For all the work they put choreographing the hand to hand scenes, they do not compare to the best. The most credible female fight scenes I have watched were the part of the fights of Atomic Blond at the apartment. She wins by thinking fast and finding a tool rapidly, manages to fight while it is just hitting each other and loses when the guy grabs her, but wins when she manages to escape the grab and uses her agility to avoid being grabbed. She knows she can keep fighting stronger opponents as long as they cannot take advantage of their strength and weight. When she hits somebody on the face with a bronze lamp, when she stabs somebody with a piece of glass, when she uses her empty gun as a hammer, all looks so believable the mind takes it in without overthinking. She even displays more pain than the guys, but manages to overcome the pain, finds something and uses it to hurt the opponent. Of course, a movie is a movie, all made up, just saying once you see something that does make so much sense in the minimal detail, the rest falls short.

The Megan Anderson fight against Yaz was a little more believable, even though in her MMA carrier she couldn't beat other girls... Nik's only realistic "fight scene" was when she shot the bad guy in the bathroom at the end of the first movie.
@wreckingrich37883 ай бұрын
Interesting. But you do not have a critique on what our male protagonist endures? This one man army? How many falls he takes, how many injuries? How many enemies he takes on? That doesn't bother you? He is fighting multiple opponents at once in several scenes. How realistic is that? Ask a bouncer or corrections officer what he thinks about taking on multiple opponents at the same time, again and again. Or the way they just clear builing after building alone in some movies. There is a nice interview with Kyle Morgan, a Delta Force Operative who helped out when the Indian Hotel got stormed by Terrorists in the 2015 Bamako hotel attack. Compare the cautious approach by this man, a member of one of the best trained groups at close quarter combat with what you see regulary in movies. How he is being held up by some terrorists holding a staircase with some AKs and Grenades. Believe me, what Nik Khan is doing is no less realistic than whats going on in the movie at all times by the male actors. They survive incredible injuries, they walk of pain, they ignore damaged tissues and torn muscles just to walk, run and shoot again in the next scene.
@mephisto81013 ай бұрын
I wasn't talking about the falls. A tiny unathletic woman would stand absolutely no chance in those situations the Hollywood writers put modern day girl bosses in almost every movie. Perhaps Alias started the trend 20 years ago, I don't know, but these days it is just a silly/cringeworthy trope.
@wreckingrich37883 ай бұрын
@@wreckingrich3788 And that my friend, is the double standard here. No thought about the absolutely unbelievable stuff the males pull of, film after film. But a "women" who fires a rocket launcher or an RPG and has some fights with male soldiers. No, that is too much for you? Really? Because women can't fight? And with women, you mean all of them, categorically. Question: can you fight? Shoot? Rifles, Sub machine Guns, Pistols? Do you know how to grapple, kick and punch? How to fly a helicopter? Handle explosives? In how many fights against multiple opponents have you been? Do you think it is even somenwhat realistic what Tyler pulls of?
@mephisto81013 ай бұрын
The reality of hand to hand combat is even the best female has no chance against a mediocre man regardless of size. And then you in movies the a tiny girl boss beats up men double her size by the dozen... No double standard here.
@wreckingrich37883 ай бұрын
@@wreckingrich3788 Tell me you have no fight experience without telling me you're not having fight experience... Newsflash: not every soldier trains in grappling. And if you have someone trained in grappling, they can do surprising things to people who are untrained. And yes, that can mitigate a lot of body differences. Same goes when weapons are involved, especially knives. We can go on to firearms, were there is not really a practical difference in shooting accuracy between the sexes. But yes, if you talk about striking, there is noticable difference in upper body strength. Comes also to hand in sword fighting. I would consider myself a medium skilled fencer with some medals in my cupboard and can probably beat lots of the female longsword fencers. However, I would never make a statement that I can beat EVERY one of them, as I know for a fact that there are incredibly well trained women out there, who are far more athletic compared to me. Same goes to Jiu Jitsu and graplling. I have been folded up by opponents far below my weight class, men and women. In both cases they had a much higher level of skill and training than me. That is a humbling experience. What you are doing is allowing the hero of the film to be so far above human standards without critique, which seems completely fine to you. But in your world view there is no room for even a single highly skilled women. Is that right?
A well designed female character with actual fluid movements is rare af and they nailed it with her

The reality of hand to hand combat is even the best female has no chance against a mediocre man regardless of size. And then you in movies the a tiny girl boss beats up men double her size by the dozen... No double standard here.
