    • Exactly...they stick to the trail better and can pull off bump absorption physics that lighter machines can't. It ain't just the shocks or the suspension geometry.

  • Here’s one that’ll make ya scratch your head also, that you guys overlooked. Look at how close the Yamaha sidewinder and the renegade 850xrs with smart shocks are, if you were to take away the power steering off of the sidewinder it would actually probably be lighter then 850xrs with smart shocks

    • My guess is 45 pounds more, you have much beefier your shocks, have your skid with rail stiffeners, additional bracing all over the place. Heavy duty front and rear bumpers.

  • So cool to see. The Turbo Backcountry XRS with a full width front end will be cool to see the difference year over year and compared to the MXZ Comp. Now I want you to weigh a sled that most people ride in the configuration they ride in. Lets see what a Linq caddy of fuel, a full bag of "essinetials", ice scratchers, ski-wheels, ski-trackers, triple blade carbides, plastic tunnel cover, mirrors, windshield, GPS, Bumpers, aux lighting, knee pads. You know, the minimum kit to trail ride 100 miles, lol.

  • Total weight is not just the only part of the story I remember when I had my Yamaha Nytro the rear end was very light and the front end was so heavy I could not pick the darn thing up. It’s where the weight is placed weight distribution is so important it would be interesting next time to get a 4 scale set up to on the front skis and set on the rear skid. And Show us the weight percentages very common in the car industry car driver always shows it. More work for AJ but it will really tell the story about where the weight is on that sidewinder . Have you ever held a 10 pound barbell out front of your chest and then pull that same weight close to you it’s night and day difference.

  • Please continue to provide the wet weight. Because some of "heavier" riders do like a lighter sled. I have a SKi doo GSX SE 800 and a Renegade Adreanline 600. On long and rough riding days, I ride the 600 because I am not so tired and beat up on wooped out trails. Smooth trails and high miles, GSX SE with the air shock wins.

  • I think total sled weight is an awesome measurement... Thanks for this segment. However, you could make an argument that where that weight is matters even more... 40lbs over the skis vs 40lbs spread out over the entire machine makes a difference.... This will take into account where the motor is mounted, does mounting the starting battery behind the seat vs under the hood matter, etc... might be interesting...?

And it is more than 35 lbs heavier than the Competition XRS with a Turbo and beefed up chassis? Are there gold bricks in the storage area? (That would explain the current MSRP)

  • Thank you for this info. It is sorely lacking as it is just as important (imo) as hp, torque, track, etc. One of my theories for some of the weight discrepancies is a combination of material thickness and alloy choices. I'm no weld and fabrication expert, but after ripping apart a few chassis and attempting welds, brazes, and etches on various sled metals I know that not all makes and models are built the same, even if they look dang close side by side.
