the mccarthy one handed catch into the back-foot dime was legendary
Looked like a broken play to me
Anything is legendary to people
@@smodiddleythe adjustment made it beautiful but I dont think it was legendary unless that person scores and wins the game with zero time left on the clock.
@@Mkj119Damn, what legendary plays have you ever seen by that measure?
@@richyd4762 obj signature catch where he had to adjust to a god awful throw by fully extending his arm backwards is legendary all things considered, just off the top of my head
“ Inches from walking in “! Huh? Bro got stuffed. Wasn’t even close.
Are you retarded? He just showed you how he could of scored
They are saying if everything got blocked
A lot of crickets this morning in Alabama!
Michigan’s special team tried their best to lose this game
Yeah - that could have been devastating when that guy muffed the fair catch at the end. Why was he even trying to fair catch at the 5 yd line anyway?
Facts
Alabamas Center matched them single handedly
@@gtf5392 MI special team play was horrible
That cost Michigan 11 points too, think about that one! If they had just eliminated those three mental errors, 24-13!
Can we be honest for a second... michigan outplayed bama from the jump..and had bonehead plays along the way... 2 muffed punts... 1 turnover...miss xp, missed fg
Alabama stays relying on other teams to make a mistake. All that luck finally ran out. Kinda like Auburn in 2013.
They outplayed them in the first half but the second half was majority Alabama
Colleges recruit for special teams because that is the quickest way to screw up a football game
@@Dayz671 sure..but i gotta disagree.. mich def been lights in the 2nd half all season... that punter was the difference maker.. he flipped the field
Michigan did look like the better team but it looked like they were going to incur a loss from self-inflicted mistakes. In classic Alabama fashion they were disciplined and made very few mistakes (The ones they did make were costly). But Michigan definitely seemed to wake up down the stretch and started playing with the team we thought we were going to see all game I think the teams were pretty close though.
From an OSU congrats Michigan. This is the only game in my life I ever rooted for Michigan sorry but won’t do it next week lol
As a Michigan fan, whenever it was OSU in the playoffs i always rooted for them. Not only for the hate i have for Bama but that hate i have for pundits throating the SEC.
@@BuuhBlocks congrats from osu fan be rooting for you vs Washington to. Thx for shutting them sec mofo up atleast for now
As michigan fan I always root for Ohio state except for one game
same here lol
OSU fan here, I will be rooting for Michigan next week!! Go BIG10!!
I love how espn still talks more about the SEC team that lost.
Even if the right tackle doesn’t get pushed back into Milroe, Rod Moore (number 9) is right there to stop him and Saintistil (number 0) would have also assisted that tackle so idk what this guy is talking about “walking in”
If Alabama's line executed well it would've been at best a 50/50. But that obviously wasn't the case. With how their line was playing, I would say it was a bad call to even attempt it. Rolling Milroe with an option to pass or run was what I was expecting. #GoBlue
He's got a point about the timing. Jalen was just a half second slow and that was enough for him to get stopped instead of having time to evade tackles with a cut to the left on his lineman's hip. And I say this as a UofM diehard fan. Alabama stopped themselves. They just weren't good enough.
9 was already over committed and would not have stopped Milroe. Would have had one guy to beat basically making contact around the 1 yard line
He trips over his lineman just as he's about to cut left to the wide open lane....The lane was there. But bad snap and his lineman getting blown up disrupting the play so yea...Give Michigan credit the made they play an Bama didint.
@@josephhuff9195I would love to see an accurate count of how many "bad" snaps Alabama had that game. Watching highlights and it looked like Milroe was reaching all over for the ball all game.
Why are we listening to a lifetime backup QB telling us it was a good play?
He has accomplished more than you. What are you doing with your life? 😂😂😂
Why are we listening to an internet expert who has never played the game?
Because he’s actually been around the game, unlike you
@@tb2704 so has deion sanders, does that mean he can coach?
@@stevelarkins4145 Deion is one of the greatest players ever, so using that example makes the top comment look foolish because he’s implying you have to be great at the NFL level to know the game. But yes I’ll take a man who has been around the game his whole life over a couch coordinator who can’t break down a play, yes!
Michigan got to Jalen Milroe all game 6 sacks 116 passing yards
Despite the fact that everyone knew he was going to run that play, it was the one play that I as a Michigan fan was most worried about.
I said to myself, "just don't let Milroe run it in. If he ties the game with the pass, I can live with that".
Yes. It had worked multiple times and was one of their more consistent yardage plays, yes some of his runs were scrambles, but the design plays were working.
As a Michigan fan, you would have known about going to the well one too many times for Bama! Besides, if Michigan had not made all those mental errors, the game would have never been close enough for Bama to get OT! Gift given on the first punt when Michigan muffed it! Missed PAT & Field Goal that left four points on the field! If they had not made just those three mental errors, Michigan would have walked away with a 24-13 victory!
Lol it’s wasn’t close. ESPN really trying to make Alabama look good at the end. He got stuff in the back field. Of it was Michigan that made that play. ESPN wouldn’t be defending them at all lol.
Does ANYBODY IN THE COUNTRY agree with Hasselbeck that the Bama play was a good play? I'm a Michigan fan & I couldn't believe they ran that.
no, it wasn't a good play because everybody on the planet knew alabama was going to do a qb draw in that situation. they would have been better off doing a fade route and hope for a td (i.e. auburn) or pass interference.
If Milroe had adjusted and ran left everyone would be calling it a brilliant play.
It was a horrible call. You’re better off doing play action pass in that situation with a mobile qb
I mean, looking at the tape he's kinda right. If the snap was good and tackle does his job Milroe walks into the endzone.
Wax a great play for Michigan
Hasselbeck could not be more WRONG! Even Saban admitted it was the wrong call for what Michigan was showing defensively, but Bama was out of time outs, and QB stayed with called play. In that defensive set, ALL 11 players were expecting the QB run and got what they wanted. QB should have audibled next play. So IT WAS DOOMED. Maybe QB gets a yard or so, but NEVER 3 yards!
I don't see it being "inches away from being a walk-in touchdown" at all??? edit: it looks and sounds more like one bad block and one mis-read away LOL
I agree. That play had no chance. Michigan stuffed em easily.
Yeah, I’m sitting there watching Tim Hasselbeck analyze this play and I’m confused where he said that this was a good play call. I don’t see how Milroe was going to get into the end zone, considering that the middle was still blocked up
The pulling guard totally missed the block.
If you’re counting on an unblocked player to run too deep to tackle the QB it’s not a good play Matt
That's common in modern run play design. The Ravens made it popular. The best way to block an elite d linemen is to not block him and he over run the play. If your qb runs, it's 11 on 10 behind.
@@jamiesp3901 Problem is Sainristil isn't a lineman and would have held Milroe up long enough for a gang tackle. They motioned the RB out hoping Sainristil would clear out but since the MLB did, going up the middle would have been the better option if not for Kenneth Grant beating the double and swimming into the middle. Textbook example how to play defense.
Michigan played their 2nd worst game of the year vs Alabama (Maryland was #1) and still won. I only watched 4 Bama games before this, so I cant say it was their best game, but they did not make nearly as many self inflicted mistakes as Michigan did.
Those mental errors is what kept Bama in the game!
Tim Hasselbeck needs to get glasses. Inches would have been if the last play was 3 and 1/2 yards and Michigan barely stopped the play, not losing or gaining any yards. Also, ESPN should merge their football coverage with the SEC Network, this video was hot garage.
QB had no intention to follow #77. He is going straight into the line of scrimmage.
I’ll disagree that this was a walk in touchdown. The Michigan defender he was talking about would have recovered easily to make the tackle or at least hit him well before the end zone. Michigan crashed their d-line to the middle and had two edge rushers to funnel everything inside. I hate how no one is giving that Michigan defense credit for winning their one on one matchups on that play and the majority of the time during that game.
That's a bad take. Its not a bad call but the guard never touched the Linebacker, the DE #8, had good leverage, on the inside, there's no guarantee he walks in. Tim drew it up where the guard blocks the LB, he didn't. The LB ducked underneath the block and was in position to make the tackle as well. On paper its a walk in - Alabama's front got blown up all over the place on that play call
It would have been justified if it was at the 1 yard line, but they were too far from there, like they didnt have faith on Milroe to throw it.
They don’t have faith in him to throw it
I agree , if he tries to pass it n nothing is opened then he can run it
@@eveliovarela2279 they would have been better off doing a fade route to the back of the end zone, touchdown, dropped pass, or pass interference are the one of the likely outcomes
That O-line is pure trash, Mike Vick, Randle Cunningham, Lamar Jackson couldn't out run that Garbage truck juice O-line.
Put him into space to let him use his skill, crashing the line takes away all his athletic skill.
ESPN look how close this was... So basically the SEC won. 😂
It shows a hilarious amount of bias that espn is even spending time defending this. The bama o line had been getting worked all night. If michigan executed special teams this game would not have been close.
Right lol
That's the thing for me. Michigan's special teams were almost trying to give the game to Alabama and Michigan still won. That first dropped punt was probably worth at least 10 points of margin. Neither team really played like a national championship contender.
@@kmbbmj5857that was 7 points to Bama on the first muffed punt! Then the missed PAT & FG was an 11 point turnaround! If Michigan had not made just those three mental errors, it would have been a 24-13 win & OT would never have happened!
Nobody seems to notice that the Alabama TE (81) held then tackled Michigan (8)
Did Nick Saban just accuse Michigan of knowing their plays
This is a hot take, but as a Michigan fan, he’s got a point. The qb design run had been working against us all game (Baring the fumble) including earlier in that drive. It was just that we were finally ready the one time it really mattered
Not crashing into the line like that! He's not a fullback! Put him into space and let him use his talent.
Look at Alabama TE (8!) holding and then tackling Michigan 8.
AS ANNOUNCER SED IT WAS THE SNAP ISSUE THE THREW THE TIMING OFF... OUR CENTER LOST THE GAME... we've got 5 Centers in NFL ... gimmie any of em and we win natty 🏆 but Michigan was tough... kudos
Right tackle got pushed back 4 yards and his leg tripped Milroe or he woulda slid to the left untouched so with that and bad snap it looked awful
The only reason it had worked for 63 yards on 21 carries is Michigan’s mental errors! Missed tackles, muffed punt, boneheaded penalties, missed PAT, & missed FG to name a few! That muffed punt led to a Bama touchdown! If Michigan had not made that mistake, missed PAT & field goal, 24-13 game! MICHIGAN KEPT BAMA IN THE GAME! A true Michigan & football fan would know that! Go Blue!
Love this conversation very great analysis
CFP: This Alabama team is worth breaking all historical precedent to allow into the playoffs over a team that had a better record Alabama: *this play*
I’m not convinced Milroe would have gotten past Saintistil on the last play.
Jalen want to talk 😂😂😂 dude knew he was about to get trolled online
Sad day for ESPNSEC huh???
What is he talking about? He literally ran straightforward didn’t even attempt to make a move in any other direction. The guard pulling was misdirection.
The no call on the late hit on McCarthy out of bounds was complete bs. Refs showing some bias
The center for Alabama had the worst case of yipps I ever saw. He will be in the portal 😢 Go Blue!!!!
Near the end of the game I said he must've had money on Michigan
He's a senior, his career is done. lol
Yep! He is in the portal today
guys awful.
This aged well
I think he actually tripped over the falling No.65. Michigan simply overpowered the Alabama line.
Him defending that horrible play call by Alabama is just hilarious
ESPN/SEC for you
So what would you have run?...a drop back pass with a QB that got sacked 7 times in the game?...I mean seriously....
Tbh In Bama’s defense, the qb design run was working all game baring the forced fumble up until that point. So it wasn’t a bad idea, we were just ready that time
@alscompleteoutdoor9091 an RPO 100%. A QB run several years from the endzone is unbelievable... a QB run can be very successful in open field but when the entire team is literally guarding the goal line... no
@@alscompleteoutdoor9091l would've called a play that allowed the qb to run it, pitch it, or throw it depending on how the defense reacted. The play called was all or nothing, and a run up the gut was so one dimensional, why have all these good athletes out on the field? But glad they called it!!! 😂
I think this is a bad take. Who cares how close it was to working. It failed and ended their season. It was a bad play call by Tommy Rees.
Yeah that guy got blown back and the snap was low, but along with that the pulling lineman didnt touch either the olb or middle to create a larger hole
Wrong on a walk in touchdown. Number 77 on Alabama missed his block on Michigans corner. There was no place to go for Milro.
Someone gave Stewart some love on that play! Finally!
It was the greatest play ever. Go Blue.
That soundtrack music gets you hyped up. Anyone know the song?
He tripped clean over his own tackle on top of it being a low snap
This is great
And everybody was trying to say the only way Michigan wins is if they play their best game.... Anybody fan or not knows that wasn't the case and still was able to control pretty much the whole game Go Blue 💙 now let's bring home the hardware we came for
Neither team played their best, and being down 20 - 13 with 2:50 to play isn't "control of the game". The Nat'l Championship game should be a......BARN BURNER.......to quote the great Keith Jackson. Is there a way to AI Keith Jackson's voice/call into the game broadcast?
Lol nope u don't... u won congrats but u got out rushed minus our Center we had ya but kudos u won based on good QB play and #2....
Yes loseing by 7 with two minutes left and probably would have been more than 7 if not for the two terrible snaps to push Bama out of Michigan territory after Bama was ripping off 10 to 12 yards a run the previous 3 plays does not add up to in CONTROL !! Congrats to Michigan , they were the better team at the end of tge game but let’s be real and not sound ignorant
@@MaudeWhite-yc6jiWTF are you talking about? Michigan kept Bama in the game with mental errors! Muffed punt on the first Bama punt of the game set Bama up great for that TD! Missed PAT & Field Goal by Michigan due to mental errors! You take that 11 point swing on those three errors alone & Michigan would have won 24-13!
@@carlfrye1566why was they down genius? The answer is MENTAL ERRORS! Give you three that was an 11 point swing! Bama’s first punt of the game & Michigan muffs it giving Bama excellent field position for their first TD! Missed PAT & FG by Michigan! That would have had Michigan up 24-13!
Shotgun, basically 10 yds out on a 4th and goal. At least with pass you have options or chance of flag. But respect to UM, they took game after Alabama had it in hand.
Didn't look "close" to me. That was a wall of Michigan D. Horrible play call.
The difference with that QB running that play compared to the other successful times in the game was that the defense blew up the entire line this time. They had a defender on either side that had him if he bounced out, the WRs were covered tight, and the RB in motion which was probably his only option was covered. The real problem was that the QB is one sided, at least in that game anyway, and it was predictable to even the average fan let alone a defense coordinator. So let's stop blaming one play on an Alabama loss and also realize that Michigan's top defense kept them in the game. Alabama was gifted field position on the first TD and so many mistakes were made on individual plays for Mich throughought the game. These are just young men playing a game, time to move on.
Michigan spanked Bama from the jump, special teams tryta save em but they can’t even snap the ball in Tuscaloosa
If Michigan doesn’t make the special team mistakes they made this game never goes to overtime. Michigan looked like the much better team and Milroe and the Alabama team clearly were overrated.
Yep I am a Bama fan and shocked they even made it this far. Bad OL and QB who can't pass.
@@CareySullivan-cu3fw yes bama’s oline was brutal and milroe was just as bad. It didn’t stop there though. Michigans oline all year as been hit and miss and with the loss of their best offensive lineman I thought they were gonna be in trouble. Michigans oline looked mostly solid which leads me to believe bamas dline wasn’t even that strong. Bamas defense was lucky to have turner.
Is that why Michigan needed 4th down deep in their own end to tie the game?
@@neverevenheardofit Like he just said. It was because special teams kept messing up. Punt returner lost the ball twice, and our kicker missed a field goal and the place kicker missed setting the ball up right. All those mistakes cost us points which is why we were losing.
@@neverevenheardofit no argument the game was close based on score, but Michigan was clearly the better more experienced team on the field, especially defensively. The game should never have had to go to over time. For all the hype that “Michigan ain’t seen a team like Bama” and “Bama built different” that Bama fans regurgitated I just didn’t see it.
He is correct if Milroe adjusts his run an inch or two wider to the left, he stays straight behind not on the hip coz #9 has an angle of getting him, it was a good call but the QB was too rigid on his run even with a bad snap & blown tackle imo.
I don’t see it at all on the last play. He was just running straight into a pile of guys and that was supposed to work?
I’ve rewatched this 10 times at no times do I see him walking in
lol, "he would have walked in" yeah, had everything went exactly like its drawn up and Michigan wasn't living in the backfield.
He would've walked in if the d line dropped back into coverage 😂
Washington's defense isn't ready for Michigan's running game. Those 9 min drives are the reason Michigan wins!
And Michigan hasn’t played an offense like Washington
Michigan is the best defense Huskies has faced this yr..Dline is going to eat!
@@mrgetitdone85 Washington isn't ready for a D-Line like Michigan's. Alabama's 350lb linemen gave up the most sacks a Saban team ever has. (None of the sacks were a result of low snaps btw)
@@martin42382I am a Michigan fantastic & I am not saying crap about the game until it played! We have not faced a QB like Michael this year! The Ducks had his number & he still beat them twice!
Good play call. Just didn’t work out
After the low snap, Milroe could have cut back to his right or he could have thrown the ball to # 5 Roydell Williams, who could have gotten to the edge and scored.
True. But that center gave dude way too many bad snaps in my opinion🤷🏿
“The fact that it didn’t work, made it a bad call…” - Modern coaching legend folks
He’s talking right to Tommy Rees.
No if was not…he should have been in an RPO play to have options
Good play. Low snap. Need a better center bama
Go Blue!!
''Run into the pile on 1" Brilliant.
The last play, there wasn't inches for a walk-in TD. The middle of the hash marks was too congested. The 300 lb linemen (2) & even if Milroe is right behind them, Milroe & more importantly, the ball never breaks the plane of the goal line. That's the thing about humans, they tale up space and if both Bama linemen aren't in the endzone, Milroe has wait for those 2 players to clear the area. And with that time, Michigan's defense collapsed behind them and Milroe was at least 2 yards short of scoring on the play. It wasn't even close really. From the 3 at best he gets to the 2 yard line trying to push that congestion into a score. The Bama linemen walked into the endzone, Michigan's defense collapsed the middle behind those Bama OL. They can go anywhere on the field, they don't have the ball. It was like holiday traffic backed up on an interstate, gridlock for Milroe, he couldn't even push his own players into the end zone. Michigan had already collapsed & wrapped up the QB. It was a poor play call. Now had it been the Philly "Tush-Push" or "Brotherly Shove", that call stands a chance, not in shot gun formation. Bama would've had to create space in the center of the line as more of a pass play & QB keeper.
Issue wasn't the playcall at all. All the credit goes to Michigan's d-line. Milroe had burned Michigan more than once running the ball, whether on a qb draw or busted pass play. Michigan had largely shut down both the passing and run game from Alabama. Milroe running the ball was one of the few reliable parts of Alabama's offense during the game. Even with the low snap, had Alabama's o-line done what they needed to do, we would have seen a second OT. Michigan's defensive line came through and clutched up when they needed to.
It makes more sense when you see it that way. Of course, the low snap didn't help. And give UM's "no-name" dl credit. In retrospect, it was good that Michigan struggled so much in this game. I think it was a wake-up call because of the self-inflicted wounds. If they had cruised to an easy victory, they might not have done so well against Washington.
They really wasn't bias, All this talk about what Alabama didn't do! Instead of Complimenting Michigan for what they did, we know who you guys wanted to really win! #Detroit
U😂🫵🏿
Anywhere else on the field it was a decent play for the first down. Near the goal line the play is a disaster.
It's why you play the game and not just analyse plays.
If Michigan doesn’t miss that extra point they win the game in regulation. The way better team won Michigan, Michigan 38, Washington 27 go blue.
9:02 he had no chance of getting in😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The Michigan radio announcers were calling the last play as a quarterback sneak. If they knen, then who didn't?
I agree....it was a perfect play....ended just the way I like it... Alabama suckin it!! Fantastic play call!!
Alabama offensive line. Reminds me of the Colorado buffalos 🦬 weak as water 💦. Melroe was running for his life. Just like sheduer.Saban better tap the transfer portal just like prime. Good win Corum/ McCarthy/ Michigan defense. Good luck 🍀 in the championship game. Because you’re playing a much better Quarterback/Penix/ and offense.
I wouldn't have called that play either, but it was the total lack of execution more than the play call..
Hasselbeck is wrong about the position of #0 Sainristil on Bama's last play -- his looping angle left him enough leverage if Milroe had cut left to follow the pulling guard, and he is Michigan's best open-field tackler.
Greatest game ive ever seen. These highlights dont do it justice. HIGH LEVEL FOOTBALL. Coaches playing master chess, adjusting to each other. Players leaving it all out on the field without the corruption of the nfl.
I get what you’re saying but that isn’t what Milroe actually did. He went to far to the center when he was supposed to go further left.
I want Michigan to win it all jus because of how they tried to play coach
You don’t “finish” (Saban’s favorite word) and put a game away by scoring 0 points in the Fourth Qtr. OT should have never been a factor. Plus I disagree with deferring in OT - setting yourself up to have to play from behind only increases the pressure and risks the whole game coming down to executing 1 play, which is exactly what happened. Tommy Reece called a lousy game overall.
Yes snap loses half a step, but Milroe also closed his eyes. Would have been much closer if he followed the puller to the left
Had the right tackle not been blown up sideways into the QB he would most likely would have scored, there was only one tackler on the left side and Milroe outweighed him by 30 lbs.
I like Hasselbeck, but I believe my eyes more than what he's saying. There was NO WAY Milroe was going to get to the goaline.
Michigan has always prided itself on defense. Against any other team bama prolly woulda scored that last play.Great effort by both teams coulda gone either way. Michigan had some slip ups and still got it. ROse bowl and national champs go blue...
Michigan is simply a far more talented team.
Legacy drive in OT!!! #ConqueringHeroes
Just wasn’t Good enough P.S. Grand Rapids,MI
Just don’t see why it wasn’t a RPO the motion man is open 🤦🏾♂️
I think Alabama wanted to keep the ball in their best players hands. I think an RPO would have been a good choice but I don't hate the QB power with that motion designed to draw a defender away. The play was actually blocked fairly well but #5 on Michigan was able to drive the right OT back into the play and Milroe tripped on his legs. I don't think a Michigan player actually touched Milroe on the play.
He was two yards short of the goal line tim, there's no other way to explain it.
I don't know about inches away but he's not totally wrong. The RT is what makes this play wierd. He got blown up and the QB was dead in the water
Wait. What? Milroe never even looked to his left much less made any attempt to go left. He was always going to straight up the middle, and he was always going to get stuffed.
Yes, lets be honest....Alabama almost won with 6 sacks ....and Michigan playing their best game of the year.
I don’t watch college football that often but Michigans special teams stunk . Missed snap on extra point , missed field goal attempt, fumbled kickoff return , and fumbled punt return near goal line . You call that playing their best game of the year ? You must play with yourself.
It's still a bad call because it relied on perfect execution for it to work.
Its last play was terrible. They could have called a pass play and left Milroe with the option to be Vince Young or Matt Leinart. Bama's oline was stagnated all game, no real push at all.
They rushed for more yards than Michigan did. Averaged 4 yards per carry
They got beat at the line of scrimmage
@@j.akelly9775a lot of that was cause of Millie scrambling and one long run.
@@timdepaulis2487 Milroe was not the leading rusher. Jace and Haynes both averaged over 7yds per carry. We shouldn’t have went away from it.
@@j.akelly9775 Milroe ran for 63 yards and another 34 yards on the big run. That’s almost 100 yards more than half of your rushing yards came from the QB and one big play. Just like I said. Thank you, Tim. These couch coordinators were calling it a QB draw 😂😂
It wasn’t that close Hasselbeck. How much money did you lose on this game?😂😂😂
