  • As a former violinist, this is genuinely impressive I'm glad you decided to focus alot on your bow hold, because an improper bow hold is a nightmare to break. And I'm also glad you decided to work on your tone instead of jumping straight into vibrato, a lot of new players just jump straight into vibrato and that just becomes a detriment to their overall playing, All in all, you made an amazing and huge improvement in only 30 days. If anything, I encourage you to keep at it, you've got real potential

      @christianlawagonbato11@christianlawagonbato11 Жыл бұрын
    • @@christianlawagonbato11 All I can really say is practice, alot I would take proper sessions to just get comfortable holding the bow. Practice on a pencil if you have to, but make sure you are doing a proper bow hold. My teacher taught me to shake your hand out and then relax your hand and that's as proper as a bow hold as you can get. Don't hold the bow extremely tight, nor hold it too loosely, it has to be just right. It can seem quite daunting at first, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be start playing in no time! I hope you keep at it!

    • @Retri There are several things that could be at play there. 1. You are not moving the bow in a straight line, keeping consistent pressure on the strings, and/or not playing fast enough. 2. You forgot to wipe the strings off after practicing. Rosin build-up on the strings can heavily impact the sound of your instrument. 3. Your strings are not in good condition. I generally recommend replacing the strings when you just buy one, even if they work fine. You will never know the mileage of your strings and even less so of used ones. Plus you can guarantee the best sounding ones for you as compared to the stock ones.

  • Violist and violin teacher here! Let me get you some things to know as you continue you journey! 1. you're using a lot of shoulder as you bow, open and close your elbow, also it sounds squeaky since you're putting too much weight when you bow 2. Shoulder rest (you called it a neck rest, never heard of it called that!) they aren't needed to play but really should be used when you play it just helps hold it up, it's something that never goes away 3. Vibrato: DO NOT ATTEMPT FOR AT LEAST 2 YEARS BARE MINIMUM it takes A LOT of strength that beginners don't have, I didn't learn until 3 years in 4. finger tapes: USE THEM, the whole point of them is to help train your fingers where to go! after playing for ~5 years I still have my 3rd finger tape, memorizing where they go is one thing but memorizing where they go incorrectly is another. I think you're intonation is pretty good for your level, but have someone who knows what they're doing (ie. local music shop) put tapes on. they do not make you look stupid, I promise they help 5. Question, I notice you have one fine tuner, was this a hand me down violin? beginner violins don't usually have one as it's easier to tune 6 KEEP PRACTICING!! remember, practice makes permanent, not perfect. the more you practice the better you will sound, but make sure you give it 110% every single time so you sound confident when you play for others. I would also recommend taking at least 2 lessons from a professional, they'll help you fix anything :) I believe in you! you show a lot of promise in the 30 days alone and I think you will make a phenomenal violinist! If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them!

    • @@potatofries1942 absolutely! violins and lessons can cost a good bit of money, so I'd talk to your parents about it but you can always ask for money at holidays and your birthday and things like that instead of gifts. If your school has an orchestra, I'd either talk to the director in person or email them and ask how you can get started. Since you said you have no background in music, I'm going to assume you aren't too familiar with music theory either. There are a lot of resources that can help you read music on KZhead and I know there are many quiz websites as well to test your knowledge and help you learn and grow. If you have any questions at all let me know, I would be more than happy to answer them! best of luck on your journey! :)

  • Hi! First of all, I just want to congratulate you on your amazing progress; when I started playing the Violin, It took me more than 30 days just to get the violin balance on my shoulder. Now, I've been playing for a good 5 years, and I just want to give you some tips. Something that I noticed in the very beginning is that you had a violin with one fine tuner, that gold thing near the bottom of your Violin where the string ends. For a beginner, I highly recommend having 4 of those. The Violin you had is what a professional would use. But I also noticed that you got a new one, later on, an amazing choice. And to be honest, there was really nothing wrong I could find. Happy practicing!

Use finger tapes, I still have them after three years and they really help. Most important thing, keep practicing!! My suggestion, should you choose to apply it, would be to overall carry out the scale practices as you are doing, and focus on relaxing the bow hand a bit more, relax the grip. Relax is key to playing. Id suggest keep practicing two maybe three years before attempting a vibrato, took me about two and a half, I highly recommend trying to keep your arm outwards and using less of the shoulder rest. Overall great work!!

  • if you keep working on ur bowing u will sound even more great! Impressed by your good intonation and ofcourse how fast you improved :). If you consider to keep playing more, make sure not to raise ur shoulder on both arms, and practice standing to prevent back pain x)

  • As a professional violinist playing for 9 years now. You play like how I played after 4 years. The moment you loosen up and the tnesion in your right hand is gone, you will have a tone on par with many violinists. Good job learning it in 30 DAYS!

  • Really wanted to see a musician (who plays another instrument) learning violin... I play electric guitar for 17 years and i really want to learn violin so i wanna see how it works out when you already know musical theory and both instruments share a bit of the techniques like vibratos,slides,legatos,hammer-ons that you guys call trills i guess,double stops,etc ... Ive also noticed there's a technique in violin where you bounce the bow on the strings...i feel that'd be like a "gallop" on guitar..

  • As a 65 yr old semi-retired adult who has decided to learn the violin, THIS gave me hope that it's not a hopeless quest. Well done.

  • As a beginner violinist ive been practicing the violin for 4 months now and fr tho you’ll improve and learn faster if you practice a couple of hours a day i’ll recommend 5 or 6 hours is enough, i know it can be tiring and it’ll hurt your muscles too lol, but its worth it, keep going guys!

  • I would focus on intonation. It would be a good idea to buy an rcm technique book to work on scales and etudes. Good job!

  • you should do another 30 days on the violin I could see you doing really well on the violin just keep in mind that you need to have a loose wrist to help with flow and speed with your right hand.
