An investigation is casting a shadow over the athletics scene in China after a seemingly rigged half-marathon in Beijing sparked a debate over the race's results.
Footage widely shared on social media showed Chinese runner He Jie crossed the finish line.
Speculations are abound over whether the other runners intentionally slowed down to facilitate his victory.
The 2023 Asian Games Marathon gold medalist won the race by just one second, beating competitors from Kenya and Ethiopia.

To think that he bought this race to put another medal is just laughable considering how unimportant this race is in the international circuit and shows how ignorant and manipulatable keyboard warriors are to propaganda. When Eliud broke the world marathon record, he paid 41 pacers.

Nothing wrong here. They ran as a team. They were the first four to complete the half marathon. They didn't mind who should reach the finishing line first because they ran as a team.

Selection of an athlete to represent his country in the coming Olympics is based on qualifying time, not for winning the Beijing half marathon event. Anyway, he failed to break the national record in the Bejing Half Marathon, which was his goal.

I'd be checking the bank accounts of the Kenyan runners for recent deposits and where they came from. Another fact of the race is that the Kenyan's didn't even try to win 2nd and 3rd place. I suppose if you're going to get a whole wad of cash it doesn't matter where you place?

There is no official list of pacers in this event as per SCMP reported. They look into it. Also the pacers have different bib. It is to distinguished them from actual runners but in this instance they wore the same bib.
