I’m from Canada and honestly I’m happy with this result. Norway has always struck me as a country with great hockey potential. These guys played very smart and tenacious hockey, very happy for them. As somebody with Norwegian roots I hope that someday Norway will be near the top of the rankings🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴

Im so impressed on so many levels with what our norwegian Hockey boys did today. What impresses me the most about this win is that we deserved it we were the best team on the ice today it wasnt lucky like we barley held and got outshot by 45- 15 no we were in the game the whole time our defense wich has been incredibly good the whole tournament just look at our pk it has been insane we have never let in more 2 goals in any game except for the Khasakstan match vs the Swiss the 3 goal was an empty netter that doesnt count. Im also really impressed with the mental strengt of our very young team Canada ties the game 11 sec before the end but in ot we dominate and in the shootout the boys just toy with the canadian goalie. This game also shows that we have two equally good goaltenders. Tobias Johansson has gotten a lot critisism , but i have never ever seen a Norwegian national team in icehockey let in as few goals per game as we have in tournament that is a testament to that Johanssson knows how to organize a team defensively. Yes our pp has been awful but we are compensating for that in spades in amazing pk and good defensive structure. Fantastic job boys now keep it up vs Slovakia tomorrow and our Latvian friends will be happy;)).

YES COME ON!! HEIA NORGE!!! OLE OLE OLE HEIHÅÅÅÅ!! It took us 23 years to get another victory against Canada. We might not have much to play for (since we are knocked out already). However a win against Canada is a big deal to a small hockey nation like Norway. Seing Ken Andre Olimb assisting Andreas Martinsen was amazing to watch. I wish our coach could have matched those two up earlier in the tournament. I still see Haga and Trettenes from time to time on the same line, which is a bit annoying. When that said I'm glad to see a young Norwegian roster that has gained valuable experience for next season. I really hope we can continue the progress. Thanks for the game Canada. Better luck next time 😉

i have always wondered why Norway has not been as successful in ice hockey as other nordic countries such as Finland and Sweden, but now they are on the right track. the win over Canada is definitely a confidence boost and now that Norway secured their place in group A, they have time to develop their own game for next year. @@jepjep8926 yeah I already said no team has all their players here except the B teams may be missing one or two. The point is most countries like Russia and Sweden can put together 2 complete teams that could beat most teams in this tournament. Canada has so many at this level that they could probably put 4 competitive teams. That would be A B, C and D so I would say this team here would be team F.

@@jepjep8926 no not really. A lot of players from these countries have been drafted by the NHL and they either gave it a try for a season or two and went home or didn't go at all. None of the players are as good as Noritz Seider. Some are up and down between the AHL and the NHL. Some of these players are average NHL players on bad NHL teams. One is a kid from juniors and another just started the NHL from juniors. My brother is a Montreal fan and I always tease him about how bad a goalie Montenbeault is. Lucic is a 16 year vet in the NHL and he is called a goon, a fighter, he has 1,299 penalty minutes in his career. You seem to imply Canada walked over these teams and that is far from the truth, all the games they won were very close and Norway jumped on them when they weren't performing well. Of all those players I think Tyler Meyers might, might get an invitation to try out for the Olympic team. Vancouver are very happy now because they think they might have a good goal in Arturs Silovs and they really need a goalie bad.

Thanks, and I 100% agree. Been saying the same for over a decade. Just look at the World Cup in football. You don't only need the best players, but you need a party. Celebrating and having an interactive and fun community is more valuable, then just some random individuals. The IIHF is becoming better for each season and I will continue to watch it for the next years to come. May has become an amazing month for me thanks to this tournament.
And not only a chance to win big, but to play against a thougher opponent. I mean, if your opponents are always at the same level as you (or a bit lower), you wouldn't, cannot improve a lot, only just a bit and find yourself further and further away from the top level every year.
The reason they don't play against the top teams is because they are trying to get more countries involved in hockey. Canada and the USA want teams like Norway to get better because they love the game. Russia doesn't, they like beating teams 15-0. If they got rid of the "B div" then when the real Canadian, Swedish and Czech teams come to these tournaments the score is going to be 15-0 and countries like China, Japan, Saudi Arabia and bunch of other countries are going to see that and say "we will never beat these countries so why bother" Many European countries weak at Hockey have good youth in Hockey but they don't take it as seriously as their Soccer. (football) It's just like America, they have 1000s of great black athletes who only care about Football and Basketball. If America ever got their Black and Hispanic athletes to play hockey it would double the size of the NHL and no country would ever beat the USA again.

I’m old enough to remember when Canada could beat teams like Germany and Norway with double digits. One couldn’t be bothered to watch. How times have changed and for the better! I’m Canadian but I find that a lot of Canadians feel that they own the game and can be quite smug about it.
Yeah, absolutely. And the argument can be made, and is absolutely correct, that if "Canada sent their best" then they would still win with double digits. That said, you play with the players who agree to come and just because NA as a rule doesn't care about the worlds as much as Europe does doesn't matter so much. And the Canadian team on paper is not a joke of a team and on paper is much, much stronger than the Norwegian team so it was indeed a very tough game for Norway. So a big win and happy for them.
Well price-sings you don't know much about hockey at your age if you don't know who those Canadian players are, that group of players is no better than Norway anyways. People in Canada laugh when teams like Norway lose to a team like this.
Yes Canada and the U.S. didn't send anywhere near their best players but European hockey has been making huge strides over the last decade. Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Germany have great pro leagues. Slovakia, The U.K., Norway, Latvia, and others are getting so much better. Champions League Hockey is fun to watch because you get to see the top teams from each league and there have been upsets even though so far in 8 seasons a Swedish team has won 6 & Finland the other 2. Part of that was Frolunda being so dominant for years but 2 Czech teams have made it to the final as well as 1 German team. Switzerland and Austria have had teams representing in the Semis. Champions League is a 26 team Round Robin style tournament.
@@AlexAnteroLammikko In the 2014 olympic tournament Norway played the so called best canadian rooster in the round robin we lost 3-1 double digits not always my friend in the 2010 olympics we lost 8-0 to the best Canada team;)).

I hate to break it down like this, but we are already knocked out of the tournament. However we can get 5th in the group, if we beat Slovakia. It might not sound too positive, but I'll be cheering and watching anyway. A 5th place in the group or 10th overall can be a valuable result based on the world ranking. The Olympic qualifier will happen in the near future, so any good ranking points does help the seeding a lot.
@@FreddieBear1 sadly beating the Canadian team means nothing, the IIHF knows the calibre of this Canadian team. The Canadian girls team might be able to beat them.

Norway is ranked 12th in the world at the moment and any position over that is valuable to us. With a loss today, we would have been in a worse situation. Win a win vs Slovakia we have a chance for 9th overall.
@@FreddieBear1 I think the IIHF is fairer than that, they don't judge how they do against Canada or Sweden so much as how they do against Italy, Kaz and the Swiss.
Yeah single games dont effect the ranking. It's the overall result/position. Being ranked 10-12th is an advantage, they get to host the final round of each Olympic playoff group. The winner of the group gets an olympic spot.

Congrats Norway for doing what you should have done and not fold just because there is a Maple Leaf on the shirt. These tournaments are really good for the B division teams because it gives them a chance to beat Canada and Sweden because they are just a bunch of players that would never be on the National team. It helps the confidence of the lower teams when they beat any team from those strong countries. Nylander from Sweden is a great guy, he decided at the last minute not to play because if he did he would knock a player off the team that would otherwise never have the chance to represent his country.

Great game from Norway, props for getting the win. In no way do I mean to disrespect their victory, but this was an embarrassing effort from Canada - failing to capitalize on offensive chances, making errors in the defensive zone and Norway took advantage.
Failure to capitalize on offensive chances is the reason 90% of the Canadian team can't stay in the NHL.
Denmark has done the best progress during the last 20 years,let’s hope Norway can do the same,it’s good for the sport.

The 7-game-long preliminary round is too long to keep the strongest teams interested the whole time. And yea, Canada sent their D-roster and entered this tournament with low expectations but still, the Canada-Denmark game was one of the last games of the preliminary round last year. Everyone just waiting for the quarterfinals. Still nothing away from Norway. They played very well and deserved to win.
