Margot Robbie Takes You Inside The Barbie Dreamhouse | Architectural Digest

Today on AD, Margot Robbie takes us behind the scenes of ‘Barbie’ for an exclusive tour of the Barbie Dreamhouse. When tasked with bringing these iconic childhood toys to life on the big screen, Greta Gerwig enlisted the skills of production designer Sarah Greenwood and set decorator Katie Spencer. Taking inspiration from Palm Springs midcentury modernism they’ve created a whimsical fuchsia pink fantasy where slides replace stairs and there’s not a wall in sight-when touring this impressive set it’s hard not to feel a rush of playful nostalgia as Greta states “I wanted to capture what was so ridiculously fun about the Dreamhouses."

Even though barbie has so many different versions this movie is clearly inspired by the original barbie who is an unbelievably successful business woman, she has many jobs so definitely older. And since it is a doll movie (the whole point of the video is everything look like toy) it is normal they choose someone who has more sharp facial features to keep the plastic doll vibe not round and soft face like elle and when i saw the trailer i immediately think about 'barbie life in the dream house' series and that version is more smilar to margot too and lets be honest if it wasnt for ryan and margot it wouldnt get the half of the attention it gets now

So much love and effort has been put into this by the crew, and this set is a testament to the artistry of set design that is so overlooked in today's CGI filled world. As Greta Gerwig said, this set is designed specifically to appease how children see Barbie. • I love how “physical” the set is! And the backgrounds are handmade? That’s even better! Just shows that craftsmanship still have a place in filmmaking. You don’t need to rely on CGI entirely.

    • EXACTLY! I'm loving how Hollywood is slowly going back to its older roots and tricks for making movies. There's so much charm and character that always surprises me. I always loved seeing the behind the scenes content and seeing the imagination come to reality. All the long concepts. All the little details. It's incredible. I've been watching a LOT of movies that bring back to the pre-CGI/early CGI times (i.e., The Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Cabinet of Curiosities (Made in 2022 but uses little to no CGI)) and letting puppetry, SFX makeup in maximum detail, and set lighting for the PERFECT moods is SO worth it.

  • It would be so cool if in the future they use the set for tourism purposes cuz the set is just too perfect to just throw away after the filming. The set is a perfect opportunity to use for a fun area for both adults & kids to feel nostalgic while possibly eating Barbie themed foods 😊
