    • And German cars are built for 150mph not 80mph. So breaking at that speed still means the car will be (somewhat) stable.

  • For those wondering how he kept control, besides the sheer skill this man has, the ESC probably saved this man’s life. It strategically sets off brakes on some wheels at a certain level to prevent the car from spinning out of control. Since it’s introduction, the ESC has saved thousands of lives. It is said that it has saved way more lives than the airbag. VW has this in their vehicles and it is really really good. This is something that only a computer could handle unless you had four brake pedals. This is a win for computers on cars. I think it was introduced somewhere on 1990-something. But on VWs, this thing is really amazing. You can really feel it working. And let’s not forget the electronic steering assist which makes the steering wheel feel “heavier” the faster you drive. All of this along with this man’s skills prevented a mayor accident. Something older cars might not have been able to do. I’m glad this man’s ok.

    • @@pc-pq6es speeding on those highways is perfectly legal even at those speeds, its not always for driving for fun or just speeding the heck cause they can, people uses those roads to get to the point they need to go. Going 240km/h on the furthest left lane is legal but changing lanes dangerously is not. There is a fucking mirror there that you can look for if there is somebody going faster than you and not willing to slow down before switching lanes. This is not even fault of the car we in, all blame for this is the car switching the lanes. Golf was aware in that situation and reacted fairly quick but fucking skoda proceeded to switching lanes after golf signalled it. Not everyone going fast is in blame, sometimes these assholes just become much more dangerous threat.

    • @@cengizteouluyurt7053 Yes, it's legal to drive 240 km/h on the left lane but the driver could get problems for this crash too. In Germany, there is a recommended speed of 130 km/h on ALL parts of the Autobahn. That means you have to match your speed to the traffic on the different lanes, if the highway isn't empty like in the video this speed could count as reckless driving because he was way over 130 km/h. If the driver has bad luck he probably get's a ticket and a part of the fault (and has to pay the damage on his car himself because of that).

    • He actually marked the sign for unrestricted stretch ahead so yeah, he is in the right. This is the worst nightmare driving fast on the Autobahn. I had two situations I can remember when people abrubtly pulled out in front of me like that at about 200km/h and I had to immediately ABS break, almost hitting them. One of those times was less than a meter. Both times they pulled out to overtake lorries so like 80km/h less than me, once without signal, once with the classic signal-and turn-at-once. More times than that, maybe 3, I high beamed people that I might not have evaded and they mamanged to jerk back in lane. And my lesson is this: I don't overtake with a high speed difference anymore, especially in dense traffic. An old friend of my mom was a professional race driver. He never drives fast in traffic. He said: When I race on track I know the people around me are professionals. On the road every idiot drives around, some with no clue or awareness and some indoxicated or distracted. You can be right and dead fast. It's just not fucking worth it man.

I don't know German rules, but they likely don't require MIND READING. That said, there's a big difference between _legal duty_ and _best practices_ (especially at high speed). You can be legally "in the right" and still have a banged-up car that you now have the (seemingly) unending hassle of getting fixed. Of greatest interest to me is (a) did the other driver stop / pull over? (b) If he/they didn't, do you simply give the video (and hopefully license tag of the at-fault car) to your insurance company and they sort it out? Does the VW / left lane driver need to file an accident / incident report with police?

The procedure is that you must turn on the turn signal indicator and it must blink atleast 3 times, AND you dont start your lane change until after you put the blinker on. So not only did he fail to see that there was a car in the lane he wanted to change to, he also failed to signal his intentions to other motorists. HAD he indicated before moving, the car that he merged into, would have had more time to react, and to know that the driver was indeed intending to change lanes.

I really enjoyed the Autobahn when I was there, think I'd reticent now about rolling along at 250km/hr with so many immigrants in the country sharing the road.
