1644 Consecrated CHATEAU CHAPEL, REVEAL and RESTORATION planning - Journey to the Château, Ep. 113
In this week's Friday episode, Patrick and Stuart have a first reveal of the Château de Colombe chapel that was consecrated in 1644. Patron and volunteer Donna and her good friend Mary are visiting from the United States, and they ask to take on the cleaning and to help with planning for the future of the chapel.
Join Patrick and Stuart on their journey to find a neglected, forgotten, or crumbling château or castle in France, and then continue to follow them as they work on its restoration, rénovation, decoration, and furnishing. Along the way, they will also create and share videos on their preparation for having gîtes for guests, and an event venue in their chateau (wedding, birthday, anniversary, organization or club meetings, retreats, etc.).

that pulley was for the lamp, that would be lit when the consecrated hosts were in the tabernacle on the altar.(take my word for it I am a ex-priest)
That is great input. Thank you. Could you please explain a bit more (you can contact us directly through the home page and then “about”. There is our email address. We’d absolutely love to hear more about how we can restore that appropriately. Huge thank you. 😊😊😊
Yes please provide more info
Ladies, you did an incredible job! The chapel looks so good. Y’all put in work!
Stuart‘s stained glass window will be great. The artist is in house.
😊❤😊
Thank you, Donna and Mary! Upon seeing the Chapel, I was devastated until you performed a delicate ablution of the interior. Now, I have great hopes that Our Lady's Chapel can be saved. You not only have the gratitude of Stuart and Patrick, but the gratitude of myself and, I believe, countless viewers. Your dedication is appreciated and I look forward to seeing the ideas you all have in the restoration come to fruition. Patrick and Stuart, you are blessed to have such lovely friends. ❤
We are blessed indeed, Edward. Donna and Mary are amazing Ladies and the chapel looks inviting and will be a space for peace, calm and prayer once again…… after many decades of being neglected. We are grateful for the help and input and Donna and Mary know how we feel. We love them and can’t wait for them to come back. What a wonderful comment. Thank you. ❤❤❤
That chapel is gorgeous, thanks to Donna and Mary for all their hard work. I vote for chairs instead of pews as they will have a visual lightness in the space.
Yes, Donna and Mary were fantastic! 💕
❤❤❤
Isn't the blue sky and gold stars usually on the coat of Maria as the Queen of the Heavens? I would do the ceiling in dark blue with hand painted gold stars with painted on grey arches following the lines of the ceiling shape. Then simple French grey walls and perhaps a dado rail around in blue and gold. That would do justice to the age of the chapel as well as the more rustic side of the chateau. And your holy water fount would fit, too. Thank you to Donna and Mary for doing such a wonderful and caring job.
Great ideas. And the ladies are just fabulous. We adore them.
Wow, wow and wow, the chapel is beautiful, and what love and kindness your lovely volunteers showed to clean it so well. I was raised a Catholic and I think the long string, or wire that you think may have been for a light was probably for the Chancel light. Usually red, and lit by oil, the chancel light was kept burning as a sign of Christ’s presence, and you will always see it in consecrated churches and chapels. As the Priest would have had celebrated Mass with his back to the worshippers, there may have been a simple altar rail. Your plans sound perfect, and it will truly be a peaceful place to reflect, meditate and pray. Take care xx
Thank you for your wonderful comment. Very much appreciated. 😊❤😊
What an honour for Donna and Mary to be given the opportunity to go through and clean your gorgeous little chapel!
We are honoured that these two wonderful ladies were willing to start the restoration work on this gem. Thank you so much. Hugs from Colombe. ❤
Spiritual spaces like your little chapel contain the truest essence of humanity because it’s where the strongest emotions are expressed. And it resonates for centuries. Your little chapel is beautiful and I can’t wait to see it fully restored in the future! 😊
I couldn’t agree with you more. And we all felt it in the chapel. Almost 400 years of emotions. 😮❤😊
What wonderful ladies to assist with this project!
What generous friends to clean the chapel with such care. Very interesting. Beautiful. Thank you.
They are absolutely wonderful souls. ❤❤❤
Not only is it absolutely wonderful to see the chapel, but of course, Donna and Mary did so much work to make it live again. As a fellow Kansas Citian, I'm proud of them!
I love your comment. Indeed, the ladies are absolutely amazing. Hugs
So I remember back when you were hunting for a place and now I watching the replay of all my friends
The ladies did such a wonderful job on the chapel. I believe one of the metal items that Mary found while picking through the stuff on the floor is actually one of the oldest Catholic symbols. It is the one that looks like a fish. So, please do not throw that item away until you can have someone verify whether or not that it is actually one of the Catholic symbols. I reviewed this video several times and it looks like a fish to me. Best of luck on having the chapel restored. Patrick and Stuart you are so much fun to watch and we love all your videos.
The ichthus? WAsn't that an early Christian symbol, not necessarily Catholic?
Sorry, that is definitely not what you think it is. They are two curved metal pieces connected in the middle with washers and screws. It was a structural brace that was used for the light fixture that used to hang in the chapel.
Oh my god, excuse the pun, unbelievable what the ladies have uncovered in the little chapel, its absolutely beautiful. Ladies you are a treasure. Stuart and Patrick are blessed to have you spend a few days with them. Take care ❤
Hi Carlo. Those ladies are absolutely amazing. And what they uncovered….. we never imagined. We are truly blessed. Thank you so much. ❤❤
I just love peaple who are not scared to get down & dirty and get things done!!!
Such a dear little chapel and can imagine a blue ceiling with gold stars ⭐️🌟🌈 a lovely place to reflect and re charge for sure✨
Donna and Mary know the historical importance of the chapel. Both have done an amazing job of clearing, sorting, and cleaning the chapel. I look forward to seeing the continued restoration.
Something that I thought of with how the Ave Maria is on both the door and the alter (and as someone raised Catholic), Catholic churches and shrines usually have a specific figure from Catholicism that they are dedicated to. For example the largest Catholic cathedral in the U.S. is the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in D.C., so specifically dedicated to the Mother Mary. At La Lande their chapel is the chapel of St. Joseph. So I make a pretty educated guess that ya'lls chapel was dedicated to the Mother Mary. A very common art motif associated with the Mother Mary is the blue with the gold stars, her veil is often depicted a such in various imagery, so your holy water vessel is very appropriate. Also fun fact for the placement of your alter: if you go to a Catholic mass today the priest stands behind the alter facing out towards the congregation, however, historically mass was preformed with the priest facing their back to the congregation and what we know today started in the 1960s.
I absolutely love your comment. All that information is fantastic. And I love that you are stating it. It will be Mary and Joseph with a crucifix over the altar. Blue, white and gold will be the colours. We have seen the chapel at LaLande twice. It is lovely. Sending you love and gratitude from Colombe. ❤❤😊
STUART - PATRICK: I'm addicted to your VLOG!... I'M LOVING IT!..thanks for your willingness to share your lives with us!.. love it. thanks, From Nashville TN USA
Thanks so much
My dear, you are so kind and your comment means so much to us. Thank you for your kindness. It is very motivational. Huge hugs and love from Colombe. ❤❤❤
What a great job the ladies did on that sweet chapel! It just gave me such a warm feeling to see that a place the early owners revered, held baptisms in, Sunday communions, and weddings and funerals was given some love and attention by these hardworking guests. I know it meant a lot to you too for them to take on a job you just didn’t have time nor energy for. ♥️
Love your comment. All true. ❤❤❤
The chapel is absolutely beautiful! Love the simplicity of it, a blank canvas!
These lovely ladies did a wonderful job! 👏👏👏
They are spectacular ladies indeed. Love them ❤❤❤
What a lovely chapel. My husband thinks the sliding pulley on the roof may have been for a bell and the zig zag metal piece you found is part of a sickle. It’s going to be beautiful! How lovely to have this help from Donna and her friend.
It was amazing to have them help and dig in like energiser Ladies. Actually, they took over and we needed this. Imagine if we find a bell there…… 😮😮😮😮. That would be amazing 🤯🥳😳😘. The zig zag might have been on the roof…. No idea but we will investigate. ❤❤. Love your comment. 😊😊😊
My first thought was that it was for a bell. But once I saw the roof, I began to question that. It would have been used to call folks for mass or other services. However, you wouldn't be able to hear a bell in an enclosed attic from very far away. The bell would have been in some sort of tower or spire somewhat open to the air. Then again, the roof might be a replacement that was put up after a tower or spire failed. Maybe when they get a chance to poke around in the ceiling and see if there are any traces of prior structures. (Note the "attic" bell would be different than the bells used during mass which were hand-held and small. Those were rung during key moments of the mass.)
Or maybe release of Doves🕊🕊
@@eugenius1192 I think the chapel was only for family living in the house.
How Blessed to have friends that gave their time and Love in such a special way. Mary and Donna God's Blessings to both of you for doing such an amazing job clearing out and cleaning the Chateau Chapel
Count your blessings, such good friends are truly heaven sent, chapel will be a great addition to the chateau. Thanks for sharing.
The beauty of your Chapel is it's simplicity what a great job Donna and Mary did helping to bringing it back to life. How thoughtful of you in lighting candles for Queen Elizabeth II .
I love the chapel! A beautiful space and can’t wait to see it being restored…those windows are small enough that stained glass would not be too outrageous! ❤
Hi Pam. Thank you. We are so excited. I agree with everything you’ve stated. Hugs from Colombe. ❤😊❤
It must have been so special to have Donna and Mary sharing your passion and enthusiasm for the chapel. I’m sure that with so many different projects that need doing, you can sometimes feel overwhelmed, so this would have been quite encouraging and exciting for you! Your hydrangeas… wow!🥰
You are absolutely right. It was a huge help and it feels like we are making progress. ❤❤ They have such a passion and are the nicest ladies one can wish for. It is truly overwhelming at times. We deeply appreciate all the help, support and great comments that make our journey worth it. Love from Colombe. ❤❤
Gosh what a beautiful chapel!! Great job cleaning it up ladies, love the idea to renovate it and make it available for anyone that wants a little alone time with our lord! Maybe even a intimate wedding! What a lovely place. I know I would be spending a lot of time there!!❤️❤️
Salût Joaquina. It is a precious and holy space. The ladies were amazing and did the first step to restore it to become the amazing space it was. Prayer, meditation and weddings will be a part of the life here again. Love your comment. ❤❤❤
That was absolutely wonderful….the Chapel will be lovely, and what a blessing your two helpers rolled up their sleeves and started the revelation. You truly have brought your Chateau to a warm home..even your flowers love you two…thank you for making us a part of your discovery.❤️👏🏻😀
Thank you so much!
Friends are worth their weight in gold!
Dear Albert, indeed they are. Hugs my dear. ❤❤
Hi darlings. Donna and Mary worked very hard cleaning the chapel. The chapel is adorable with the white walls and altar. They had great ideas to restore the walls, ceiling and floor. Stuart i like the idea to put in stained glass it will give a special glow into the chapel. Also i think Stuart, you have the gift to paint the walls with depictures. Have a nice weekend. Hugs and kisses also for the 11x furries🐕 😘🥰🥰💓
My darling Gonnie. They are amazing and worked so hard. I love that space and it made me emotional. Once restored, this is going to be a great space to meditate. Have a wonderful weekend and we send love and hugs and dog licks from Colombe. ❤😊💖
The chapel is going to be so beautiful.
She is a gem. ❤❤
Lovely plans for the chapel! With Stuart's artistic talent on the walls, ceiling and the stained glass windows, it will be beautiful. Don't put off fixing the leak. 🙂
Love this little Chapel. I can see it restored quite simply .. with the alter & candlesticks & maybe a little stained glass window & a few rustic chairs. It’s charming 🥰
Hi Helen. Indeed, it will be completely different from Stephanie’s chapel. Simple but beautiful. ❤😊❤. Hugs.
Donna and Mary did an amazing job. What a blessing they are.
Dear John. They absolutely are a blessing and we feel so deeply touched by their work and all the patrons and viewers who have supported us on our crazy endeavour. You are one of those amazing gems. Sending love and hugs. 🥰💕🥰
IT is a nice little chapel. The Ladys make a good Job.
Isn’t it cute. We love it. And they are amazing!!! ❤❤❤
Patrick and Stuart the ladies did an amazing job of cleaning When you are inside it is very peaceful and tranquil
Dear Stuart and Patrick, what a wonderful gift for Donna and Mary to bring your attention to the chapel. It probably was further down on your list of renovations to work on, but the thought of having a consecrated place to sit and pray, meditate or just feel peace in your busy day is a wonderful idea. The ideas being considered in your discussions sound lovely, but things can be worked on slowly. I wish you both a beautiful weekend. An abundance of hugs. xx
Dear Stephanie. We are truly blessed with wonderful people. Donna and Mary are absolutely amazing. They proposed to come and work on the chapel that we hadn’t shown. What a spirit and inspiration. Standing in there now is wonderful already. Going to be peaceful and inviting. We won’t rush but Donna is taking the lead and that is such a blessing. Huge hugs and we will go to the largest Brocante in our area with Tony and Kane tomorrow morning. ❤😊❤. Love from us

Hi Claudia. They are amazing and did a fantastic job. We adore Donna and Mary. 😊. Thank you for watching and commenting. ❤❤❤
Donna and Mary, you are fantastic look what you uncovered, Patrick your emotion and gratitude came across at the cleaning they had done, Stuart I think stained glass will be beautiful, and quite literally you can be so creative with painting the ceiling. See you next week 👋 👋 ❤😊
Wow 🤩 the girls have done a most exquisite job. The chapel looks stunning ❤❤❤
That sure did. Hugs. ❤❤❤
Donna and Mary have done a fantastic job on the chapel. They also have some great ideas.😊❤
What a sweet little Chapel. My husband and I was married in a small Chapel. Just five of us total including the minster. Just what we wanted a small sweet little wedding.
Loved seeing the chapel, it looked so bright after cleaning it, I can picture it as she was describing the ceiling and love the shape of it. So glad you are restoring it. I'm so envious of your Hom e and being in France. I've never been there and at 71 don't know if I'll ever make it, but watching all the blogs from France makes me want to visit and see all these lovely sites.
Thank you! 💕
Thank you Rebecca. It is a great space. And don’t forget, you can always travel. You are a young lady! One of our volunteers came from the US at 72 years of age and, like you, had never been to Europe before. Huge hugs from Colombe. ❤
It must have been beautiful in its day , I am sure it could be transformed now, anyway Donna and Mary did a really good job. ❤❤❤❤
They are the best. Indeed, it must have been precious and it will be again. Hugs. ❤
Lovely as always. ❤ Fabulous! So many possibilities. Excited to see what you will do with that amazing space. And how wonderful to have such great supporters like Donna and Mary to partner with you on this. ❤ Big hugs to you both. ❤❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Thank you handsome. It is such a lovely space. Donna and Mary are wonderful. We are lucky guys. Their support is wonderful. And did they ever work hard. 😊❤😊. Hope all is well. Love as always to you two. ❤
Nice to have friends who will roll up their sleeves and clean the chapel. I think you will find the sliding panel in the ceiling is for the bell ropes.
Aren’t this ladies amazing! Unbelievable. ❤😊❤. We will open that soon….. cannot wait. 😳🤣💖
Just catching up with the vlogs. What wonderful friends in Donna and Mary! They really cleaned it up so that now you can see the wonderful potential in the chapel.Just wonderful!
What a little jewel box chapel! The ladies did such a wonderful job cleaning it up. I look forward to seeing what you decide to do with it!
It is a gem. We love it. The ladies are fantastic. We are looking forward to seeing the vision coming to life. ❤❤
Donna and Mary did a beautiful job in cleaning the chapel. It will be beautiful when it’s refurnished. I love the ideas that were shared. Thank you for sharing this lovely video. Stained glass windows Would look perfect. Th Dove 🕊 of peace great Ida Stuart. ❤❤❤
Donna and Mary did an excellent job cleaning the chapel 💒 it will be beautiful once it gets renovated. Thanks for sharing 😍😘
So wonderful to see the Chapel cleaned up! It would be super interesting to see it restored and in use!
It is wonderful and we are determined to make it glorious again. ❤❤❤
Amazing what a bit of elbow grease can do. The Chapel is beautiful.
Hi Desire. It is so true. We need a few more greased elbows for all the projects. 😂. Love your comment. ❤❤
It would be lovely to see some trompe l'oeil panels on the wall, merging in to the lovely ceiling. Great job on cleaning out the space! The stained glass windows will be great and tomette floor tiles will look wonderful all polished up. Excited for this transformation!!
Que linda capelinha. E bela homenagem a Rainha Elizabeth ll. Eu nasci no dia que ela completava 32 anos, 21 de abril. Estou acompanhando o canal e curiosa pra ver a capela restaurada. Sempre bom ter Nossa Senhora protegendo a casa. 🙏🏻 💛💚💙 🇧🇷
I think the ceiling door was for the bell tower
You have a lovely chapel which, when restored, will be gorgeous and a sweet space to find solace for meditation and prayer. Given the age of your chapel, the paint is highly likely to contain lead. Thus I urge you to use caution before refinishing the ceiling or other painted surfaces. At the very least, consider purchasing a lead paint test kit at your local home store before proceeding. Having the ceiling sandblasted by a professional using hazmat practices may be something to consider. For what my opinion is worth (not much in the scheme of things), repainting the ceiling, walls and tall baseboards in a warm white with slate or medium tone oak floors would be stellar. As for the altar, white with French Silver trim & medallion highlights would also be lovely. I’m sure whatever you decide will be beautiful. Fortunately for you, finding church-related items is fairly easy. With the number of chapels that are being deconstructed due to the cost of maintenance, you may be able to purchase kneelers and a couple of benches at a good price. Restoring this piece of history will be a blessing. Kind wishes to all.
There was no lead paint in 17 th century french architecture.
Extraordinary to have ones own Chapel ,to have a quiet place to contemplate ,to review the day . Wonderful friends to have . Both of you deserving of such wonderful friends .
You are so kind. Indeed, what a fantastic place to contemplate and meditate and we are blessed with fantastic. We will welcome anyone who wants to help us out to save this chateau and chapel. Sending love from Colombe ❤❤
One of your best vlogs yet! What a facelift the girls gave to the sweet chapel! The paint wood with faux marbling is quite common in many chapels and churches across Europe. What a difference aq good clean makes! I have been involved with our Anglican Church Altar Guild and you can find some amazing pieces of pure linen/fair linen altar vestments in France....and I have purchased many for our own wee chapel here in Colorado. We build a small chapel about 14 years ago and were able to purchase vintage pews off of Ebay, that had been in a Lutheran church along the eastern area of the US. I know you will be able to find all the furniture needed for the chapel right there in France. And should you want vintage fair linens or new fair linens (altar linens ), I could help you procure some of those and also make some custom linens for the altar and communion table. It will be stunning and I can see the vision that Donna and Mary have! Really exciting week! Thanks ladies!!! Cheers!
Hi Jill. Great input. Love your comment and indeed….. those ladies are amazing and we adore them. Huge from Colombe. ❤❤
Flowers when you have a ceremony of any kind would be all you need to adorn plain whitewashed walls and stained glass windows
interesting idea! thanks!
The Chapel is looking so nice after the Ladies efforts and enthusiasm
That is so true. Amazing. ❤❤
A chapel wow keep it simple you are in a position to restore it and use it for all sorts celebration religious or not lovely volg cheers
This was so interesting!! I am excited to see the sweet little chapel restored.
Thank you. We love it too. We have a ways to go but now people can go and pray without kneeling on debris. Hugs. ❤
I would love to come and help with the chapel. Was a decorative painter for years.
The Chapel is very cute and yes I can imagine a light touch restoration would be best. The ceiling definitely needs a whitewash. The alter needs a repair and new top. Obviously the leak is first priority to enable repairs to plaster walls and wooden floor.
Yes, these are the conclusions we came up with in this episode. Thanks!
Its wonderful what they did😊😊❤❤😊😊
I'm sure she's right about the blue, because it's the Virgin's colour. The Queen of Heaven is often shown with stars. The little "shelves" by the altar would have held the bread and wine elements.
Actually, we do know that the shelves would have had a statue of Mary on the left and St. Joseph on the right. The eucharist elements would have been on the altar. Thanks!
Your friends worked hard. The little chapel looks great! Will we be seeing more of their handy work? It's wonderful having a patreon volunteer with your chateau. ❤❤
We would love if they would come back to help some more!
They are fantastic and I think they want to come back. 😊😊😊
It's going to look amazing when you store the chapel imagine how much good luck is going to bring use both can't wait for your next update guys keep up the great work❤❤❤
Thank you so much. It is going to be a space for contemplation and marriage. How fantastic ❤❤❤
The beautiful little chapel is the jewel in the crown ! Wonderful friends Donna and Mary did a terrific job. Have a good weekend! 💕💕😘😘
What a great way to phrase this. So true. Thank you so very much. Donna and Mary……. How fantastic. ❤❤❤
Donna and Mary cleaned up the chapel well. I agree that it will be a nice space for meditation. Take care my friends, Ralph Rocchiccioli
Another thought.... As a child I attended an historical episcopal church (over 100 years old), with is saying a lot in California! But anyway, I remember staring up in the rounded ceiling of the nave, a sky blue ceiling with stars and wondering why...now I know why and it was beautiful. I thought of that when I saw the rounded ceiling of your chapel.
Well done ladies, you've done a fantastic job of cleaning up the Chapel. Would be nice to see it all painted. The floor tiles you have put down in the kitchen would looks beautiful but understand the need to reuse things you have to keep the costs down. Xxx
Thank you Cherie. The ladies are amazing. We have to keep it authentic. Our mayor came by today. 😮😊❤
Wonderful job on the Chapel Ladies! I believe there was a kneeler by the alter which is why it was below grade. Stain glass in those window panes would be lovely, and Stuart is right that doves would be a good fit. Since the Chapel has no light a Chandelier that was still candles would be appropriate, until electrics were fitted again. It looks like the leak is where it is connected to the house, so you may uncover more then you bargained for there. I am in agreement to remove the wood floor. Most older churches have large stones- then again they also have people buried in them , so... time will tell. Off to a great start!
Interesting ideas. Thank you!
I'm excited to see this one. I'll chat with you here or at Escape. :)
Can’t wait either. I never see the episodes before they air. And I almost cried when the ladies were done with the clean up. Long journey to full renovation but by god….. this is breathtakingly beautiful ❤❤❤
Awesome , loved this episode !
Thank you Karen. ❤❤
How nice of them to help out. What a makeover. The bottom of the altar where it's white below the black slab and where the floor dips down maybe there was a step there at one point in time. Can't wait to see when you get to complete this project!
They are amazing and we are blessed. Very much looking forward to seeing the restored chapel. Huge hugs and thanks. ❤❤
Very interested to see the small chapel!
😊
So many possibilities!
Isn’t it amazing! ❤😊❤
Love this episode sharing the chapel and the caring shown by Donna and Mary to begin the restoration of the chapel.
The Chapel is beautiful
😊❤😊
can't wait to see more on this lovely chapel - best wishes
👍🏻🥰👍🏻
Donna and Mary have really worked wonders inside the old chapel. Hopefully whatever has caused water damage inside can be stopped coming in again from the outside. The ceiling looks like it is not beyond repair. Some lovely stain glass windows will cast beautiful coloured light inside on a sunny day. It's a really great start. The faux marble on the altar has once been very beautiful. Hopefully some real marble can be cut for the top of the altar and the rest replastered. It's a lovely space.
Hi Michael. Thank you so much. Those ladies…… amazing! And we fell in love with both of them. We will repair the water leak and then start the renovation process with the help from our friends and benefactors. Huge hugs. ❤❤
Yes we for sure will have real marble on the top of the alter
Oh, how beautiful! Those girls did a great job of cleaning your dear little chapel didn't they? I think that piece of ironwork, sort of jaggedy, is an ancient Christian symbol, the fish one. It'd be the perfect thing that would have been in the chapel originally. Also, that large flat stone may have a relic under it, that's what all consecrated spaces have somewhere around or under the altar. I'd bet that the chapel is dedicated to the Virgin, going by Her emblem on both the door and the altar, so it's very appropriate to have Her symbols like the stars and roses, in the chapel. The altar is a really beautiful piece, what's it made from? I just love the whole concept, and really look forward to Our Lady's space being restored. Much love and big hugs and pats xxx
thanks. No, that iron work was not a fish symbol. they are just two curved pieces of iron connected in the middle with bolts and were part of the old light fixture. The alter is plaster. Thank you!
❤
you might be able to find the marble altar top and a tabernacle, you could also find a smaller statue of the Virgin Mary, of the 1600's..most of these could be pickup at an old or closed convent ...that ceeling might ne gold guilded...around the altar front would be the three required steps reuired to say Mass......the front three steps would be wood..around the altar....you could have a look at a church of the same age...that semi-round would be the place for the chalice , and water and wine cruets for the celebration of Mass....chapels in the 1600's were not like a modern chapel or church...
Ok…. The altar top is a huge slab of marble……. That’s going to be a custom order. We have not heard of any convents that are closing in the area. And the ones from the 1600s……. We see statues like that at auctions for 1000s of Euros. But we are open for donations. 😊 Indeed, there needs to be one step, since that is almost 400 years old. No 19th century additions. The semi rounds are for the statues for Mary and Joseph. This is a small family chapel……. Love your comment. 😊.
Please let us know where these old closed convents are located here in france. Thank you for you help.
Outstanding clean up Donna and Mary. Really looks good ... 😊
❤❤❤
I love the simplicity of this little chapel. It is both charming, calming and perfect for reflection or prayer. Mary and Donna have done a wonderful job of cleaning it up and making it useful until such time as a proper restoration can be done. If the water ingress is stopped then it can be safely left until more urgent areas of the Chateau are attended to. Stuarts stained glass windows will add a beautiful touch to the light coming through the windows too. ⛪️🪟❤️🙏🏻
I love your comment. 100% agreed. Love from Colombe. ❤❤❤
This was fascinating to me! It will be wonderful to see the chapel restored! What lovely ladies. 😘😘
It is really interesting. This was fascinating for us as well. Hope you are well my friend. Love to Australia from your friends at Colombe. ❤❤❤
Hi Patrick & Stuart! The little chapel is so sweet. It will be so pretty. Wow that hydrangea is a gorgeous color. Thank you so much so good to see both of you. Sending love.💜🤗😎🫶🇺🇸
Thank you so much. Sending love right back. ❤. It’s that hydrangea amazing. We love the chapel space. 😊😊😊. Hugs from Colombe
If not benches, how about wooden chairs in a few rows?
That would work great too. ❤❤
Lovely job cleaning it all. Thank you for the video!
You might get ideas from Stephanie Jarvis's chapel, she is working on plans for their chapel. They have someone that has restored the windows, and have someone coming to restore the ceilings
interesting idea! thanks!
Bravo encore !
Merci! 😃
J’adore ton Cbommentaire . Merci beaucoup.
Just so incredible watching the chapel episode. Love seeing the careful and loving clean up transformation by Donna and Mary. Future plans sound perfect especially the stained glass windows. Next steps sort out water ingress and plaster. I appreciate easier said than done. Sending love to you both 💞
So interesting! I can't wait until the next episode.
What a sweet chapel. For sure the ceiling has an old flaky lime wash over it. They used to do that here in Greece as well. It's very easy to make pretty again just by sanding the flaky bits off lightly, and then just do another couple of coats of lime wash. That's all the walls would have had as well. But if you do that make sure to add some olive oil to the mix so it doesn't flake straight off. FUN!
Hi Matthew. Thank you so much for the tip and input. I’d never have thought to add olive oil but it makes total sense. Huge hug and thanks from Colombo. ❤❤
Hi Mathew. Hope all is well. The fires are terrible. Was thinking about you and close friends, stay cool and safe my friend.
@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 Awwww Patrick you're just as lovely off screen as on! There are no fires on Crete where I live but the heat is vile. I run an artists residency and my guests were boiling in their upstairs apartment so I lashed out and got a big air-conditioner. Now none of us want to leave our cool cave ;) Thank you for thinking of us! x x
