind of blackened, and nothing else happened. From the looks of it, I think the sap in the video is pine sap, but I could be wrong.

    • Probably just yellow quartz, one of the most commonly found crystals.

      @Ardarein@ArdareinАй бұрын
    • Looks like a calcite to me. The structure of the crystals does not look like sap at all

    • You guys are right, I didn't pay too much attention to the exterior of the mineral the first time around. If I looked at the outside of the rock I would've seen that it was stone not wood. A really weird thing about sap is that bark seems to regrow on top of old sap sometimes instead of underneath, so I thought that that was the phenomena that was occurring. I've collected sap that looked EXACTLY like the front side of this sample, the only difference is the shell, sorry for the confusion.

      @ISplimeI@ISplimeIАй бұрын
    • @@ytsejamz5608 Dang, I just realized that I've been using the term "sap" interchangeably with "resin" for a while... Well just know that when I said sap I meant resin. The crystals do look quite a lot like resin (that has been dried and stuck to a tree for a while), as I've collected hardened pine resin that looked like this exact formation. Like, even the refraction of the light on the crystals are almost identical. That's why I got it confused. IIRC, loose sap, resin, and amber all have completely different crystal formations and tempers, so stating that the structure doesn't look like sap is pretty broad. And also different resin from different species of tree (or even from different parts of the same tree) will yield slightly different structures. Sorry for the long yap...
