Proof that the S&W 500 is a beast!
I shot one once behind the front legs. Got it through one lung and nicked the heart the bear was so strong he went a quarter mile before he dropped and yes he was good.
GUYS FORWARD TO 13:00... THANK ME LATER
Gooman BLACK thank you sir how could I ever repay you.
Thanks man
same way he repayed the bear right in his fkng head.
Gooman BLACK Thanks 😉
Shoaib thanks!
Without these hunters ppl in Alaska would be overrun and the majority of the Bears would starve competing for food sources... But hey lets just put our heads in the sand and criticize these hunters.
+CDubs HasIt Nothing wrong with culling but why use a handgun ? "tools for the job" as the saying goes
+jim bob Have you seen the .500 Magnum cartridge and revolver up-close? Nothing about it says "inadequate" or "underpowered". This caliber is more powerful than the .45-70 Government that hunters used to wipe out the buffalo back in the 19th Century.
+ReonMagnum Not disputing the power, in my part of the world if you said you were going to hunt deer (no bears here) with a hand gun you would be laughed out of the county. I'm not talking about power but about accuracy as I don't see the point in using a hand gun when a more suitable weapon is available.
***** Unfortunately, this is the stigma that many handgun hunters face: rifle & shotgun hunters ridiculing high power handguns, when other much less powerful hunting weapons like bows/crossbows and blackpowder muzzle loaders are not usually laughed at. Anyway there are advantages to carrying a handgun for hunting: A heavy long barreled revolver and shooting stick is still lighter and handier than a 10 pound rifle in tight brush and dense forests. In-case of emergencies like sudden predator attacks, the handgun is also faster to bring to bear than the long gun.
+ReonMagnum In my country a clean kill is paramount, again tools for the job By the same token does a sniper use a hand gun, bow or crossbow ? No, why not ?
The 500 S&W magnum is an awesome round and Smith and Wesson and Corbon teamed up to make it happen. Congratulations!!!
Finally ...S&W 500 / 50-caliber revolver actually on a hunt shooting game and it was a Grizzly !!
the 500S&W does more then measly Grizzly. It has taken down the big 5 in Africa.
I got me a 10.5 inch performance center 500 magnum a few months back. It has always been my dream gun.
If you are a hunter, it will make an excellent (and overpowered) gun for whitetail or wild hogs. Underwood provides many ammo choices for the S&W 500.
@@ReonMagnum I got some underwood 700 grain ammo for it. I'd love to hunt a bear with it, but I want a grizzly and we only have black bear in my area unfortunately
@@ReonMagnum if you use fmj or solids, it would be fine. I've hunted elk with my 470 nitro express and no issues..
You can shoot 500 S&W Special and 500 JRH aka 500 S&W Short magnum in the 500 S&W magnum to gauge the gun to game like deer and up to and including elephant as handgun hunter Mark Hampton did in Africa with one shot. Using Corbon 440 grain hard-cast gas check bullet of course.
Finally...somebody shooting an actual large bear and not a tiny black teddy bear. Nice hunt.
RIP Wade. I miss watching his outdoor shows and reading his work.
My right ear really liked this video.
Yours too?
It was my left
I noticed that also...lol
They did this bear a favor. It was old, obviously getting the down end in scuffles with up and coming dominant bears, and it's teeth were so it was in pain and would have a hard time eating tougher prey other than fish, and maybe then too... It was an "old dog" for sure. A perfect hunting specimen. That S&W 500 put it down immediately and the shot placement was such it didn't suffer at all with the noted spinal cord hit. That's a proper professional guided hunt and a example of how it should be done!
Finally a actually video of the S&W 500 Mag on an actual hunt.
Yeah, 98% of all S&W Model 500 Revolver videos on KZhead are about shooting targets, ballistic gelatin testing, or people failing to control its recoil. It's good to see the .500 Magnum being used in the way it was meant to be, as a big game hunting tool.
I love my 460 and 500 Magnums. Both wicked guns and lots of fun to shoot.
Anybody that doubts the speed of these animals needs to see one up close.
I'm good. I will trust what I am told hahaha
One time a grizzly went after me and it was fast as fuck, but luckily my dad shoots it down. One of my brothers wanted to try and decapitate the bear's head with an 8lbs axe
They say as fast as a race horse ! Damn fast .
Absolutely spectacular, thank you very much for sharing this with the rest of us, I appreciate it.
my left ear feels left out
+Sig Baconater Not the only one..
+Sig Baconater i have virtual 7.1 and i have to turn it off to understand ur sorrow.
+Roy Batty hahaha
hahah mine too
This bear had lived a long life, It was old & now loosing to the younger bears. They don't kill fast & clean. This bear went out without even knowing what hit him. With his teeth in such a mess, he would have slowly starving to death. I would rather see these older bears go like this then by the torcher's of nature. Coinsidently it's a "humane way" to end his life & yet feed the need for man to hunt as it was ingrained in them since the beginning of time. Man is a part of nature too.
Yes, all ridnick human hunters of senior age with missing teeth and bad dental hygiene should be put down the same way, with a bear gun! Seems fair to me! It's the humane thing to do, right?
I don’t mind hunting for food, killing for sport is bullshit.
Would the bear prefer to go like this?
You could say THIS ONE was a mercy killing , an old bear , with a bad\missing tooth , might become a "problem" bear . Nice shot . Also , , look @ how sharp those big, meat hooks are
Squared over 9 feet and an old bear. The way that 500 S&W magnum 440 grain hardcast, gascheck drove through the shoulder and up through the spine. Dropped him right there.
One badass S&W500
Excellent hunt. People don't realize how difficult it actually is. You only see 21 minutes out of ten days.
Good hunt. Enough gun - enough ability !
Im glad you guys took out an old bear that was in pain.
Great video. Thanks for sharing!
Nice shot! Love it!
Clean kill, beautiful bear.
How is it beautiful when he is dead,
There is beauty in everything, you just have to find it.
Yes it was beautiful until they took the life out of it
kayserili memetaga ..... spoken like a true liberal
Thanks Sr,,,, that was awesome,,,, i love that gane
I'm very late to the party but I enjoyed this very much
love my s&w 500 with the 6.5" barrel.
mark key. when you measure the barrel of a pistol do you go all the way back to the revolver or just see where it goes in to the casing before the revolver I would like to know so I would know exactly how long my Barrel is please thank you
you measure from the end of the muzzle to the forcing cone, thats the opening of the barrel the bullet goes into when it leaves the cylinder.
I have the same one.. and it's companion is a Big Horn Armory Model 89 18" barrel carbine, also in 500 S&W Magnum.
A hunt of a lifetime
Awesome video!!
Brown bear country requires .44 Magnum protection at least. I feel kind on light and breezy with only a .357 or .44 special. Even a 45 long colt leaves me wanting.
A legal bear hunt is quite acceptable , it's the poachers that bring shame to hunting such magnificent animals. Great kill ..
@Your President are you serious ? I will not be voting for you in 2020 Mr Trump.
@Your President what is the first lady's thoughts on this ?
@Your President the fur on the rug you mean ?
@Your President Mr President so when are you going to finish the Wall ?
I don't think that poaching takes many Brown & Grizzly Bears, Black Bears yes poaching is a problem.
this is my dream hunt since i was little, buying this pistol this year.
Did u ever buy 1? I finally picked up 1 the other day havnt shot it yet
Beautiful shot...
Bears are plentiful and numbers monitored. I own the same handgun excellent weapon. Would love to bear hunt with it
Bob Fentzlaff I
To all those ragging on hunters: Not only does it nowhere suggest they didn't take the meat, it's illegal to leave it. Look it up before ignorantly hating on a group different than yourselves.
+Vicki Vicious ,Vicky, actually they did not. The meat isn't obligatory to take in Alaska, they took the hide and the skull. Not the meat. In Montana it's the same. In California, the meat has to be taken out. It depends in what state you hunt.
My mistake, in Alaska it's basically all big game excluding brown bears. "You must salvage all the edible meat of moose, caribou, sheep, mountain goat, wild reindeer, deer, elk, bison, musk-oxen, and spring black bear, for which seasons and bag limits exist."
how did they get the meat out
+Vicki Vicious, yes, the meat has to be taken out for all animals except Brown Bears. Black bear meat has to be taken out as well in most states, not all. As for moose, elk, deer, caribou, muskox, the meat has to be taken out before the trophy. If one comes back to a bear disputing the antlers one isn't supposed to shoot. It's illegal to, it's also illegal to take the meat out after the antlers, the meat must come first. Fines and penalties are very substantial if one doesn't follow these rules.
amen
That's one of the luckiest wild predators that ever lived. What a great, noble end! It would have been a much more miserable and pathetic ending when its young replacement there finally had its way with it. What a great animal!! It met the most merciful fate it ever could have had after 19 years; a well-placed S &W 500. Wish I could have had one of those steaks off the grill to honor its life!!
Hahaha
***** We actually make some pretty tasty brown and Grizzly burgers, but most people don't have the equipment to quickly move the bear after shooting so the meat goes tangy. If you spice it thoroughly with cayenne and whiskey, the nasty wild flavor actually can add to the depth of flavor. I especially like sauteed portbella mushrooms with some spiced bear. A good cigar and bourbon definitely add to the experience as well. I'd recommend a Romeo & Julieta, but I haven't had a drink in years so no word on that whiskey.
***** Ha ha ha!! I'm not picking sides in this debate other than to say I always thought that I wanted to try spring grizz... Then I skinned one. Those clothes still stink.
***** Challenge accepted! Got any spare bear fare?
@@benjaminlhargrave bears that have been eating salmon are disgusting!!!
Hello, Razor Dobbs killed a cape buffalo with the 10mm auto with just 2 shots fired. Actually he was dead with the first shot the second was just good measure. And the 44mag has and still kills almost everything on the planet so I wouldn't say that the 460 and 500 are the only handguns suitable for such game hunting.
Great bear, and good shot!
after he shot the bear and was crossing the stream the bank looked like a grizzly standing there and I'm like oops!! But wasn't! LOL
Which high powered weapon would it take to kill a few of those mosquitoes?
DEET
Salt shooter
In the woods of South Carolina we call them swamp turkeys
Merciful end for this Bear, for sure!!
Great hunt! Nice boar. Thats how ya do it partner...wait for a boar and a clean shot!!!
what did you do whit the meat
Pretty sure they leave it to rot, that’s why they are hunting “big mature bears” because they figure it’s justified since it’s at the end of its life anyways. Seems like an unethical practice to me but I’m no expert.
My right ear loved this.
454 Casull would also be a very good choice
would take more than 1 shot.
Harvesting an old mature bear, that's as good as it gets. That bear would have suffered for a long time with that broken tooth. Good job.
Yes, all ridnick human hunters of senior age with missing teeth and bad dental hygiene should be put down the same way, with a bear gun! Seems fair to me! It's the humane thing to do, right?
He was pretty old and had a few broken teeth . . . . but realistically that's not the reason for hunting this bear, it was a trophy. Nonetheless, nice shot placement.
Enough about the animal rights whining. The hunters wanted to prove that the .500 S&W Magnum can take down a brown bear in one shot, and it did the job cleanly. They paid money for a legal hunt, and took only one animal; an old bear that was injured and destined to die an agonizing death if not hunted down. They could have also shot the second bear that came around and justify it as self-defense, but they didn't and that shows their self-restraint.
ReonMagnum Very well said.
Exactly, I'm pretty sure they ate the bear as well. So it's not sport/trophy hunt. It was for food.🐻
We are the top predator. We get to decide what dies and what lives
I hunt deer but I see bears from time to time. I just walk away from them. This video proves alot but I always said people who hunt bear for game usually got bullied in school and have a small penis.
i love killing bears for fun by slapping my big cock in their face
I know a lot of ppl that have taken bears with 10mm
a grizzly?
And people wonder why bears kill humans? Tit for Tat😏.
People eat bear in Alaska, seems that some people don’t understand that here. It’s one of native Alaskans most important food recourses because of their fat content along with seal meat/fat. People also don’t understand that in deep Alaska there is no grocery store or restaurants also that you can just drive down the street to go buy groceries or grab lunch/dinner. You’re responsible for gathering your food there wether it be growing your own food or hunting animals for food...It’s just their way of life so people should respect that.
Nice shot, Hickok45!
Awsome footage!! Love it! Thanks for the knowledge!
are those guns both 500? And what bullet did you use and at what range? Thanks
Yes both 500's and they used a 440gr hardcast
I MUST SAY ..................................................... THAT WAS BEARY NICE !
Doesn't matter what animal it is a spine shot will stop anything. Good hunting with one heck of a handgun!
What a great video
we have had guns with that flexibility for a long time its called the 12guage
Your 12 guage is designed to be used with 2 hands, this is a revolver.
@@H43339 Quite a few people have done that. You too can look up the videos of it.
@@dundonrl I am just saying to shoot it with one hand is stupid.
@@H43339 Yes, but it's possible.
I appreciate the S&W 500 & Casul 454. I carry a backup 12 gauge pump 870 with my Kodabow crossbow. A shotgun is a lot more versatile. Slugs & shot.
What's up with the guy in the red shirt pointing his revolver into the midsection of the other members of the hunt as they examine the bear?
My ear too, lol. Dang I feel asleep twice.
Tell me what you would have been shooting for if he was closer and turned toward you in full charge. I assume the gun would still have brought him down, (?), but what would your concerns and/or instructions be in such a situation ?
Right between the eyes
Michael Yep, the 45-70 is a good choice for large animals. They are a lot less expensive than that SW 500 (or can be) and it provides better range. Ammo selection for that caliber is immense. One thing for sure, what you shoot with it will be dead, provided you have good shot placement. I don't hunt bears, I have no use for one. But there certainly are a lot of black bears in our state. The population is the largest its ever been.
Come to Alaska! Just don't forget your bug repellant.
Well, at least the bear got to live for a long time.
I believe that my Ruger Super Black Hawk 44 magnum with Buffalo Bore 300 grain would have taken it down with out a scope.
That load has plenty of energy
I use a Ruger Super Redhawk .454 casull 7.5 inch. No scope.
What if you perform all of the above mentioned functions while promoting an amazing weapon?
What bullet did you use? I plan on taking a bear with mine this spring.
440 grain hard cast bullet from Corbon. Probably the best load for the .500 S&W when it comes to big game hunting.
clicks on a video about killing a bear, cries about seeing a bear being killed. the fuck did you think was gonna happen lol
How much would a typical hunt/guide package with guaranteed grizzly kill cost to a UK citizen? Just curious but I'm assuming well into 5 figures? :-)
I keep a 4in smith and Wesson 500 I keep holstered with 700 grain holopoints it's a little overkill for the animals I hunt but it works just fine I mean a 9 mill could handle the people I shoot
what scope your using
I want to know what you use for mosquitos Please tell me
deet
I have a Stevens 320 could I go hunting with it I have the rite ammo just need to if I can hunt with it
Nice shot. What did you do with all of that bear meat?
One reason i like the 460 SW, you have a choice of 3 calibers, the 454 Casull and the .45 long colt will all shoot in this gun. I also don't hunt but i do enjoy punching holes in various targets. I would enjoy being in Alaska taking photos and of course would have a 45/70 for protection but that would be a last resort, noise first, then a shot in the air, then pepper spray, hopefully would never have to shoot a Beautiful Bear
sorry but if a grizzly is aggressive towards me and is within pepper spray distance... then im shooting it. lots of people have died by just making them more angry with spray
okay,... i had not heard of death after spraying them, for sure if they are within 30' you dont have much time unless there are more than 1 of you, which i would not go in bear country alone.
@@NewtonWashinton in Wyoming I believe they had 2 friends that used pepper spray and one of the guys did get mauled to death
13:04 your welcome
The bear should have at least gotten a t-shirt that said "I helped Smith and Wesson sell their hand-cannon and all I got was shot in the back of the head"
Sweet Mary, mother of pearl.
I'm figure that they're trying to prove their .50 cal handgun is adequate protection against bear, since it's generally thought that no handgun is sufficient to stop a bear (at least in the handguns generally sold for protection like a 9mm, 45 auto, or .44 magnum). Most people in Alaska wouldn't think of anything less than a .375 rifle to reliably stop one of these beasts.
+sam52054 Handgun calibers above .44 Magnum are more than adequate for bear protection AND hunting. .454 Casull has proven itself as a real stopper against grizzly bears and other large animals like buffalo. As seen in this video and other hunts, the more powerful .500 Magnum will drop huge critters dead in their tracks. .460 Magnum is a long range handgun caliber, and can reliably kill big game at 100 yards or more. I really dont get the stigma hunting handguns have and are often seen as "inferior" or "inadequate", when much less powerful weapons like compound bows and blackpowder guns have been used to take big game.
It's one thing if you're hunting it, quite another if it's charging at you. You won't get to place your shot as accurately (plus it's moving). What might be more than adequate suddenly becomes not enough when your life is on the line.
sam52054 Real world animal attacks have proven heavy handgun calibers as adequate dangerous game defense. In 2009, Alaskan resident Greg Brush was suddenly charged by a hungry grizzly bear. He had just enough time to draw his Super Redhawk Alaskan .454 Casull and let the bear have it at close range. The first shot dropped the grizzly right there, but Greg emptied his Ruger on the dying animal anyway.
+ReonMagnum in addition that bear weight 900 pounds and the 454 did the job without aiming or shot placement. Now that the Bear got taken with the 500 with one shot. I wonder how many shot will it take for an elephant with a 500 gr?
Manuel Silva With hardcast flatnose bullets, it can take only 1 or 2 shots to put down a elephant, provided the hunter aims for the brain.
really great! and this bear was about to rot away in the forest anyway!
If he hadn't have been there to take that beautiful old Bear, that Bear would have died a painful death! That other "young" Giants intentions were clear, it intended on killing his old rival! (Which was very likely his father) great Hunt!!! Great shot!!! Great Bear!!!
If this isn't just the dream, I don't know what is.
A good gun for self defense when going hiking or camping
Only if you can shoot and hit something with it.
Well, if I ever need to go into bear territory, I'll probably carry one of these behemoths. I'd heard they designed the gun with the intention of taking down anything in North America with one shot, so I was wondering if that meant it'd work on bears. Apparently so! Also: ugh, it's just a bear, you hippies, it's not like he's burning down an orphanage while nuns are reading the kids bedtime stories.
+Preaplanes bears are pests in Alaska, people are happy when you get one
35wildbill I'm sorry, I'm afraid I, like most species, have less and less compassion the less genetic resemblance something has to myself. And unlike you, I don't pretend otherwise. Or maybe I just don't have a mental disorder that causes me to associate human feelings with nonhuman animals. It's one of the two with you. I see a lot more foxes eating mice than snuggling up with them.
Well you better practice a lot. Or better yet take a rifle. No offence, it's just that carrying a big hand cannon it's a lot harder to hit what you aim at. This guy has probably shot thousands of rounds with it first. But if you're proficient with it, it will definitely do the trick.
Preaplanes 44 will do the same it wouldn't take elephant or cape buffalo
Id rather take a deagle and just unload the clip into him
The S&W 500 15" is the best.
Did the guy doing the into only have half a mustache? It’s hard to tell with the low video quality.
My left ear felt lonely asf
love it!
An old animal shot well, it was quick and painless. The other bear would have made both animals suffer ..
ALASKA IS TWICE THE SIZE OF TEXAS, there are thousands of bears, this old bear was in pain, from exposed nerves in its teeth, naw this was a mercy killing,440 grain love that number, when you're in the bush a weapon of this power is a blessing, when something jumps out at you
Amazing shot I'm surprised that bear dropped
cool vid. can you eat them? that paw looks delicious
Don't worry about the younger bear, Mother nature will deal with that creature far more harshly than the 500 ever would have..."revenge is sweet sir"- Bidwell, 'Almost Heroes'
What a shit excuse for killing a young bear.
Did he hit him in right ear?
Sorry I know this is off topic but did anyone see the ufo at around 6:27 mark !!! At the top of the screen???
Somebody below said that a handgun was not intended for killing game animals. Many years ago that was accepted dogma but as anybody with a solid knowledge of firearms today will tell you, handgun hunting is very effective and the necessity for a long gun has faded considerably. When you consider that EVERY dangerous game on the planet has been taken with a handgun you've got to admit that is a very credible hunting method.
Hunting with handguns is absolutely valid but its a different type of hunt. The majority of American hunters enjoy precision distance rifle shots when hunting.
Desert Sky The sales depts. probably like selling those expensive rifles alot more than hearing about hunting handguns.
+Desert Sky I hunt with a 454cassul open sights makes more of a challenge anyone that can shoot half ass can take a 7 mag and bust something 500 600 plus hundred yards fairly easy I don't even use rifles anymore a 454cassul and a 41 rem mag takes care of anything I'm huntin it's super fun
+Jeremy Welch That 454 cassul is hell of a round, that is for sure.
I know lots of people that have killed Grizzlies with 44 Magnums
Weapon of choice?
I'm a hunter but I couldn't bring my self to kill a bear that's just minding its business and not posing a threat
