I love my rave. Road a 2022 rr800 cat and I still really like the cats but the rave is just better in most aspects.

Great video fellas! Always informative! I find the wider front end stance more beneficial when it comes to 50/50 sleds. I have come to realize that the narrower stance helps off trail, but it doesn’t make up for what is lost in terms of handling on the trail.
I agree with you in the pull start. Why that isn’t standard on all 2-strokes is beyond me. Bizarre change from the 90s when I was paying extra for e-start and now I’m paying for a pull cord!
Only on BRP. They upcharge everything possible.
I really don't get the missing pull start complaint. First of all, there is no pull start on the big 4-strokes, and somehow people don't have any issues with that? They use the exact same E-start setup, and are probably more prone to a no-start situation because they need more power to start. Secondly, this is an Etec. They are super easy to start on the clutch. A friend of mine was riding his e-start Etec for two whole weeks without battery and no recoil. He started it on the clutch like 50 times, and not once did it fail to start on the first pull and not once did he have a sketchy situation.
@@Kowalski301 why didn’t he just use the Estart? Let me guess, the battery didn’t work? Case closed. In extreme conditions, such as 35 below zero, batteries fail especially if they are 2+ years old. They also add 20 pounds to the weight of the sled. For people who want the ultimate in performance, that 20 pounds is a lot. Ski Doo then comes out with awesome tech in the SHOT start system to combat the weight issue, and in typical BRP fashion they don’t offer it in trail sleds. The company just really limits trail riders in every possible way imaginable, and they’ve been that way for years now.
@@bedlambikes You clearly missed my point. I'm not saying that E-start is "better" than pull start. It's not one or the other we are discussing here! For the record, I have 3 sleds, and not one has E-start because I hate the extra weight too. But the issue we are discussing is if pull start is necessary when the sled already comes with factory E-start like this one, and it's clearly not. It's super easy to do a clutch start if the E-start should fail. You are probably more likely to snap the pull start cord, or break the recoil (both has happened for me) on a pull start only sled, than the E-start failing - thus leaving you with the exact same option: Clutch start which is no problem whatsoever.

Loving what lynx is doing with sleds and where there going I definitely prefer the narrow front end as we do 90% off trail riding in our area and it definitely makes the sled more playful in many ways thanks for the review

This is my next sled. I have a ‘19 backcountry 850 146” now and the next year or two I will pick one of these up. Love it and wish they had it in ‘19. I love my front end but having the slightly wider front end would be more beneficial 60% of the time and is another reason in why as of now this is my next choice. Keep up the great work guys 👍🏻

Xterrain RE is a serious crossover sled, but its not built for sidehilling. If you want one of those you need to go for boondocker RE(or DS).
Great review as all of your walk-arounds are! I'm a trail rider so personally l like the wide front. If a 1.5" track was available l'd have one of these in my trailer with the turbo R.

Hi..great video walk a round. Great to see the comparisons nail down so many aspects of each sled. Northern Minnesota still lends itself to a trail mecca, but with the Lynx Expedition it seems you would get the best of both worlds! Bill J.Duluth.
42” front with a 900 turbo R engine would be an excellent on / off trail high mileage beast in my opinion. Would of used it near every weekend when we had back to back to back Friday storms in Southern NB this winter.
I prefer the wider stance for cornering on trail with little to no ski lift. The narrower stance I find you tend to have that inside ski lift and have to reduce speed in corners. Thanks for a great season of videos, looking forward to next year.
Great video Guys ! if I had the option for a wider or narrow front, I would be leaning toward the narrow like the backcountry, cause I find it easy to get on edge and stay on edge, it makes it easier off trail and still handle good on trail ! coming from a summit, here in Quebec we ride all different terrain, I ride trails and lots of backcountry stuff, I ordered my self a 2023 brp backcountry Xrs 146 with 2" hopefully gonna like it, cause I loved my summit a lot, gonna be hard to switch over. have a good day guys and keep the video coming !!

Gteat review as always guys! If BRP is aiming at a 50/50 sled to compete with the SBA, then I think they made the right choice with the wider ski stance on this Lynx, as the performance of the SBA on and off trail had been the benchmark for years. I just made the switch from a 146 Summit to a SBA specifically because the narrow front end, while awesome off trail, made for a lot of work and some sketchy cornering on trail.
They had amazing colors options before and I always wished they'd come here and now there here we get red
From your review I think they have nailed that machine for the crossover categorie. I personally like the wider front end. If you add a quick disconnect to the sway bar link you would achieve an easyier carving characteristic in that machine. But the have a very stable long track sled for cornering. Again , great review! That would be my new sled choice if it were available😟

Great review. I definitely will say I like the idea of the wider front end on the X terrain compared to the back country. Most people that buy crossover sleds spend most of their time on trail so it just makes sense. Set the front end up for what your will be doing most. I still won’t be trading my matryx assault for one though.

Great segment Luke, thank you. Wider front end is nicer especially since trail ride mostly in Ontario. High speed running and catching some air allows for a more balanced landing. Imo.
Some background to the xtrerrain ski stance from Nordics, here the xterrain was launched 2019 and from there it only came with 38 inch front. This changed now for the year 23. Now the ski stance is same as Rave 42 inch. The 38 inch front was now only available in spring check with 2,5" lug track for the next year. Personally I like the xterrain a lot. Already owned 2 of them and third one is coming. And that is the narrower 38 inch spring check model. For me it suits better, I like to explore and do the donuts and have bit more agile sled for the freeride days. Even my riding is 80% trails and 20% offtrail. Of course it is lifting the ski more on the trails but if you are used to put your weight on inside corners this is not slowing you down at all. Still it is so light and fun sled to drive and steer for long riding trips. Adventure sled on its best! It can handle all the bumps as good as Rave and it is not in trouble offtrail either. One thing worth to mention is also those more open and bit higher running boards compared to Rave. Those have really good grip and they stay open way better if you go off trail.
I like the narrower front end! I had an assault with the 42” front end and now ride a summit 146 with a 36” front end. I think for what I ride which is Midwest us riding with some up north and west riding the 39” would be a great compromise!

As always great video. Sad the seasons over which means no more videos:( Time to dust off the atv. I prefer a wider front end but tough in tight off trail in the trees. Would love to test out a Lynx. It like like a great machine.
I really like the Lynx sleds and I hope we have a chance to see them here in snow cross. I would prefer the wider front end myself since I ride mainly trails and it should also help with better floatation in the deep snow.

I have a 2022 Backcountry X. Love the sled, but wish I had the wide front ski stance. My next sled will be the Lynx Xterrain.
I being a skidoo backcountry guy, do like the narrower front end, because when I’m riding trail I do like to ride a sled hard and go into a corner with that inside ski dancing and just come up with the skies in the air!
I like the wider front end with the rear bumper killer skid and high-end shocks. This would make Saturday riding much more enjoyable. Little less fear jumping off the trail with the longer skid vs my Renegade XRS.

My father i law's ( from Finand) old Lynx 5900 form the 80's is stil running smooth.. It awalys works even in -38 celcius, and its gone more the 15K km.. and its stil going strong...
I prefer a wider front end especially in this application. Floatation for when exploring but with so many great trails love the extra handling on the ‘flats’
I like the backcountry narrower front end have a 2022 backcountry xrs and find it still does well on trail and off!
The front end is a non problem for us scandinavians. The Xterrain RE (Race edition) is a trail sled. If you want something more deep snow you´ll buy a Xterrain Pro with a deep snow rear skid (PPS2 DS+) with a 2,6" track and a 36" front end. On the RE I think the wider stance is the way to go.This isn´t a 50/50 crossover. The RE is 70% trail. It´s a beast on trails.
Definitely the wider front end for where I live and the riding that I do. I think it gives more options
Luke, nice review! We ride northern Wisconsin and do not really get enough snow or have a lot of legal off-trail / backcountry opportunities, so for me and where we are, I like the "trail width" of the Lynx XTERRAIN RE versus the Backcountry X/X-RS. It seems this sled most closely competes with a Switchback Assault. This will be a good all around sled and what a lot of people wanted - a capable trail machine with high-end shocks that can pull your ice fishing sled or check your trapline while still being able to play off-trail or on the lakes. We hope to see you and the ST crew at Hay Days!
BTW - I would want the heated visor connection for those cold trail riding days and cold trips out to the lake in all types of weather. This is a capable trail sled and will be used as such. I hope it is standard and not an "accessory". My dealer of choice installs them on every sled as part of their initial setup after having it get missed and too many customers getting their sled back home and realizing it does not have a heated shield outlet as standard. IMO, it should be standard on any trail or crossover machine.
3-Assault previous owner here--with a Rave and ordered this to be my "Assault' as you said. Wonder if tipped rails would add to the setup as the Assault has, or maybe this skid is enough different that it doesn't add anything?
Such a sweet sled looks like it would be fun in the back country in the powder I think the wider front end is pretty nice it would be stable 😊
Can't comment on the narrower or wider frontend of BRP sleds, but I did put a narrower frontend on my 42" Arctic Cat. It's now 38" and I don't intend to go back. It was a bear to get on edge, it's way better now. But it does depend on what you do with the sled. If it lives on trail (then why get a crossover, but I agree they look cooler than trail sleds) then wider is probably better, off trail you want a bit narrower. I haven't had any issues with stability, I even pulled off the swaybar, but then again I don't speed down the trails at breakneck speed either. My riding doesn't include many snow highways. It's usually single track "trails" which I need to break myself or just backcountry. In open areas or lakes I don't have too many corners I need to take, so width doesn't matter as much. I think 38" to 40" is a happy spot for crossover sleds. Anyway, it's a nice walkaround of the Lynx. I really prefer this body style over the new Ski-doo's. I get it, that big display needs room to live too and yes, it's theoretically better at snow clearing, but man is it ugly.
You guys have any seat time on the xterrain brutal? Curious on you guys thoughts on it vs the expedition extreme.
Love the lynx front end, i think the narrower backcountry limits its trail handling. Also spring checked the xterrain 2023 and i dont think ive ever been more excited for anything, maybe a swag pack
I added the pull start to my Expy Xtreme, it cost me a lot of money and a few knuckles. BRP has become the master of post-sale wallet milking. Good on lynx for recognizing this was a feature that everyone wants, and which adds value. As for the front end, a 50/50 crossover, if there is such a thing must have a trail width front end. Anything less is off trail biased. I've ridden a handful of G4 BC's and would classify them as a sled I COULD trail ride if I had to.
Great walk around video. I ride a ‘22 Backcountry X-RS 154” mostly off-trail and I prefer the narrower ski stance for the improved side hilling ability. As noted, the XTerrain has more of a trail bias and I can see how the wider ski stance would be preferable for that.
Super weird that it’s a 2” paddle but they went with a 42 inch wide stance. 🫤
@@brendanshinn5865I would guess the track is an option. When I ordered my ‘22 XRS I believe the 146” had the option of a 1.6” Cobra or a 2.0” Powdermax. I think the 1.6” would probably be great for most flatland riding. (I went with the 2.5” Powdermax II for my 154” but if I was going to do it again I’d order the 2.0” lug which is sufficient for this machine with the 154” track with the extra flotation. The longer lug is nice on deep days and but it forces me to keep the speed down on the trail for fear of delamination and I generally have to ride 15-20 miles to get to the alpine riding zones I visit most frequently.)
@@gregchapdelaine4889 I don’t believe the track is able to be changed unless you get the brutal but then that’s a 20 inch wide track.
One thing never talked about on this model with the 900R option is that it comes with the post forward. All the skidoo XRS models don't get post forward with 4-stroke option.
Do you have a review on the 2024 900 turbo R? Do you see any improvements from last years model?
I’d go with the wider front if it comes with a quick disconnect swaybar link like the Freeride! Then you can get the best of both in a fast way.
I spring ordered an Xterrain Re, was disappointed with the 42in front end, coming off a Backcountry to this sled i was hoping for a skinnier front end but it was not a dealbreaker. I also wish it came with the DS+ skis. Guess we shall see how I like it next season! Thanks for the review.
I love your "how the sled sounds" part. Reminds me of exhaust videos 96% of it is how the stock exhaust sounds, and the last 6 seconds is the aftermarket... like I kinda think I know how stock sounds... since its stock...
Another cool vid. As for the ski stance, as you say, its a trade off. As mostly a trail rider, I'd prefer the wider stance. But when I do go off trail and try to get into some fresh powder, the more narrow stance is likely much more helpful. So, I guess, for me .. wider is better. These Lynx sleds are fantastic. I havent yet ridden one but MAN, I am chomping at the bit to try one. Playful seems to be the common word in any sort of review. Love it! How many sleeps to next season? :P

I own an 2014 backcountry x 800r etec. I like it and I'm sure I'll like the lynx xterrain re 850
I have the wider front end now on the Riot, I do like it for a lot of the type of riding I do but for me personally I have a hard time getting it on its side, and admittedly part of that is just me, but the Narrow front end suites my style of off trail more then a full outright Mountain sled, Im not a youngester anymore but no where near hanging up my snowmobile boots , and love to play in the powder just not to the extreme of Mountain Riders .. Hope that makes sense... but this is why I like the Backcountry and the Xterrain, more so the Brutal , cause that seems like a go anywhere fun sled to explore in.... :)

I prefer the Lynx front end over the Ski Doo. I like the pull start and windshield, as well. Good walk around and I'm anxious to hear what you think after riding it next season.
Pull start should be standard equipment on all sleds! And IMHO, I would choose the narrow front end if I was off the trail more and vise versa if I were on trail more often. It's nice to see lynx here in north America. I agree on the bogey wheels as well, especially for the amount these new machines go for now. NEVER SUMMER!

They knocked it out of the park bringing Lynx to NA. For those of us who are 100 mile a day guys, they're set up well. I don't really care for the big dash and tech and care more about the high end components. Not in the cards for me financially right now but in a few years you can bet I'll be taking a serious look at one of these or a Rave. Love that they keep the pull start too.

I like the wider front end… I’d say it doesn’t impact off trail at all and helps cornering while on trail.
Being a lighter guy (155lbs) i would be very curious to see how the wider front end preforms in corners compared to my backcountry x. This sled would be the exact sled i would spec out if i was to spring order.
i own a 21 Assault and a 20 SKS,,, i prefer the narrower stance and ability to set the ski stance of the SKS over the Assault. My preference would be the Backcountry set up. thanks for the walk around....
Wider trail front end for me, keeps it focused as a true 50/50 vs bias to the off-trail like the Backcountry X/XRS.

Im commenting on the lynx re regarding the wider verse the narrow ski stance i feel the wider stance on the rave is possibly a little more set up fkor better stability on cornering at higher speeds as for the 2023 re is not really losing stability much but possibly set a little more as an off trail sled or more in deeper powder riding with the wider track and slightly narrower stance. thank you Brendan Turner
I think the narrow front end is better for the crossover sled for sure! I’m a off trail guy so the closer you can get to a tundra 2 stance the better!

I wish they would of had this sled in 22 I bought a backcountry. This will be my next sled hopefully they make it in a 600etec. I have a heated visor on my backcountry lol. That would be the main reason I would buy the lynx is for the wider front end.
What is the windshield height ? Is that the low or the mid ? By looking online it’s the low ? But looks more like a mid height ?
I personally like the narrow front end on the backcountry xrs especially when your off trail it makes a big difference the the trail front end on the trail I find the narrow front end is almost better than the trail front end.
We all trail ride with 38 front ends and like it.
