I came across a very unusual, but very interesting, woodworking design online and I wanted to see if I could replicate the results. Not only did I manage to figure out how it's done, but I ended up making some pretty stunning pieces myself. Take a look at this video to see how you can use the weaving technique to really add some interest and an artistic flare to some of your woodworking!
• Berkeley Works: Robert...
Roberto Gastelumendi has been using this technique since the 1990's. I wonder how far back it goes! :)

" My gut has a subtle curve, and my wife still likes me!" LOL :D You sir are a master at slipping in the jokes! Beautiful work on the cutting boards!
Thank you kindly
Such a fun interesting technique, love how they came out!
@@FishersShop This was the line that made me subscribe.
That line got me to sub
Masterful Artist of wood and humor!
"I got really drunk and drew a perfectly straight line" 😂🤣 That comment alone earned a Sub & Bell notification
Hehehe. That's exactly what I did too.
I agree. If only it wasn't followed with 'Then I headed over to the bandsaw.'
Mine was at the end when he said if you subscribe he might send a complimentary batch of homemade granola.
I have watched hundreds of wood working vids... And this is by far my favorite so far. The work is amazing, the narration is strangely soothing, and has that high school shop class tutorial feel... So nostalgic... You are truly the Bob Ross of wood working... 👏👏👏
Glad you enjoyed it!
Those bloopers weren't mistakes, they were happy little accidents. Bob Ross.
@@craigshrimpton5765 Except for safety issues, woodworkers don't make mistakes, they just change the design. :-)
wayched 100s myself , its bout time i got stuck into making something , this one looks a lot les fuss than endgrain boards
The weaved design would make an excellent top for a custom guitar.
The thing I appreciated the most was your unique style of humour making a project fun! Mankind is often discouraged from doing things out of their comfort zone, like myself, and when I hear some different blends of funny bits I feel like trying the project. Thank you for making this video fun!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ha ha. “Annual visit to the gym...” Another great video! Both boards are just stunning! I love that subtle curve you cut in the end. Really nice touch!
Thanks so much!
The removal of clamps with sound effects was priceless. Lol
Good stuff! Tis a good man who can laugh at himself too...loved the outtakes 😄
Thanks, David
Yet again a video where I thought "Meh.... not too interesting, but it's Drew so let's just watch it". And yet again I am really glad I did. I thourghly enjoyed watching every little second. That's why Fisher's Shop is my favorite channel. Very good stuff, Drew! Greetings from Germany, Daniel
Danke!
The best thing about these videos is that you learn so many small but very useful tricks. How to plane a board that is uneven on both sides for example. Stick it on an even board! Never thought of that, genius! I was too busy watching your tools till I got to the end, and went, wow! How'd he do that? Spectacular artistry!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ha! That was the best woodworking commentary I've ever heard. Round like MY belly too, buddy!
Glad you enjoyed it
Something special for someone special! Waoooo
Very creative and beautiful!
This would make a superb guitar top. I think I will give it a try one day.
Great idea! Would like to see how it turns out!
You refer to your self as I do when I goof up 😊
This is the second time I watched this video. It's still very good and I like it a lot.
It gets even better once you've watched it 100 times
LOVE this technique!!! Please do more wood weaving, it's beautiful.
Those boards are absolutely amazing. Well done!
It's like a rockler ad from 2002. pure magic
Awww, you're no Dumbo! What a great video. Thanks for your humor and thanks for your tips. I intend on trying this when I get back home. Gonna need to make me one of those fancy strip jigs though :)
Thanks, Brenda
Came for the woodworking, subscribed for the commentary 😂 thank you 🙏🏼
Welcome!
These turned out really neat!!!
It is my dream to one day have a workshop like this
Nothing is so perfect as that which is imperfect. Beautiful
Thanks
I like what you've achieved so much (and I like your delivery style), that I have watched the whole thing, without skipping, more than once.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks
Amazing! Beautiful! I just glued up my first cutting board yesterday. Can't wait to see how it turns out!
You have good way of putting in your sponsor in a natural and unobtrusive way. You're pretty funny and make a wonderful product. I'm gonna go check out your other videos
Thank you so much!
Love the dry humor - especially how it was necessary to get drunk to draw the curves JK. Fantastic job on the boards and thanks for sharing the video and technique.
You bet, thanks for watching!
I use my woodworking as my "sanity sawdust". I have a full time job and it's projects like this in my woodshop that keeps me alive. Thanks for a great video!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Aah.. The 'sawdust snuff'...The problem is 'This' becomes full time and your present 'full time' will become a burden😂!
So stunning! and that sense of humor! I hope someday I can make something like this!
The center curved wave cutting board is definitely my favorite.
BRILLIANT JUST BRILLIANT
That was well done. I am going to incorporate that into my next canoe paddle project.
These are absolutely gorgeous. I can see using this to make a really nice table and chairs set, would make an awesome dinning table.
Your dry, casual delivery of the jokes is perfect!! you had me laughing.
Very nice sir! Good job and thank you for the blooper reel.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I don't do wookworking myself, but it's the comments like "Then i got really drunk, and i drew a perfectly straight line" that makes this content perfect. Thank you for making me laugh
Haha! Glad you liked it
@@FishersShop but, do you know what is really funny? Taking the clamps out of the glued pieces of wood. Great work. Very inspiring.
@@FishersShop That's the exact moment I subscribed.
Wait...so you're saying that wasn't a straight line?! Ima have to cut back on the sauce then! :o
@@Ericththeginger SAME LOL
Love the use of the thin strips, they really make it look beautiful, excellent job....
So! Many! Clamps!
Right?! Haha
very interesting -well produced -great photography too
Glad you enjoyed it
Brother, those are amazing boards. So creative, and looks like something I could do! Thanks for sharing!
When I took woodshop in high school, I was shown how to ‘weave’ wood to put onto a leathe to turn a bowl. Said bowl won First place in art show competition. Great show, Drew!!
Great Rockler advert! The cutting boards are really nice
Thanks!
Love the outtakes! Of course the whole video too :)
Glad you enjoyed!
this was absolutely one of the most genius videos on wood craftsmanship I have watched - and I have watched a LOT of them!
came for the woodworking, stayed for the dad jokes.
I came for dad jokes, stayed for woodworking
Awesome! Didn’t know a unique cutting board technique would introduce me to another entertaining Channel to Subscribe to. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That would be a beautiful guitar back, you’ve given me some ideas.
Go for it!
Brilliant, have already copied this idea and works well, really transforms a piece. Keep them coming!
That was great. I am about to make my daughter a "ladies writing desk" and I will make the top with this technique now. thanks for the share.
Subscribed for the clamp dumps.😆
Clamp dumps... haha, I like it
This guys sense of humour kills me 😆 Super creative though! Love the boards!
You sir explain just enough detail I can follow along but not so much I'm bored. Great teaching, I look forward to making one of these myself!
Thank you very much!
I love making cutting boards and this is definitely one that I have to make!
Go for it!
Thanks for showing the outtakes at the end. I thought I was the only one that had issues like those.
Lovely final product.
Good to see the outtake!! I’m new to woodworking and feel so defeated seeing only perfect works online as I make mistakes ALL THE TIME
Amazing idea!
you're humor is awesome!! XD "then i got drunk and drew a perfectly straight line"
Completely awesome! I will be attempting one of these for a friend as a wedding gift. Wish me luck and thank you so much for taking the time to share this technique
Have fun!
The dry humor had me laughing. So beautiful I’d hate to cut anything on them. ;-)
That's what I was thinking. Too pretty to use. lol A REAL work of art.
A man after my own heart. Just goes to show, a little "spirit" can solve anything.
Actually looks awesome and I may do this for my outdoor chairs arms it would look amazing and pay me extra and we love that lol
I appreciated the blooper reel. Very beautiful pieces.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very cool project, but what really caught my eye was that swiveling sanding station, pretty nifty!
9:02 Coolest, most tricked-out workshop space-saver ever! You've got great(!) skills and even greater vision...cheers on your very, very nice work.
Nobody with a shop of any kind saw that flip and didn't go "Woaaaahhhh.... PLAY IT AGAIN!"
Loved this, humour and beauty.
And the cutting boards look good too!
Absolutely gorgeous! And you are so funny! Don't know if I could ever cut anything on these, I'd rather hang them up and just admire them! Thank you!
Thanks! :)
Outstanding. One of the most creative things I've seen in the last several years. Just beautiful .Well done!
Thank you! 😊
I love your boards. What great ideas some people have.
Thanks so much! 😊
It seems nice when things come together.
This is cool. I'm shocked at how many talented carpenters are left-handed here on KZhead.
I saw one of these on instagram and couldn't wrap my head around how the person did it, glad I stumbled across your video.
Glad I could help!
Not only was that masterfully done, it was frickin' hilarious! My favorite line: "My gut has a subtle curve, and my wife still likes me, so I figured she'd like this too."
100% had me laughing
Your humor is awesome! Nice boards too!
Thank you kindly!
I think this is the first of your videos I've watched. I love them. So much better than the granola I stole from your neighbors last week.
What a fantastic idea! Those boards are gorgeous! One thing that made me tighten my sphincter: the routing. You really don't want to route off more than 1/8" at a time or you run the risk of getting some nasty tear-out and/or the board getting chucked across the room. :)
Brilliant and nicely done. Those came out absolutely beautiful.
Thank you very much!
This would make very amazing chair seats...
It took me awhile to realize you were funny but once I did I couldn't stop laughing.
:)
Brilliant, awesome shape, love it very much. Accidently my wife has seen it, "she want the same". Thank You for sharing!
Awesome project!!! I got a lot of ideas. My particular favorite moments were when you took the clamps off and piled them on the bench in high speed. Good twist!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful piece of work. They look so good you almost don’t want to cut on them. Definite conversation pieces.
Thank you!
Damn I love it. I was wondering how those were made. Thanks 👍
Thank you for showing the mistake clips at the end. As a beginning woodworker, it can be overwhelming seeing pros giving great advice and creating amazing pieces. It’s encouraging to see someone with experience making the same mistakes I do.
Glad it was helpful!
I like em both but the one with the curves in the middle is really nice.
I'm not sure what's better... the finished product, our your voiceover! Nice work!
Haha hope the next door neighbour enjoyed his breakfast 😂😂 great video, really nice boards 🙏
Thank you 😁
Nice technique....I’ve seen another similar one made but yours is easier and has more variety. I especially like the sounds as you remove the clamps and ‘throw’ them down. 😊
I like it when someone does something DIFFERENT. Even with the outtakes 🤣. It helps to know/see that it’s not just smooth sailing 👍🏼
Love your sense of humor. Absolutely necessary to creation of anything, and especially wood stuff!
Thanks so much
Beautiful work. You made me laugh with those clamps. Too funny.
Love how you draw a pencil line and then don’t use it when sawing. Great vid
You have to remember that he was drunk while he drew that straight line so it's more like a guideline instead of strict rule anyway.
"Then I got real drunk and drew a perfectly straight line" - You just earned a subscription from me my good man! B)
Bro this thing is CRAZY looking. Great job 👍
Thanks 👍
@@FishersShop I'm glad I found your channel, new sub right here 🤘
I love the commentary on this video! Haha, bravo.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Could you imagine having a handmade floor like that? Simply gorgeous
I was thinking that idea would work for a guitar myself. Even if you just made a simple cigar box guitar or if you decide to go all out and make a full sized electric guitar..
I showed a pic of your board to my daughter-in-law. She said “YES!!!, I love it!!,” Hope mine will look as good as yours. Really enjoy your content and have learned a lot from you. Thanks!
You will try to make one? I admire even the will to try.. I could propably just make something that looked like a cheap copy with my fingerspitzgefühl....
Best deadpan jokes ever 😂
It is nice too see you are able to show the mistakes and not just show some high quality vid perfectly put together . Great job on the boards too.
Thank you very much!
