Thank you that was exactly the video I was looking for. I was concerned about proving to the inspector that it’s been done correctly. Do you recommend putting a tamper torque paint? And if so does it matter the color? Do you know if different colors are for different torque ratings?
I just failed a residential inspection because of 110.14(d). I'm waiting for the inspector to call back to see what he wants, but I'm wondering the same. 25 yrs as a licensed electrician and I've never been called out on torqueing my lugs/connections. Maybe he just wants to see paint - I guess I'll just hold my breath until he calls.
I've noticed on Square D main breakers (150amp, 200amp) that they have tightened up the space so that one needs to use a long hex or a ball end hex socket otherwise the socket body jams against the breaker body....just couple mm of extra space would have been appreciated there...

Do you know what sizes of hex wrenches are required, in this panel was 3/16 and 5/16 (I heard that 3/8 is also used sometimes), and if we could also use mm instead of inch
5/16 and 3/8 hex are the common sizes. 9mm = almost 3/8 inch. 10mm = just over 3/8 inch. 5/16" = 8 mm approximately.

Hi Andrew! It varies by brand. Most companies state in right on the breaker but it might be in very small print.
Is the torque measurement supposed to be done with dry or lubricated threads? Is Noalox a suitable thread lube?
Only if you apply to treads so got that lower alsome pounds or a nm I do recommend applying Nolan to terminal if makes noise while torque or it’s hard to hand tight
I'm curious, - I work in Avionics ( aviation electronics) and everything has to have a cal once a year, AND be labeled class 1,2 or 3. most companies have a cal lab but if you have to calibrate your own tools ( meters, torque devices) its CRAZY expensive, I work 2 jobs and one I pay for my own equipment cals, running me about $4000 to $5000 a year. A typical fluke meter (87V) can run $65 or more to cal each year. will inspectors be asking for yearly cal certs soon ? I wonder...... on another note I have alot of wiha tools and love them but we torque ckt brkrs with the wiha and had real problems with calibration of the driver sticks and went to other brands.

This are just 50. To 100 bucks and get 1/4 inch wrenches with low settings don’t use 3/8 on small screws nothing lower then 12 mm the leverage on the tool itself it’s a big thing to consider look for a venzo and a wheeler screwdriver
What happens if you over torque copper by hand?
I would say it might distort the round shape of the copper.
The solid cable becomes flattened. Stranded cable becomes cold welded to itself.
Electricity passes through the conductors.
It causes hot spots.

I don't want a torque wrench that requires batteries. I don't want a torque screwdriver that requires a separate small tool to adjust it - something to get dropped or misplaced like drill chuck keys. Just a good, accurate tool with an adjusting collar makes for more sense to me. Why add gadgets when they add nothing? I don't need a WiFi connected coffee cup, etc.

So we don’t just tighten the snot out of the big lugs? I guess it’s time we got serious about torquing these screws to spec. Officially torque wrenches need to be calibrated periodically though. More work for everyone.

@@SparkyChannel ... maybe the electronic ones need to be checked, but my old mechanical ones that I've had for 40+ years are still spot on.
@@rupe53 and they're supposed to be checked every so often, usually 5000 clicks or 12 months.
@@ClayGravil ... hey, if it's got a battery it needs to be checked more often in my book. My point is that a good quality tool will last if you treat it right.... and mine have never needed to be adjusted.
