**New Armoured Audi S8** Prime Minster Rishi Sunak’s motorcade in London!
This video shows the Prime Minster Rishi Sunak’s flashy new ‘whip’, which is an Unmarked, Armoured Audi S8 which will now be his primary transportation vehicle. This is one of the first catches of this vehicle using it’s blue lights in a motorcade. Furthermore, the PM can be seen being escorted from Westminster Abbey (the Deputy Prime Minster, Oliver Dowen stepped in for the PM Rishi Sunak at PMQ's today) and then later being escorted to and from the Conservative HQ!

BMW does have a higher stake in the British car industry with Rolls Royce and Mini, but Audi do own Bentley as well… I guess the range rovers aren’t highly armoured enough for his security detail. The German limousines meet higher ballistic protocols than the range rovers

There is no demand for Armoured Jags anymore, so nobdy makes those, and the Range Rovers dont meet the balistics requirements, so they have to get german cars as they are the only ones available.

I might be old fashioned but anything government or royal family should be a British marque. Jaguar, Bentley, rolls Royce, land/Range Rover & triumph bikes. You can get a jag xx armoured & for years the pm has travelled in a rover or a jag.
I can't remember the exact reasons, but there's something about Brexit that prevented your suggestion.

@@markwarren5515 No it’s not. Different exhaust for one thing. It’s an Audi A8L with considerably better armour than the previous Jaguar XJ. They don’t make a stretched or armoured S8 ✌️
As I said, it’s shown and registered as an S8. That is correct. But yes, it’s an A8L with the S8 engine. Weighs 3.9 metric tonnes, so they put the 4-litre supercharged V8 in it to keep it moving.

So some random bloke with a rucksack on his back gets to walk past part of his security team and seconds later walk back past them again, one of the team seemed a little concerned, looked a bit poor for me.

This is ridiculous! - After the Olympics there was a parade down The Mall, and the then Prime Minister Cameron attended. I was there situated near the Queen Victoria memorial. Afterwards there was a bit of a stir in the crowd, followed by numerous 'suits' and amongst them was Cameron - he was going to walk back to No. 10 through St James's Park - on that occasion no motorcade for him! - So Rishi really needs a small motorcade to transport him a few hundred yards?

One word: reliability. That’s why the Met ditched all the Discoveries in favour of X5s too. Until JLR sort their issues out, government depts will have to continue looking to Germany for their transport needs. Not a problem though as we are Europeans.

@@zeeone4492 well, first of all, there isn't a single proper British car company. They are all owned by Germany or India. Second of all, there aren't any that do OEM armoring, which is very important, because it's far superior to add-on, after-market armoring. It's not about cost, it's about the fact that a normal Jag that you add armor on is way worse at actually protecting than the ones made by car manufacturers in-house, and the only companies still doing that are BMW, Audi, and Mercedes.

These were in trial use well before sunak came to office. They were trying the LHD versions and they just recently went through with the purchase of permenant RHD versions. It just happened at the same time he became prime minister as they were considering buying them for a while
Let's be honest, if any one of us were the PM and had access to the cool stuff we'd enjoy the hell out of it too. It's a legal requirement to have the motorcade and VIP transport so why not make the most of it.

Sadly there is currently no factory-armoured car produced by the UK car manufacturers. Jaguar no longer builds the XJ Sentinel, and Land Rover does not manufacture a new version of what used to be the Range Rover Sentinel (the backup / security car you can see in the video). The only current-generation armoured vehicles by an OEM are the Mercedes S680 Guard (VR10), Audi A8L Security (VR9/10), BMW i7/7-series Protection (VR9/10 electric or ICE) and the BMW X5 Protection (VR6). Most third party armouring companies do not match the overall quality of the OEMs with their included independent certification and production testing. Possibly the only such companies that can produce an OEM-quality armoured vehicle are Welp-Armouring (Germany) or Carat Duchatelet (Belgium), which both are suppliers to the big OEMs. In summary, having a suitable armoured British vehicle would require custom development involving a non-British supplier. A lot of work at a high cost just for show.

@@johnbaldock6353 Non OEM armoured vehicles are considerably worse and almost never fufill the actual requirements. There is a reason why every government only buys the OEM made ones. Jaguar and Land Rover dont make armoured cars anymore. The third party companies that can fufill requirements are considerably more expensive, especially for one of productions of a couple vehicles.
