••• ABOUT THIS VIDEO •••
For quite a while now I have been planning this 1 month trip to Svalbard, and now finally the time has come. I spent the first week together with my dad, and we had a wonderful time.
I have been on a 4-day solo trip to a remote fiord to find and photograph wildlife.
This is the last video in my series from Svalbard. I am on a remote location together with Robin Levin from Nikon Professional Services to hopefully find and photograph birds and wildlife.
So far we have been lucky to find reindeer, birds and a polar bear to photograph. This is the last day and while I did not have a lot of expectations, I have to say this day turned out very good. Last moment luck I would say.
Happy watching and stay tuned for the next video.
••• WHO I AM •••
My name is Morten Hilmer and I am a professional nature and wildlife photographer.
I am a Nikon Ambassador and I work as an ILCP photographer.
Nature conservation is very close to my heart.
I have served in the Danish military special unit, the Sirius Patrol, for two years and that has given me the skills and confidence to operate alone in the arctic regions. I have spent two further years in the northern parts of Greenland meeting the local people and working on photography projects. My driving force is a sense of adventure and my fascination for nature, and my curiosity and empathy for other cultures has led me to many remote regions.
Beside being featured in publications and in my books books my photographs have been awarded in the Wildlife photographer of the year and European Wildlife photographer of the year photo competitions.

All the best
Morten Hilmer
I do not think Nikon could find any better ambassdor than Morten Hilmer, always sharing form his big knowlege. You are a big inspiration to all of us:)............
very true. had i watched Marten's videos before choosing the system it would be N probably even without thinking about it. Nikon should sprinkle Morten with the latest gear :)
Oh thank you so much - What a lovely compliment:)
Totally!
You hit the nail firmly on the head.
True 👌
I am a simple man. I see Mortens video notification, I click!
Everyone else: "This weather sucks, I'm going home." Morten: "Kinda like this weather."
Lol
LMAO, my first thought 🤭
I just hate when it ends man.. I’ve been refreshing KZhead everyday waiting for you to post a new video.. and i instantly look at the length of the video hoping for a 45 min long one ( wishful thinking). Ive been connected to wildlife since i was a boy, and over the las year ive reconnected to it when i picked up my first camera Nikon z6. When i found you ive been hooked every since. Ive been going through so much since my daughter passed away two years ago, and you as a person, as a human, your personality, your passion for wildlife, these videos, they are so therapeutic for my mental health.. i was going threw some mental challenges this week and i was on KZhead everyday hoping Morten put up the next video.. thank you for being a beautiful creation of our God/Creator.. sharing your life and story with us. Much love to you my brother
Thank you so much for writing this heart warming comment. I am really grateful. Thank you so much. I am looking forward to sharing many more adventures with you. All the best Morten
A cup of coffee, a comfy chair and a new upload from Morten, what a lovely treat for a Sunday afternoon 🥰
The best Moment at 10:14 when the fox spotted the guy with the Camera. He looks up and he is thinking: Oh it is Morton Hilmer from Denmark. No reason for panic and I can relax myself.Love this.
Mr HIlmer, Never STOP doing this you make people like me believe in magic
Morten is probably Nikon’s best ambassador. Worthy of the equipment and an incredible human. Keep up the work Morten!
Absolutely superb footage. Most Z9 buyers are going to throw a panic attack if they get a single spec of mud or drop of water on their kit, and yet you show exactly how tough it has been built 😁
One of the big considerations I had when debating on getting a Nikon even though I don’t really go out in bad weather. I couldn’t decide between canon r6 or Nikon z6ii. I went with canon, but I have a month to decide if I want to keep it. I’m just a hobbyist so there’s nothing spec wise that I really need. But I the autofocus is what swung me towards canon for now. I do like how all of nikons lenses are WR where as canon only L glass has WR
Thinking the same thing!
Thought that too.
The difference is that Nikon will give him a new camera for free and most photographers must pay for their equipment.
This was such an amazing series and Nikon couldn't wish for a better ambassador. 😊 Loved the footage and photos of the arctic fox and how it didn't really care about your presence. My favourite being the first photo with that beautiful backdrop. Whispers: Please put it in your 2023 calendar😉. I'm already intrigued by the next video!
Thank you so much Pica - I will definitely have that photo in mind for the 2023 calendar:)
That fox is so cute. And look at it's camouflage. It almost perfectly blends with the rocks
No one should worry about this camera being tough enough for wildlife photography. This has been a great video series. You got great images. This could be edited into a feature length film.
Another Sunday treat. I love the Svalbard Series badge you have in the thumbnail
If anybody needs the definition of a man, well there it is. This guy is all real. I spent eight years in the Marine Corps and lived under the harshest conditions on the planet but Morten puts himself there for photographs. I'm seriously impressed.
It's amaizing how you can give an emotional ending to "a YT video", great job as usual! Such an inspiration
I wish this series never ends... Thank you Morten.
Sir Morten H: Wilderness - 9 Willpower - 10 Courage - 8 Macro shots - 8 Long Shot - 10 Drone Movement - 8.5 Video Editing - 8 Vlogging - 9 Audio - 8 👏👏👏
propably the hardest field test a new camera can be taken to ;-)
I had to stop and put this on my big screen my computer was not doing this justice. Unbelievably gorgeous scenery and the little fox was a super cute way to end this little series
I don't know how you do it Morten. Every single time you touch my soul as nothing else does. Keep it up budy, there's none like you.
The little fox is adorable. Thank you Morten for this brilliant series and thanks to all the support group. 👍 This has been the highlight of the year for me. 💕 God bless you. 🙏
I can't believe you can just have the camera and lens out there in the rain for such a long time! That impressive.
Great ending. Loved the dedication to all and the brief information about Svalbard. Really enjoyed the drone footage. Nice that it was a success.
This is why Nikon gear is so good! It isn’t just designed for features, it’s meant to be used in the most rugged terrain and poor weather conditions. 👍
I haven't watched the whole video yet, but i already feel nostalgic. ❤❤❤. You are awesome Morten
Time to make a cuppa tea 🥰🥰
I love the opening... it's like the beginning of Never Cry Wolf. One of my all-time favorite films. What a great environment to really run the Z9 through its paces! I'm binge-watching all videos on the Z9 while I wait for mine to ship :) Thank you for this truly extraordinary production!!! Thumbs up and I wish you all the best and am already subscribed. Truly exceptional.
nice, how you just left the camera outside in the rain!
This is the only channel I don’t mind square space ads Lol
I thoroughly enjoyed armchair-traveling with you in my warm studio, lol. Much appreciation for your efforts.
Hey Morten! I could not refrain myself from making a comment. I'm tottaly with you, when you are conscious about animals resting for a bit, and decide to respect it. But man! you make my hair stand when you put your expensive gear on the rocks, let it freeze and get wet. I gues, that is part of being a great photographer. I care too much for my inexpensive camera and lenses, but seldomly make a good shot. Although the part that made me subscribe, is your respect for wildlife. I just love animals. Thanks for caring.
Thanks Morten! This entire series has been a colossal treat!
They are really (and semi-subtly) pointing out the great weather proofing of the Nikon/Nikkor setup. Without actually saying anything most of the shots show the camera and lens soaking wet!
Sunday evening with the family and a new episode of your adventure in Svalbard…What more can you ask for 😉? Greetings from Lucerne 🤗
Hey Luca - so nice to hear from you. I hope you are all having a great time. I have a few trips for this winter, and then afterwards, I would love to come and visit you again:)
May I simply say, I am inspired! Thank you!
Hi Hilmer. I know its a older video and u propably not going to see this message but... U are an inspiration for me. What u doing out there is phenomenal. Every one of ur videos is entertaining and when it ends im looking for another one. This series was very special. U given me inspiration for the future. Thank u
Morten an other great video. Wildlife photography in the truest sence. No help from vehicles, no spotters, true wilderness and the ability to think on your feet and look after your self, much like being alone high up in the Canadian Artic which you have experienced. Great production value. Love the wonderful images of that fox in this video. Take care.
The fox footage is almost hypnotic🙌🏻. The transitions at the end as he goes behind the rocks is great 😊
The quality of this content is astounding
If this video doesn't sell the camera i don't know what will. Nikon has a winner in the z9. Wildlife shooters regularly pay 5k or 10k for a piece of gear just to make that 'one picture' that haunts their vision. The z9 fits your picture making just fine Morten.
As a fairly new photographer that shoots with the nikon D3400 mr Morten is a huge inspiration!
I love your content. the drone shots at the end with the rousing soundtrack was really emotional.
Morton you have so grown. I see it has changed from just a year ago. Make me sad that I am to old to reach deep into nature safely. I truly enjoy your work. Thank you, Rick
As a young, amateur photographer, your videos are both incredible and inspirational. You can make a clip of coffee being poured or shoelaces being tied into something much more interesting. Thank you Mr Hilmer, much love from England.
Morten - those arctic fox images are absolutely beautiful!! 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
This was heartwarming. I do understand that it's sometimes nice to just go outside in this conditions - wind, rain, snow, and everything in-between... God bless modern membrane clothes which allows you to feel yourself like that fox, chilling in this conditions.
Fantastic video and series! It is always great when Morten posts a new video no matter the subject or location. Nikon made a good decision choosing Morten as an ambassador, great representative for the Nikon brand. Best channel on KZhead!!
Yesterday I fell off the ladder at work twice, crazy tricky job. Bruised and cut, wet, cold and tired but I carried on. Today you made me cry at the beauty you capture and the conditions you work in that make my day seem like a breeze. Incredible work. Properly blown away. Thank you
Only thing I didn't like was the video ended. I almost felt like being there with you in the Arctic. What an amazing series you created...Nikon must be proud of having such a an amazing ambassador. Thanks for this awesome series.
You are soaring at great heights my friend
Not only a fantastic video and photography but also the music you choose is always PERFECT...
Magical footage of the arctic fox. Thank you for this brilliant series.
It´s unbelievable how good these videos are! That video recording of the artic fox is one of the cutest things I´ve ever seen!!! I wish the next episode was already online...
It's time to dream and come down with Morten... your videos are so amazing. You show us the beauty of life and nature. Thank you so much for the trip on your side!!!🙏
Good to know that the f to z lens converter “FTZ” does not compromise the quantity of to f mount lenses. I shoot with 2 d850’s can’t wait to get my hands on a Z9
Congratulations Morten for the excelent videos from the Svalbard adventure!
You have paid your dues, now you are reaping the benefits, well done.
Fantastic footage in a mystical location! Hats off to all the Nikon ambassadors who stuck with Nikon through uncertain times and to be ultimately rewarded with the worlds best camera!
Awesome, Amazing, Wonderful. Thank you for allowing me to be on this journey.
Best thing when you get home from work and you see a new upload! Thank you!
VERY VERY VERY NICE!......Totally enjoyed it and learned just how much rain and sand the Nikon gear can tolerate and keep on working. Thanks so much to all who helped make this possible, Ted in Sebastian, Florida
Fantastic video. Love the fox footage and particularly the still with the fox standing on the ridge.
Best nature photo/videos on KZhead. Thanks again for taking the time to document your adventures.
This video makes me want to have coffee... so chill !
Morten, Thanks for inspiring me and my wife Luana! We live in the south cone of America and having photographed Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia, Falkland Is and Shetlands twice, we feel there is a lot more to be done! See you out there! Love, Julio Zenkner & Luana.
Morten, you are one of the few true wildlife photographers on KZhead! Great inspiration! Doing the same, but on a much smaller scale, I can't imagine such kind of photography without spending night in a tent, without feeling a full cycle of nature with a beauty of a different weather, seasons, time of the day, after all. And you have all of it in your life! That's amazing! Keep sharing it with us please! It's so nice to watch your videos, especially when not being able to feel a portion of it myself on a weekend...
You have come a long way my friend from that little fox in that little forrest near your house in your fotoblind... or that ghost of the mountain stag somewhere in Schotland along the way in a camper and heavy rain. I'll still watch those video's from time to time. They are a inspiration for me and i added these ones to the collection. Just great!
Both of the fox pictures with the water (drinking/walking) are amazing. I love foxes, they look so cuddly and playful.
Hey Morten, Well done! I like you and your chanel so much. Your videos are so motivating! Because of you, I started wildlife photography and founded a KZhead channel. Thanks!👍🏻
You inspired me to do my own Wildlife photography adventure. I want to have a peace of history for my family when i’m gone i’m still young wich makes it fun to see old footage i imagine in 20/30 years.
There is no better way to start the day with a warm cup of coffee and a video from Morten. This series is next level in storytelling, nature photography and videography. Looking forward to hear your comments on the Z9 and watching your next adventure. Thank you.
Gents, absolutely stunning work. Well done all, and thank you!
Goosebumps. What a majestic place!
That first picture with the fox in this video, just magic. Thank you Morten for the quality and work you put in to this videos, just amazing and so beautiful. Bless you.
what a location, with all that light and glow, spectacular!
Thank you so much for this incredible série Morton. I have enjoy every moment. What a great surprise to see you in action with the Nikon Z9 in those harsh climatic conditions. Be safe and I hope the best for your next projects.
Thank you Morten for taking us all with you and showing the beauty of such a unique and un-disturbed place. Your enthusiasm and respect for nature is truly an inspiration to all that will listen. Your "real life" example of what it means to be a nature and wildlife photographer is refreshing. You demonstrate that the camera gear in your hands is like any other tool... It is there for a purpose like a hatchet or knife, unlike others where it is simply jewelry to keep in a bag, polish and wear around their neck to show off. Thank you for being and inspiration to us all.
Wonderful video, thank you so much. I am going to Svalbard in the summer of 2023 and your set of videos is informative and inspiring and will help me prepare. I should add though, that although the Nikon Z9 looks like a wonderful camera, I do feel that the results you obtained could also have been obtained with the top-of-the-line cameras from Canon, Olympus and perhaps Sony. It seems to me that the results you obtained will justifiably warm the hearts of Nikon users but I don't see users from the other camera lines switching. Of course, other features of the Z9 are unique and might lead to photographers switching to this camera but specifically the wildlife photography in difficult conditions that you have demonstrated can also be achieved with the R3, EM1X, and possibly A1. Thank you for showing how to obtain such wonderful photos in such an interesting habitat.
A pleasure to watch. Such a totally different climate and environment to ours here in Australia.
The soundtrack and the landscape at the end remind me the lord of the rings movies
Beautifully done Morten, I agree with WM Nikon couldn't have found a better ambassador for their new camera. Can't wait to hear your thoughts as well on the Z9 soon.
perfect interaction with Audience doesn't exist... morten : hold my coffee ☕❤️❤️❤️❤️
Excellent series Morton. Thanks for taking me along.
Yes! The new video online. Amazing again Morten. You are such an inspiration to all of us. Thanks for sharing. You made my day😊
Dear Nikon, I have the Z9 on pre order. I want a Z9, but Morten has shown that we all need one. Hoping mine arrives before I don the swim trunks and tank tops for the rough harsh conditions of Oahu in May.
OMG, I've got a big lump in my throat after watching this video, the wildlife we have in the world is amazing, the mountains and glaziers where spectacular this is definitely for me the best video I've watched I take my hat off to you Morten amazing work please keep the films coming Thanks Paul Uk
Absolutely superb ...Morten, you are an inpiration. I never see such a brilliant footage from a polar fox. I love the equipment, this gigantic tele and the (want to have new Nikon) Can´t wait for more content. best regards from Germany
Great mini series Morten, you at your best 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Morten, you bring the viewer with you, such real life situations. All through this series I have been totally absorbed by your technique and story telling in some inhospitable environment. My original interest was the goal of your project, the Z9 in Svalbard, but I found myself more and more just awestruck by the content of each video and how you managed in Svalbard. Some 46 years ago I was there, a young photographer with a limited amount of film You have rekindled the memories of that trip. Thank you for this and your awesome channel (love the BTS personal touch).
Fantastic Morten, what an great adventure,, the glacier footage was amazing..! thank you.
My friend there is no one.. no one that shares the love.. passion & respect for the natural world and wildlife as you do! watching your work is like having a key to a world of beauty.. good taste ... love for animals and the outdoors... simply superb. You are an amazing photographer and storyteller, but even better: you are an amazing soul! Thank you for inspiring all of us .. photographers & filmmakers alike. Looking forward to your next YT presentation! Thank you!!!!!
Great video and stunning imagery as always Morten, beautiful shots of the Arctic Fox.
What an incredible series this was. From the videography to the photography to the presentation, every part was exquisite. I've been catching up on your channel over the last few days and must say it outclasses every other photography channel I'm subscribed to. Thanks Morten.
Thank you so much Peter. What a compliment. I’m really glad you like to join me on my trips😊
Amazing video, Morten. The Artic Fox was so beautiful.
Fantastic Video from start to finish Loved the Arctic Fox and looking forward to your next adventure.
Such an amazing video it is. One of the greatest ambassador for Nikon. Keep growing Morten!
Great movies Morten, you have something that not only is watched, but you are with you on these expeditions. I thank you for that. greetings
I cannot see how this is much of a test for any camera system. The camera wasn't pushed to any of it's limits at all beyond getting wet..
Your videos are taking on another dimension, and I am so privileged to feel the peace every time I watch them.
You came away with some breath-taking photos! The Z9 has proven itself a worthy member of your team.
