TUKONG HISTORY:
Tukong Moosul is a traditional style of martial art. Grandmaster Wonik Yi holds a 9th-degree black belt and is the creator of Tukong Moosul and founder of the World Tukong Moosul Federation.
Tukong Moosul is both a very new style and one whose history can be directly traced back over 1200 years. Grandmaster Wonik Yi grew up in the Dae Yeon Sa (Great Achievement Temple) from age 5 until 19. During those 14 years, he was taught Buddhism, Philosophy, and a powerful martial art form that had no specific name.
In South Korea, military service is compulsory - so at age 19, Grandmaster left the temple to complete his civic duty. During his time there, he had the opportunity to showcase his powerful and effective martial arts and was eventually asked to develop a training system for the Special Forces under the command of General Chang Ki Oh. Taking the name of his unit, Tukong Moosul was born.
In 1982 Grandmaster Yi moved to Austin, Texas, and began teaching his blend of what he learned in the temple, and the training system he devised for the Special Forces.

    • What i find very interesting is none of the masters shown on this video are any of Master Yi's orginal students, wonder what became of them? I met Master Yi in 1982 and started training with him in the park before he had his first school - i was his 8th American student trained with him from 82 to 86 when i moved back to San Antonio ( family emergency) left as a red belt. Soon met a man who introduced me to European martial arts train with him for 30 yrs before he died. He awarded me a Professors rank in 2013. Is Master Yi still living in Austin or did he move back to Korea ( it was his plan to return to Korea when i knew him. (I dont use my real last name on my You Tube account.) But he should know who was his orginal 8th American student.

But helps me learn that martial arts is the way of life to keep a person healthy, mentally strong and learn to treat people properly and learning respect. Good Luck to anyone who wants to learn martial arts and also those who still do martial arts keep it up, Have a good day.

I was most pleased to see the end of the video that you stuck with it. @alfred4407@alfred4407 Жыл бұрын
    • @@alfred4407 because when I began it was 1979 and none of those other things were available (other than boxing). And my comment was meant in a purely positive waiy. Why did you ask me such a question? The way you phrased it says a lot more about you than it does about me. And in all those years I have trained with other practitioners from a great variety of martial arts. (And where did I say that's all I trained in?) I was around when Bruce Lee first popularized the radical idea of cross training. And I have been able to adapt everything I learned to become a very "practical" martial artist. IRL. And if you watch the video the young lady was training in a very traditional karate style from what I saw. I commented because I saw an impressive young lady do something that most people never will.

I live in Seoul and one of my students practices TM so this intro. will help I think to help me talk to him about his art (in English). Personally, I prefer the southern Chinese and Okinawan versions of the martial arts...but the most important thing is probably that you enjoy whatever it is that you do. Nice to see too that your school has so many instructors and students...here in Korea, because of the "virus" many smaller schools are really struggling.

    • Most _"traditional"_ Korean martial arts have their origins in the Japanese occupation. *Tang Soo Do* for example is essentially Shotokan Karate with Korea's spectacular kicks added. The Nippon overlords forbade the practice of actual historical Korean styles and many died out, sadly. Tukong Moosul only came into being in 1945 just after the occupation ended. There's some KZhead videos on *Taekkyeon* which is a much older art.

    • I like how simple she kept the video too. It was nice and EASY SO EASY just to watch her growth and development in the martial art. Since she is a fast learner (at least according to that female instructor) it worked out well and faster for her to get everything down quicker - for me though to learn a martial arts would probably take me getting yelled at, getting push ups because I can't learn "it fast enough" according to some martial arts senseis, renshis, etc and that alone is why I would be so scared to get back into martial arts--I would definitely need to have a patient instructor who wouldn't want to insult me, kill me, etc over not getting things down fast enough. As I was watching the video and seeing the girl practice in her room or wherever she was practicing that's where I really knew she got her training down a lot and it was really really nice to see her getting things down and that she learned and developed herself more in the martial art. This is exactly how I would need my journey to be if I was to get involved in a martial art - some people suffer from instructors being hard on their students for being slow, not learning fast enough, etc. For me to learn a few kicks, punches, blocks, etc would take a few weeks I would think (knowing how slow I am to learn things--things just don't click right away and it may take me like 1000000000 times before things start to click--I also have to forget what I learned and then try to relearn it again to finally have things click - that's the only way I could or would learn something but with martial arts I wonder if I would get the chance to learn things the way I need to). Anyway I really liked this video and she seemed happy learning martial arts--good for her. I can bet in a few years she will be a black belt--I'd say under 10 years she would definitely be one--it was interesting too to see or know how the different styles are basically or can be an adaptation from a or other styles. I really liked this video a lot. It was really nice to watch.

  • I think what you're doing is awesome, and empowering yourself with an additional martial art is a tool that will follow you forever. I've been at it 9 years now, been a black belt for the last 3 years, BUT I wouldn't have allowed you to test after 30 days. I get it, you're doing this for your channel, and kudos to you, I wish your channel the best of luck. The reason being, 30 days is not enough to have the basics (stances, strikes, blocks, etc.) of the system ingrained into you; the basics of any system take time to get. Don't get me wrong, you having a good martial arts background helps a lot but you need to ask yourself, are you doing yourself a disservice for testing so fast? I like the fact you dedicated yourself going up to two times a day, it shows you weren't doing this just for brownie points. I also like the fact that you videoed yourself making mistakes and wasn't ashamed or embarrassed about showing those mistakes; you just kept going and it shows dedication. Your parents raised you well, and I think you will go far in life.

In the style I practice (Eskrima-Kali-Arnis) we usually do 3 months of training to Yellow belt, then 6 months to Green, 1 year to Red... However, 30 days of training is appropriate for 1st coloured belts, as long as you train thoughtfully, diligently & intensely. Good job!

  • You can't really call or claim something "traditional" if the founder is still alive or only recently passed. Traditional has to go back countless decades or centuries. Also, except for Taekkyon, there is no such thing as a "traditional" Korean martial art. Every modern Korean art except for the latter only goes back to 1944 and after and is based on Japanese systems. Tang Soo Do was founded in 1944 by Won Kuk Lee who was a student of Shotokan karate. Kong Soo Do was Koreanized Shudokan karate. Kumdo comes from Kendo. Hapkido comes from Daito-ryu Aikijutsu. Taekwondo (founded circa 1956/57, not 2000 years ago) is based on Tang Soo Do and Kong Soo Do. Hwarang-do and Kuk Sool Won have roots in Hapkido, thus Daito-ryu ancestry. Did the Koreans add some things of their own? Yes. But those Japanese roots are still in there. During the Japanese occupation on the Korean peninsula the Korean arts were outlawed. However, they were allowed to train in Japanese systems. To me this looks like a mix of Hapkido and Taekwondo with some Okinawan Matayoshi Kobudo (weapons) thrown in. I find it hard to believe that it's a martial art that _"that had no specific name"_ and goes back 1200 years. Its like TSD and TKD claiming to be 2000 years old when we now know it was created by Korean masters who had trained in Japan during the 1930s and 40s. For the record I'm not saying that neither the people who practice this system or the art itself aren't legit. It's just that history-wise I'd be cautious about believing it at face value based on what we now know about the history of modern Korean arts and especially when there's only one source. It's a well known fact that many Koreans left South Korea as 2nd or 3rd Dan and once their plane landed in the west were 6th Dan or above. Not saying the grandmaster of this art did it, just that it did with others. I say that as someone with over 3 decades of experience in both Korean martial arts and jiu-jitsu. I grew up hearing about my arts' histories which were later proven to be untrue. By the way, it's nunchaku not nunchucks. Also the belt system (and uniform) was created by judo in the 1880s. It's not centuries old and each belt doesn't have any philosophical meaning.

    @barrettokarate@barrettokarate Жыл бұрын
    • @Lucas Alves yeah haha same

      @lori_2168@lori_2168 Жыл бұрын
    • @Lucas Alves Karate is actually a Chinese Martial arts tracing back to White Crane Kung Fu, after the war they were trying to push the Japanese identity and to do that karate the name was born. There was no uniform if you look back to the original masters of karate they wore white tshirts and black pants or old Chinese clothes. The time where the founder of Shotokan brought over the system to Japan he was asked to make it more Japanese and that is where he met Kano the founder of Judo and he suggested they started using the karate Gi which is a lighter version of the Judo Gi. The best system was also adopted from the Judo system. So anyone claiming there is a spiritual meaning to these ranks is full of it. Which is also why karate is really called karate do and judo is called ju do. Originally judo is just several forms of jujutsu merged together to make Kano jujutsu but being after war times they wanted to make martial arts less "martial" or war like so the term "do" was used instead. Jutsu means skill, do means philsophy. Other words you may be familiar with is kendo sword philosophy as opposed to kenjutsu. "Gichin Funakoshi (1868-1957), founder of Shotokan style and widely recognized as the father of modern karate, in an effort to make karate more accepted by the Japanese people and further spread the art in mainland Japan, decided to adopt the belt and ranking system from Judo."

  • If you're training a martial art at a dojo that has little to no sparring, get the hell out of there. If you want to learn to defend yourself properly, you need to be pressure tested. All of this open air stuff will just make you over confident. A real opponent isn't going to strike once then stop coming at you so you can use a 'move' on them. Full body-low/no face attack sparring is going to actually help you if a scary situation actually happens. In 30 days it looks like they barely had you even touch another person, let alone actually try to fight. I hate to see people getting into martial arts without ever actually sparring for years at a time, then thinking they can actually protect themselves.
